okay.....my fortress was going well. I just got attacked by something like 200 undead elf and human body parts. I sent in my military (consisting of hastily conscripted peasants!) and was able to get rid of most of the zombies and necromancers (I didn't even realise I had a necromancer tower near me). Next minute I look at the units page and there are another hundred or so undead! And to top it off, Pictham Kopohrakbin the werechameleon has arrived. It's fat and is crazed for blood. !!FUN!!
Edit: And even amongst all the blood, violence, mutilated corpses, flying dog paws and tantrumming children, people are still popping out babies....
Oh my, sounds like fun! Might be time to wall off a few survivors and hope everything goes away.
Meanwhile in Oilpalm, well, having no metals in the area I gave a big pile of 2nd hand clothing (thankyou, honoured dead!) to the traders in exchange for various weaponry. It hasn't helped too much... The endless swarms of troglodytes continue. It's hard to focus on getting a barracks built and industries started when the ugly things keep swarming up to cause trouble.
I think it's time to just abandon the caverns all together.
Edit: Oh gods! My dwarves had
finally managed to kill all but one of the fuckers, and were just about to finish off the one remaining, when
right before my eyes I see more of them running into the cavern from the map's edge.
A whole herd of them. This probably won't end well, I have two combat-ready dwarves down there.
Editedit: Well, another wave of troglodytes have been beaten off, but at what cost? We lost two dwarves in the fighting, and another is badly injured. We have no trained doctors, how long will we be able to keep this up?
(In my units list there are now 75 dead troglodytes. This is what, my second year at this fort?
It seems like more, though.)
The aftermath of the latest skirmish.
The baby there is being carried, by a dwarven lady who is apparently paying her last respects to her friend Alath, a poorly-armed swordsdwarf who fell in the struggle.
At least she is still happy, due to creating an artifact, but still, that seems like a rather sombre moment.
