The Bronzemark has finally struck candy, hail the miners! Also, a magma sea on the same level, which is like 140 levels down from the surface.

I've been lucky, since the initial shaft I sunk basically missed the bottom two caverns and didn't open right into the hot stuff either. I need to check if I have enough room beside the stairs to build a huge pump stack up to the surface without opening up the caverns, which will take some doing and also require learning about building and powering pumps.

Some exploratory mining around the edges of what I believe to be the top of the candy spire enabled me to peel off a few layers, so I'll go up and down a few levels to see what's knocking around, and begin manufacturing shiny power armour for my military. Well, my champion speardorf first, because she is my favourite, and then I'll see if I have enough of the shiny to arm and equip my legendary axedorfs and swordsdorfs.

So half a sock hit him in the pelvis and bruised him? Blimey, it must be so encrusted with grime that it must've been as hard as rock.
After being on a dorf foot for a great length of time, {how long does it take to wear out a sock?}, I'm sure it is encased in a pong so strong that the sock did not physically hit Morul Tomemkulet, but he was hit by the shock-wave of approaching stench.

Got a Child Concubine migrant (masterwork) so instead of letting it be creepy everywhere I ordered it butchered (because that's much less wierd) and threw it's bones skin and organs into fire pit to dispose of any trace of this creepy creepy event. She rose and now there's an un-slabable ghostly underage concubine skulking around the fort.

Nothing remains, of course once it's been ground up meat is meat and bones are bones so it's possible she was partly cremated partly made into delicious sausage and partly used as construction materials for the parapet. Wonder why she's so mad?

Unicorn fell unconcious on a weapon trap full of flails. Every time it wakes up it's savagely beaten and falls unconscious before it can move. It's funny and sad.

Okay, I'm getting the "Needs distillable item" thing.  My fortress is thirsty, the water is frozen, what can I do to fix this?

I caught a necromancer. I'm setting up a room where I dump him into a tiny room with fortifications that look into a larger room that will be filled with corpses. He raises all the corpses and I open the hatch above them and let them onto the surface world to rip apart goblins/elves/chinchillas etc.

I struck -HFS-. No military and exactly 2 traps, which are useless here anyway. My computer actually crashed and deleted my progress, but it was over anyway.

This happened a few fortresses back, but I digress...

The fortress was going quite well, numbers skyrocketing, migrants still flooding because of low death rate, etc, but eventually a cyclops came, and it was in a bad mood. For one, it's only eyelid was gone, as if somebody was cruel enough that in their dying breaths, they didn't kill the cyclops as it was attacking them, but instead ripped its eyelid off to leave it in an eternal state of never blinking. Ever been in a staring contest? Imagine that, but you cant leave it. Forever. The cyclops, already in a bad mood due to never blinking and all that, proceeded to rush in and beat some animals to death. Once it got bored of that and the rest of the animals got inside, there was still one dwarf faffing about outside. In a fit of pure hatred, the cyclops ran up to the dwarf and beat him to death with his own pants.

Later that same year, I opened the HFS out of boredom and killed everyone.

next summer after getting little fortress under control, the the migriants show up all 49 of them I only had 19 in entire fort prior. 25 of the migriants are children and then 2 babies were born.
my little fort is built on ground floor of a necro tower, as the migriants are highly useless fishers and spinners I may decide to finally clear the rest of the tower out and solve the new housing problem.

A vile force of darkness has arrived!

Sweet, time to test my zombie trap! EVERYONE INSIDE! a squad of bowmen... With no leader? Oh well.

That's right... Just a little bit closer...

The dead walk. Hide while you still can!

Wait, what? Christ, will I ever get to test my zombie trap? 100 zombies, 3 necromancers. Towers are great bottomless pits of Fun.

EDIT: One of the necromancers is a cave fish man!

In the Bronzemark, it is officially the Year of Beasts.

First, a Tundra Titan. Since it could fly, it bypassed all my defenses to land right in front of my main entrance (which is generally proof against ground-based attacks), where it proceeded to get tangled up with the black bear I keep there and managed to somehow break its ear. While it was busy trying to hit the bear, who has been knocking around for years keeping thieves and such out of my fort, the military geared up, attacked, broke all six of its legs, both its wings and then killed it.

As my dorfs become more skilled in the martial arts, I swear they get more and more sadistic. I've had legendary axedorfs cut all the limbs of enemies before going for the head and similar. Admittedly, the speardorfs will attempt to break a leg or something to get an enemy on the ground before going for the head, so that doesn't count.

Next, a giant flying leech forgotten beast lurking around in the caverns. I thought my main shaft was safe, but apparently it ain't. I manged to get in, sucked all the blood out of a junior diagnoser who was hauling candy, and was then killed by the squad I stationed at the top of the shaft for just such an ocassion. They did lose one guy, but they're all disposable anyway.

Then, another forgotten beast. I didn't pay too much attention to this one, since I knew it couldn't get in. But what it did was, was stand itself within range of the fortifications in the level between my tree farm and what is currently the bottom level of the fort, and wait, causing a huge pile-up as dorfs wanting a drink came up the stairs, took a look at the hideous thing, and legged it back down.
I sent marksdorfs to kill it from safety, but since it apparently had no blood, it took an awful long time.

A minotaur came. It got its legs broke by a trap and was then finished off quite quickly.
An ettin came. A legendary swordsdorf chopped it into mince.

My favourite, however, was a cyclops. It appeared and loitered around a bit before deciding to attack.
The Siegebreakers, led by Champion Monom something-or-other (my favourite dwarf), were dispatched to take it out. Monom, being the most agile of the squad, easily outpaced the others. On the way to the cyclops she discovered a kobold thief, likely trying to take advantage of the confusion.
Without changing trajectory, or speed, she pretty much ran straight through the little bugger, leaving kobold chunks in her wake. He pretty much exploded.
And then she killed the cyclops single-handedly as well, not that she had a choice since she has only got the one.

Right now I have 5 kennels running full time collecting small animals to toss into my pit.
And there is about 20 some small creatures sitting in there with 8 cave dragons that I got from a siege
I'm also hoping to find a female cave dragon to test if they could mate.. But I won't know till then.

Other then that there was a undead siege that I just finished cleaning up, Another 30 some things stuck in cages.
And the rest were quickly dispatched by my troops.

I just finished my elite squad of soldiers, Armed with masterwork Addy and iron items(Hammers and a xbow) The rest are battleaxemen and swords. They are all migrants with a legendary military skill.. Im not sure why I have 10 with random skills. I thought the king comes with 4.. But he never came.. But I am not complaining.
