There was a fortress, but I breached that too, had a look around and sealed it over.

Did you set demon types to 0 in worldgen? That would prevent any sort of creatures spawning in the HFS. Well, other than possibly the zombies in the clown car.

I did not. It was a standard worldgen in 34.08. I did get the zombies in the fort though.

So much gold! I'm not quite sure what to do with it all. I might make a gold tower, or a gold aquaduct.

Why not both?

Well my raven breeding program flopped spectacularly. All the males killed eachother and the raven that was nestiing got yanked out of it's box to be retrained. No point in keeping the stupid eggs now unless the elves bring us a male raven ext year. And I sincerly hope the bring us a male giant jaguar.

Between the farms and a few recently butured animals and fish, the settlement has a good food supply. I expect to be awarded baronhood and already seleected my barron, built him a small manor above the entreance, and even gave him a winidowed office overlooking the small apartment building and bridge across the stream. The soldiers continue to drill diligently, and the rangers took some time to cap a couple carp in the river for practice. managed to kill three out of a fuckload.

First fort in 34.11 after several months away from the game. I forgot that dwarves will rob a caravan when you create a hospital and they're missing some of the desired supplies. Actually, I DO have cloth, but some moronic hauler kept grabbing the cloth bin and running to the farmer's workshop where the processing of more pig tail was underway, so the other haulers thought we had none. They stampeded the elven caravan instead and grabbed absolutely every piece of cloth they could get their grubby little hands on and crammed magnitudes more cloth into the hospital than I had allotted for it.  ::)

I never rob caravans, so I feel guilty now. Gotta remember to give 'em a bit profit next year to make up for this. Also, I do wish dwarves would stop overstacking the hospital so much.

Beside that, I really need to kickstart my militia and tighten the defenses of the temporary surface entrance, as goblins will likely show up Soon(TM). So much to do! I rather like the hectic early game, except for having to wade through huge migrant waves.

Sweet, I just started 34.11 too. Haven't noticed the hospital supply bug yet, as I only build hospitals when I have the materials ready.

I've got a test fort so I could upload a bugreport save for the "Dwarf Blocking Wall Construction" bug.
Hehehe, Dwarves with wheelbarrows are awesome :)
And I'm already addicted to the "menus now stretch and fill the whole screen" feature.

I can't wait...

Both of the ones who stole the 'barrows were "gigantic". Dwarf sized, intelligent birds? Holy shit, forbid the doors and hide the children!

On a side note, I was just "invaded" by 4 experienced warriors AKA a useful batch of migrants.

edit: Birds are up 4-0, time for action.

Well, my low population fort is having setbacks. Some goblins killed two dwarves, and family started tantruming. Among the tantrums was a dwarven child that smacked a legendary miner in the head, once, killing her. My butcher went melancholy, and my working population is becoming pretty mediocre. I changed my my expedition leader to one of the most well-adjusted people - a fighter wearing leather armor that has several kids. She's one of the few people that is still happy in the fort.

Anyways... my last builder was extending the roof, places it on the one spot that wasn't (yet) supported by teh wall, and drops the rock. It falls from level +1 to level -13. Freaking hole in my entire fort. I'd punish him, but damn it we're low on decent workers as is.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

^ Make it a design feature. Glass it over and claim it's a skylight.

I've just breached the first cavern layer below the Bronzemark, baracked my most experieced militia squad over the entrance and wiped out a bunch of batmen and troglodytes. Right now I'm trying to find a way to keep an eye on the dorfs gathering giant spider silk and awaiting the notification that my interpid (or insipid) silk-gathering explorers have been killed by the beastie what has left said webs all over the damn place.
I think, at some point, I will seal it off for a while and see if any interesting and/or terrifying (but tamable) creatures turn up.

My since a year walled in pump operating vampire got possessed. So I made him build each workshop after workshop, ah, he needs a leatherworks. Good that was the first in the list since it takes like forever for him to do stuff. Now I openened his wonderful living area prison and he's moving VERY slowly through the fortress gathering his stuff. This may take a while since he was at the bottom, and has to move almost up to the top.

It's time to move everything completely downstairs and abandon the upper fort. And, thinking about how to make a nice long way for the merchants to get downstairs. An octagon spiral should work fine.

Also, it's time to stop my cook and both brewers from working, more than 10k lavish meals and 15k booze is evil.
