Well my game is definitely bugged, and I'm never, ever going to get caravans ever again. I'm glad I got my metal before they left at least.

Caverns are untouched and unbreached :/

Although now I have an excuse to speed up the digging.

Just traded 4k mechanisms with the human caravan. They only got a 4☼ profit margin. My broker is a bastard.

This community fort is going to be awesome, I'm thinking.

7 FPS while excavating. Must be all the boulders falling.

Might have something to do with all the pathfinding and item tracking that's wreaking havoc on your computer. Try sealing off any areas that are useless to you, it really helps a lot.

Who needs caravans when I have corpses?

While excavating? Try designating smaller areas it's easier on the game.

I'm terraforming the mountains, unfortunately. Not a lot I can do to reduce the pathing costs, and I'm playing with SPEED:0 dwarves to get everythign done faster. This is for the succession world game, since it's apparently acceptable to take a month instead of 10 days. Or nobody even cares anymore and threw it under the rug, which seems likely. :P

I'm sure adventurers would be pleased to not have to deal with all the damn mountains. It's also good for my defensibility, as it lets me keep track of everything better. And mining for the hematite and native copper up in the hills. And mining experience.

Just not my FPS. Never ahd it go this low since I upgraded my processor.

Well if your already using Fastdwarf mining 1/4 of the mountain at a time rather than all of it at once could help significantly without much additional micromanagement.

Yeah that seems to be helping with keeping FPS up. Thanks.

"The dead walk. Hide while you still can!"

Fuck, already? It's only year 2! 49 dwarf/goblin zombies ready to kill all of us or re-die trying. There's probably a necromancer sneaking around, too. Oh well, half the cage traps outside the gate are armed so maybe we can catch some arena fodder for my soldiers.

EDIT: After catching about 10, we had to wait for a solid year as steel production sputtered and coughed until it reached "full" production (within our limit) of 2 smelter operators and 2 armorsmiths, with a blacksmith to make other items. As the first bars of steel came off the line, goblins! They're here to clean up the zombies for me... Or die trying. It's a squad of bowgoblins led by a hammergoblin. Too bad they'll probably kill the necromancer, I wanted to save that guy for later!

EDIT2: Nope, the necromancer made a break for it, hit the dirt and started sneaking then began the battle of attrition. All the goblins were in one spot. He re-raised all his zombies, they charged, got shot to bits, he raised them again, they charged, got shot to bits... This goes on for a bit until all the goblins run out of ammo. The horde then tied down random goblins and began mauling them while the rest shit themselves and ran. Now the necromancer (still sneaking) is raising all the new parts and corpses to get an even bigger army. :I

Got quite lucky with the last two moods.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now it's time to switch from copper to steel for my military.

First DF2012 fort, 'Emeraldlanterns'.  As per usual I am playing with a mostly-dead civ (no Mountainhomes, everything was conquered by elves with whom we are still at war), no active season --> no caravan or liason, and a POP_CAP of 0.  So I am save-scumming for my two migrant waves, selecting on gender ratio, as well as working on putting a basic running fort together with invasions off and avoiding the flock of giant crows upstairs that has a taste for dwarf and alpaca flesh.

The fun part will come next year when I turn invasions back on -- when I'm ready for the trashmen human caravan to come -- since I've got a tower next door as well as plenty of goblins, cutebolds, and homicidal elves about.
