Embarked an a terrifying island.

went for two years strait.
Then... a zombie whale, and a bronze colossus broke the defenses, I will now initiate my escape plan: Operation E.L.E.P.H.A.N.T (Ejecting Ludacris Escape Plan That hAs Nullified Abandonment) Basically im launching wooden minecarts into the sea as makeshift boats, the dorfs will sail away unharmed while the monsters destroy the place, waiting for results.

And that's another force of darkness  laid low thanks to crossbows. 15 of them helped rout and decimate ranks of 50+ goblins. As well as war animals and mounts. A master lasher made an appearance. It took quite a few shots being batted aside before one found its mark. Leading to the greenskin being pin-cushioned by the rest of crossbows after he was slowed down by the first hit. 1 death in return. A low skilled recruit during mop up duty. The siege was lead by a master. Who took the recruit out before beating a hasty retreat with most his army dead and his mount shot out from under him. Serves him right!

Spare copper gear is now being melted down to be made into crossbow bolts for the troops. So many spare bars and with the growing steel stocks via imports and plenty of bronze I brought on the embark in ores. Metal at least won't be an issue in the medium term.

Otherwise in the fort the grand dining hall has been completed. 3 levels with balconies carved from the heart of the mountains marble layers. All smoothed and engraved and decked with marble furniture. There hasnt been a tantrum since it was completed. Now work continues on the housing district. A bed, cabinet, coffer and room for every citizen!

The Giant Moles in the caverns of my current fort breed like crazy, even while regularly being decimated by other beasts entering them...

Errr, is that petrified wood, or wood leading to the pump-stack?
It's actually made from schist blocks.

Holy crap. some people get all the luck. I have had constqnt sieges by goblins, and my forts population is starting to go down due to the sheer volume of them. Barely any military dwarves are getting injured, but Urist McOutdoorsys are dropping like flies.

Anyway, Things are coming down, and I hope to get a decent project up. maybe try out the minecarts I've been studiously avoiding, If I can fidn a use for them.

It's a sad, sad day today in Dorfland.
Captain Rimtar Godenmosus 7th Wave, the captain of a marksdwarf squad was about to go off duty to go drink some booze after spending the entire season training his recruits, had literally just exhausted his ammo supply and dropped his quiver, when the moon had changed along with all of the were-civets.
One of the were-civets was in the stockpiles when the change happened.
W.C. 002-06 Datan 8th Wave.
The first squad at hand was considered to valuable to risk it, so I sent the sacrificial constructs in to engage the were-civet and try to save Captain Rimtar.
The sacrificial constructs were a 3 man squad of hammerdwarves, and some of the most well trained Dwarves in my fort, having been training for 3-4 years straight.

Rimtar fought off Datan for 7 pages until the first of the sacrificial constructs appeared - Captain Nil Erith Thunen. And right in front of the Captain, it happened. Rimtar got tired, and Datan bit Rimtar in the hand. Datan shook, many times, infecting Rimtar, sealing his fate.
Rimtar fought on, passing out from exhaustion over the sheer effort to stay alive. Datan aimed for the head, and making a mess of that, did something I've never seen a creature in DF ever do.

Go for the jugular.
By the time Captain Nil Erith entered the fray with his recruits in tow, Rimtar had bled out. All three armed with the best armour Silentthunders could provide, and masterwork steel warhammers, quickly immobilized and killed Datan, Nil Erith scoring the killing blow.

I was so close to having no native Dwarf die in 3 years in a row.

The RNG finally got it's payment for the metal.

As a result, all Were-creatures are no longer allowed free access of the fort. The sacrificial constructs are to be equipped with the best anti-undead weapons available, and an axedwarf tutor. The sacrificial constructs are to be given their own base of operations and two squads of retinues, a ranged and a melee squad for dealing with larger targets. Security in the stockpiles are to be increased.
The sacrificial constructs are to be given tombs away from the evil.

Anydwarf that kills other dwarves is lower than even elves.

(my ex-mayor vampire who was killed recently, suffered 200 hammer strikes (50 + 50 + 50 + 50) before dying.)

Just cleared a batman camp with two unarmed dwarfs and a speardwarf, none of them wearing armour. All survived, strangely enough.

He probably wants silk or yarn cloth.
Be sure to buy and save some of them from the caravans.
