Embark on terrifying.
Killed some undead magpies.
Got cocky and thought "eh... I can easily build a windmill for the millstone before I start turtling for good, those magpies are pushovers!"
Undead Giant Peach-faced Lovebirds arrive on the map.
Got even more cocky and laughed at the cuddly zombie parrots.
Lovebirds dive in on my 2 hammerdwarves, Jericho-Trompetes sound, 2x 'headshots'.
2 dead hammerdwarves on evil biome waiting to be ressurrected.
Utter disbelief.

Well, founded another fort, in another good/evil biome split, this time with a necro tower close by. Only copper on the map.

First year passed uneventfully.

Second year saw a necromancer siege, and it was pushed back by a goblin ambush.

Third year, I get the message "Aditha Iyathialala Diwiqueca Alu, the Goldenrod Stones of Water has come! An enormous, eyeless tick. It has lacy wings and an austere look. Its dark peach exoskeleton is warty. Beware its fire!" It seems to have melted its fat off itself.

Elven mechants got to it first, and managed to light themselves on fire, along with their stupid wood crap.

I send my military, clad in the best copper gear I can manage at it. After a few minutes of deliberating whether or not to attack (no valid reachable target) the 2 melee squads engage! Clouds of smoke and ash mar their vision, but the brave dwarves fight on to the death!

One of the original seven, a legendary swordsman, manages to fell the beast after blocking its fireballs of doom. (Unfortunately, nothing amazing happend in the combat logs, except this

)

He is now known as Led Adagezum Edtulkez, or Led Soakedhames, the Grooved Negator".

He is also on fire, along with the entire surface, and the first 3 levels of the fort. We have lost 13 dwarves, and may lose more to madness and grief.

And the slayer of the titan has succumbed to the flames, and can finally rest.

Lost two  VERY popular marksdwarves... To a berserk elf.

My small manor is now in full tantrum spiral, but I have hopes for the survival of one of the children who just doesn't seem to give a fuck.

Edit: Another child has pulled itself out of despair, seemingly from the enjoyment it gleaned from beating the stuffing out of my expedition leader.

This might be the first of my forts which is saved by the children.  :o

Double edit: Embark now stabilized with 1 dwarf remaining. I've set him to start making glass for the megaproject, I'm not letting a silly little thing like everyone dying horrible deaths stop me.

Triple edit: I looked away for a second and my fort crumbled to it's end. Time to reclaim!

I also just had a human diplomat enter from the surface, hold a meeting, then exit the map via hell.... I guess he thinks he's pretty hardass.

First fort in over a year.

Been seiged multiple times with dozens of goblins each.

Just made my very first pump-based structure: mist generator to keep my guys happy in their legendary dining hall.

I'm thinking of making EVERYONE a crossbowman next, to have a sure home defense. I'll still of course have a few squads of real fighters training up non-stop.

Operation Boatmurdered is good to go, as shown in the following pictures:

Any thoughts or improvements which I could make to the system? This is the first time I've pumped magma to the surface for siege disposal.

The Rustic RabbitHut

40) Chewing and Chewing All Spring Long
41) Tale of Two Deaths

That dwarf who lost his arm has been melancholic for a while, wandering around in the kitchen.

Otome has died of thirst
Since my garbage chute is full and broken, I haul her off to a free chamber.

Another dwarf withdraws from society, but he seems alright so far.

Kobolds
One kobold has snuck far enough to reach my barracks...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He's right next to milita, so I order its demise.
The Axedwarf grabs hold of the kobold thief by the larger copper dagger
The Axedwarf stabs the kobold thief in the chest with his large copper dagger
The kobold thief is having trouble breathing
The Axedwarf slashes the kobold thief in the head with his large copper dagger

Well, time to dump that corpse too.
The dwarf corpse made it into the chamber, but when we bring the bold-corpse the dwarf corpse rises...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We manage to close the door behind it.
And ... Having experienced dead-bolds still lockpicking my doors, I order the chamber walled up.
It's ... another zombie mess to worry about later...

But on the plus side, woe unto anyone who tries to touch my buns !!

This is what's going on right now at Dwellrampart.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this is also a sneak peek at the ridiculously awesome naturally defensible site of my fortress. When I've got it more defensible than Minas Tirith, (and DFHack is updated for the new version) there'll be stonesense screens.

I used a danger room to counter lack of steel and big, big goblin invasions. When I turned the lever and saw the results after ten seconds, I felt dirty and wrong.

Errr, is that petrified wood, or wood leading to the pump-stack?

Petrified wood is red, so I'll assume it's mudstone, siltstone or normal wood.

Wood is perfectly fine for holding back magma, i've used ice blocks for magma delivery systems, they won't melt or anything like natural ice walls will.
Of course it makes no freaking sense, but it works.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

The laws of physics can go screw when it comes to building stuff.
This game would be way less fun if it obeyed the laws of  nature to the letter.

Missive from Mostod Ishlum, {The Shame of Nuts}, 2nd year of the fortress, Early Summer:

Weaponsmith from the last migrant wave has just had a fey mood, so far has picked up lead bars and garnierite, so it looks like yet another lead weapon for the fortress to ....um.... boast about, I guess, <shrugs>.  At least it will be another Legendary Weaponsmith as a result.

{I do hope he she picks up a few more lead bars, the fotress is drowning in the stuff, and the blacksmith cannot make lead bins fast enough}
