Quick question about winter freezing - Will a submerged screwpump be destroyed, or merely encased in ice until it thaws in spring?  Just want to be sure before I start building things.

I just had a child turn into a peasant in the middle of a kidnapping attempt. Unfortunately, it didn't stop it.

Oh god. Someone should draw a comic of this. My god, that's the most hiliarous thing I read all week.

Peasantnapped?

I just had my 70+ dwarf fort torn apart by a single angry woodcutter, who after having slaughtered all of my children, became legendary, then destroyed everything. I sent several reclaim parties, to no avail, and then an adventurer, with whom I managed to bash his head with a shield. The justice comes from the fact that the adventurer was an elf.

It's not a real PARTY until the queen has a baby, picks it up, kills two goblins by punching THROUGH THE SKULL with her remaining hand, and then finishes off half a barrel of fungus wine while still nursing.

Well - as there hasn't been a single invasion or even ambush in two years now, I think I have to abandon my recent fortress.

Maybe I'll release the caged undead dwarfes or so. In fact, I have more caged undead dwarfes than living dwarfes in my fortres. May be fun.

Just drained an ocean into an aquifer.  Simply to see what'd happen.

I'm about to embark on a road connecting dwarvish mountainhomes with human towns. I found a chunk of road that passed over a river as a bridge, and I have yet to figure out what I'm going to do to/with the bridge.

Which raises a question: Do individual travelers actually walk along the road past your fort? Or are the roads there just for show?

Nope, right now they are only useful for Adventurer Mode. If I recall correctly, even the caravans might arrive on a different path.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

The falcon chicks have grown up and been domesticated. Yay! Still working on the giant keas and wrens. Protip: don't breed before you've got them decently trained. A roosting semi-wild eagle reverted and killed a chicken. A trainer was indefinitely waiting for the eagle to go to the training zone but it wouldn't because it was roosting (derp).

I also caught some mountain goats that have bred. Working on getting those tamed for extra milk/yarn.

An ambush killed about 10 dorfs and a tantrum spiral was nearly averted. I do have 4 great medical dwarfs now. I'm trying to get the military up and running but they won't equip some armor pieces for some reason.

My militia captains been thrown in prison for violating an adamantine production order, could anyone shed light as to how the game would have blamed him because he doesn't have any labours assigned
Enemies of Urist McMayor. He had to be stopped.

Every freaking time I got inspired to do something awesome and I embark on a map fitting the first announcement I get is:
"Urist McWhatever has been found dead".
This time it was the wolverine woman...

Edit:
Is there a way to make the game just migrate peasents into my fort?

The Rustic RabbitHut

37) The Day of Blood - Migrant Madoka's Point-of-View
38) The Second Ambush

My axedwarves cleared the speargoblin ambush pretty easy, so I leave the axedwarves outside for
now. I need to do hauling and dumping on the surface, and militia bisects any zombies that rise.

Moments later, a second ambush was discovered actually at the construction site.

Some laborers fall, and my lesser squad arrives and falls too. More training was needed.

But eventually an axedwarf makes it and cleans clock.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I mark two points for my axedwarves to watch while everyone gets the goblinite and corpses inside.
God, the surface is bloody.

Nefarious Soot!
Well this sux, I micromanage to get all non-militia inside. They kept roaming and later I found
out it was because they wanted to pickup a mastwork dress that I missed when forbidding. I get lucky.

All 184 dwarfs of Daggerbite nearly died of thirst... luckily I noticed a lot more flashing blue icons than normal, and realised that Team Farming were the only brewers - and they were constantly busy with farming and rolling around in the fields and crap.

I think we're back from the edge now... Think.. (hope..)

Also finally remembered how to correctly remove captured goblin arms/armour. It's only taken one death and a number of woundings to work this out properly (reclaim all/dump all/reclaim cage)
