Confimed elephants are indeed domestics to this civ. FUCK YOU ELVES AHAHAHAHA!!!

Anyway, construction has begun, with mattock in hand. Home forged mattocks mean more to the miners. :3 Anyway, depot space dug and I guess it's time to begin fiddling with minecarts. Hopefully none of the fighting animals will get hurt. Elephants are expensive to replace.

EDIT: Not even first caravan and I got a legendary jewler. My female sugar beetle got killed by a wolverine, which a wrestler beat to death. Stone pile, finished goods, currently composed only f bone items the wrestler makes and wood piles are done. Since the female died I slaughtered my male beetles and two spare roosters, which now outfit a a team of marksdorfs, who've got a barracks up and need bows and bolts. Migrants have consisted largly of wrestlers, a speardorf, and aformentioned marksdorfs. Work on mess hall has begun, and a number of pups and elephants were born.

Unfortunatly, my dwarves are sober. I'll bet the mood was caused by the jewler uncovering memories of being abused by his uncle urist.

A vile force of darkness has arrived!
" D: Oh shi... We're all gonna die, the defences are nowhere near ready at this point!"

*desperately deploy marksdwarves, axedwarves and hammerdwarves, 1 full squad each w/ no armor*

"Oh this is so going to suck..."

*goblins die, dwarves mostly don't*

"What the shit? We're still alive? :o "

Yeah, my barracks-less, unarmored militia beat the stuffing out of a bunch of pikegoblins. Thank The Great Toady One for immigrants with military skills...

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

I heard that Sus. SOme wrestlers prevented artefact theft, and I didn't even know they were wrestlers.

Making a new fort on a glacier.  No soil, no water to make mud, I have NO idea how to grow crops in this place.  There are no animals, no nothing.  No water.  I've butchered just about all my starting animals so there's actually quite a good bit of food, but the booze will run out shortly if I can't plant.

Tips?

I actually did that, and things seem much more promising.  Read about the bug related to glaciers and stone, did the tip there, I have access to non-melting building materials now.

Still need to find ways to get some farming.  Are there still caverns underneath glaciers?  There might be water, and there will be hopefully be trees and shrubs.

I'm reading Nist Akath right now.  You can guess why I'm doing this.

Dig 10z levels down, dig up ice boulders. ALOT.

Find a way to bring them down to the stone level, they melt into 1/7 puddles.

I think I read that dumping them works?  Can someone verify this?

Finally found an acceptable site for my new project.  Not as tree-filled as I'd like, but it should suffice.

I can confirm that dumping ice into a stone layer does indeed cause water to be formed.

I recall reading somewhere that collapsing an ice floor can irrigat the tiles underneath...

Elkbirds have...well they've pretty much slaughtered a few of my dwarves.  Now half ( read, about 5 ) of my fort is unhappy.

This is so much wimpier than Nist Akath.

Getting the hang of fighting off forces of darkness.  Combination of traps, a pit, and dwarves waiting in the bottom of the pit with weapons and calculating expressions.

Had a whole thing with a Forgotten Beast scaring my dwarves away from the magma forges.  My central stair case broke into the upper cavern, where a giant skinless toad with a shell waited.  Mostly I wall off the caverns to prevent the annoyance of wandering cavern denizens.  Unfortunately, the FB was sitting right below where the stair case broke out.  Wound up digging out a ledge above the FB, and riddling it with metal bolts.  So my little dorfs killed their first FB.  Wish they were half as effective in dealing with Goblins.  I think I will start colonizing the caverns.

Finished the great hall.  I need to build a tower over the shaft so it is not exposted to horrible, horrible daylight.

Killing off Badgerpeople.  They keep interrupting my fisherdwarves.

The Mountainhome Liaison has been hanging around for years now, ever since his Caravan was slaughtered.  Not sure what to do with him.
