I just started a new fort, Islanddances, which is entirely self-contained on its own little island.  I'm busy building houses for each of my starting seven right now, while also hollowing out an artificial grotto for fishing.

SIEGE!

This is possibly the biggest siege I have seen yet, and Dipgold's wealth is only 900k.

40 war jabbers, 15 pikegobs lead by a spearmaster, 15 hammergobs lead by a mace lord...

Elven caravan in the depot, just before the main entrance.

Cage traps all over.

Cage traps caught 50% of the siege, including the leaders. Marksdwarves are above the traps firing bolts down while the idiots stand around their leader. Gonna wait to send my other 2 melee out to play, since they are severely outnumbered at the moment, and only in copper armor. Not enough metal has been smelted to begin making any other armor, although the candy the miners found looks tasty.

A kid grew up in shockedtowns, and has been assigned as a farmhand and roadbuilder. Still considered under siege, so I'm guessing there's raiders about....

Somebody in a macabre mood seems to have used one of the unburied dorf bodies lying around as raw material for a legendary buckler, also featuring a roach chitin image of the founding of Fencedcorridor. Classy.

Other than that, it's pretty much Tuesday. Digging out space for workshops, actually managed to trade with the caravan despite my broker preferring "Store item in stockpile" and "Drink" over "Trade at the depot", still have the occasional dorf go insane due to mass dehydrations earlier... (The local brook freezes at winter; I did dig an underground emergency reservoir, but initially forgot to set it as water source. Duh.  :-[ )

Eagerly waiting for Dwarf Therapist to update to a 0.34.11 compatible version.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

I've caught a few naked mole dogs, trained more  war hounds, slaughtered some animals, and had a number of olm mounts disassmbeled to be fodder for the countess' skill. Bitch knows her stuff. Almost everything she decorates or makes is a masterpiece now. I'm wondering if they'll pull apart the trolls too....

Pond grabbers sitting in that same spot in the cavern lake have me considering conscripting the next three kids to grow up and handing each a quiver of bone arrows and a longbow and having them have at them.
Stupid things have made catching cavern animals difficult (I have hordes of livestock feeding the fort.)
One of the trainers got possesed (poo. possesions suck.) and I named the manager after myself after a random stint of story making me and Corai did.

I'm short on drink, but two wells solve that issue readily. Humans will drink from wells and rivers much more readily than dwarves will. I also have enough food to feed two armies of humans, and considering boreing through 2nd Company's barracks to start catching crundles for that longbow squad to practice on.

EDIT: Bugi the Vigorous Haze, Champion of the Kingdom of Symmetries and Shockedtowns, has bestowed upon her bronze halberd the name "Lastrikegu" or in the common language, "Forkbrave." This is the first time I've gotten a blue artefact. Hell, its value skyrocketed to 1000 dorfbucks just because it has a name and 30~ kills to it.

This weapon will now be passed from champion to champion, the 2nd in command of 1st Company always bearing Lastrikegu into battle.

EDIT II: The trainer finished his construct. A native gold cabinet, that has me fearing the future: "Brutalsafe the Innocent Murder." Just what in the sweet fuck is that supposed to mean!? I'm also about ready to finish up all my pending orders, wall the place up good and proper and abandon to lift the seige status and reclaim it.

My legendary clothier/leatherworker and my legendary bone carving countess seem to be having a "Who can make the most masterpieces" contest. Having my legendary cook who was once a marksman head the future longbow squad. When three unmooded kids grow up, he'll be teaching them the basics of soldiering and archy -- via live target training with pond grabbers.

I lost my fortress due to a goblin ambush right after a goblin siege.
But what happened during this siege will never be forgotten.

My preperations to finally get a bridge down were to late.
"A vile force of darkness arrived!"
Everything that seperates me from my enemies was a granite door and they brought a troll. I drafted every able dwarf in the Fortress to stand against the attack of the goblins. Mass producing wooden shields and rock short swords and getting everyone at least a minimal equipment. But even so, 30 dwarfs just 5 of them trained against 25 trained goblins and a troll...
The first onslaught was the worst. In the matter of seconds both sides had high casualities. I didnt even bothered to read the combat logs anymore. Then it was all over every dwarf lied down, dead or crippled. But we fought well 2 Goblins, one lost an arm, and the troll were left, slaughtering the injured. Then I saw something. I forgot one potash maker. He wandered around the fortress and I drafted him. Before he got to the entrance he picked up the axe of one unlucky dwarf who get kicked down the wood shaft. He runs up the stairs.
(At this Point my Playlist decided this song would fit perfectly.)
2 Hits later the goblins were dead. He stands infront of the troll and charges and actually manages to kill him with a strike that let his head fly off in an arc.

Right after the Siege I gave him the best romms I had to offer.

Lucky kobold and even luckier swordsdwarf, the damn thief uncloaked right behind my soldier and stabed his head 2 times. He fractured the soldier's skull and cut his head.

I was putting around my fortress, watching the workers run about doing what ever task is lying about.. Then suddenly.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And that was it.. 8 years of holding a human fortress made of silver..
With only one save about a week before the event..

A herd of saurapods wandered through my village and directly into my warehouse. Two dead, seven injured, 1500 meat in the stockpile.

A beautiful thing happened today in Silentthunders.

For the first time, my Dwarves hauled everything to the depot.

Everything.

On time.

My broker even showed up.

On time.

For the first time, my fortress is free of all of my worthless mechanisms and statues.

No rotten clothes. No large or small ones either.

Over 160,000 Urists of metal was imported.

160,000.

I think I'll be able to armour every single last one of my Dwarves in steel.

I'm shocked... I don't know what to do with all the metal.

It feels wrong. Something in DF went right.

Pull all the levers and find something sturdy to hide under, when the other shoe drops it's going to lodge itself right up your ass.

It feels wrong. Something in DF went right.

3 ambush squads and a necromancer slipped through your defenses unnoticed behind the trade caravan. It must be.
Or you are a dirty cheater.

The thing is, I've already had to deal with that incident. Fun rarely ever strikes the same way twice.

It's just...

Nothing is wrong...

Something is always wrong.
But not now.

It is known that the sea all but disappears from the beach right before a Tsunami...
