Whee, I've got a forgotten beast (long time since I played fort mode :/).
My caverns are cut off. And I found adamantine in the first year, didn't mine any of it. No military at all :D
Things going great so far... >.>

154. When you get the word "adamantine" on your LA vocab, you quickly cross it out and replace it with "cotton candy" and spend the next 10 minutes in fetal position rocking back and forth in fear. (Yes, I actually did this.)
...Wait. Adamantine is real?...
...155. You are no longer sure what metals are real or fictional.

This fort is boring.... I'll activate the Tantrumnator and post the results.

Considering what a pebble does in adventure mode I imagine Dwarves honor them as the greatest of all weapons.

Also it seems like my civ has recently been or is currently engaged in some form of war. All my migrants are coming in with atleast competent in military skills

I don't play Fortress mode often, so I was just surprised by my miner deciding that he should just beat someone to death for no reason, and then was upset that he wasn't punished for it because I hadn't set up a justice system yet.

Probably no reason other than it giving them a larger B-peen.

Okay this is just silly. Migrants pouring in constantly with Competent in Military skills and one or more skills, usually quite useful ones, always at 'Great'.

Probably a major war going on with a civ you're a good ways away from or there was one that ended recently, meaning the dwarves would have logically trained a large numbe rof soldiers to fight the war.

Plus a fair number were also scouts and adventurers in thier youth.

Just started another fort in Corrosion, my civ is called "The Gears of Disembowelment". Oh boy, this is going to be fun.

That much I figured, most had upwards of 12 kills in recent history against gobbos and trolls and a human here and there, but I'm more wondering why they all are 'Great x' I had 5 great engravers and crapload of great craftdwarves, a great weaponsmith and a 'great carpenter, woodcutter and woodcrafter' all in one migrant wave.

The Rustic RabbitHut

16) Bed Intruder
17) Cuttin the Cows

The surface is quiet.
The only undead are in my chambers.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Or so I thought...
A kobold thief corpse has escaped !
My axedwarves are sent to cut them up, so the escaped one loses an arm and a leg.
Then my militia go in to "tame" the other corpses, just in case.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The butchered cow parts don't put up any fight at all.
The kobold corpses don't even land a blow (when they die, the drop their weapon).

My axedwarves have cut the cow into 5 different skin pieces, including cow head skin,
cow tail skin, and cow leg skins. So after some thought, I decide to get leather out of them.
And there are two cow hair things too, so I want to get some thread out of them for my hospital.

I got a Novice spinner from the Autumn migrants, so he gets to work.
However, the Novice Tanner from that migrant wave is on break, so my Brewer subs in.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

Did I mention that I have temporarily sealed off my surface because I need to relocate stone?
Well, I did, and it turns out very good decision.

When Kyuoko ExpLeader goes to pasture an animal,
I get a notification It has started raining.
And here's what appears.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It only covers the West&Center parts of my map.
Re-checks biomes in Chapter 1.
Yep, I only have one evil region, so I'm not sure why the map got "partially" rained nefarious soot.

...

Who says undead biomes don't have payoff?
Here are the results of one immigrant cow.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, the Kobold corpses are still there, since we don't butcher sentients for some reason.
Their entrails are hanging out as they walk around in their designated prison.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This fort has had more entrails then all my previous forts combined.
Guess my dwarves are just savage here.

Well, one dwarf isn't.
Sayaka, my stonecrafter, has just made 2 masterwork toys (the dwarves requested toys).
Then her baby cannon activates.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Pregnant dwarves may work harder. I should give them more work.

Oh Look, Spring Migrants Have Arrived.

Yes, we have that as well. Roughly half of the adults have killed either elves or grizzlies.
