Well, earlier, my fort got it's first bit of miasma, which honestly scared me a bit. I was able to get a refuse pile set up, but then some badgers kept interrupting the dwarves hauling the rotten food. So I made a closer one. And that's about it.

at least my cooks are getting a lot of training processing the many elk birds that visit every season. On the other hand, the number of more than very legendary cooks seem to be making only masterwork roasts. If I could just get a cave spider to walk in on one of the traps, it'd be great. I'm even removing the above ground wildlife traps, it's just too much. I also get reports that the cooks need to stop fucking around with meat and get on with the quarry bush leaves, flour and sugar provided by the farms, we're running out of bags

No matter where I look or where I swing my pick, this embark is full of gold. Its like my second fort but with steroids. Right next to wagon is tons of gold. Under wagon is tons of gold. Edges of map have gold.

Everyone is going to have gold throne/table in their room.

This pure mountain spring water is indispensable. Literally. I'm out of paper cups.

Splatteredplanks is well into the winter, though a  small architectural slip up cost us quite a bit of supplies from the caravan. A few gray languar people came by, continually getting spooked by the dogs and herd animals. I finally got annoyed by them trying to path to my finished goods stockpile and sent my small milita force after them.

The animalman population is going to become very depleted when they come. I saw some snailmen just begging to get chopped to bits.

Also found two viens of iron ores. I wonder if there's any flux here...

Darkening, this is the point where the sadism code inherent to DF will throw you an insurmountable challenge. Believe it.

Yeah, I know, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

PraisedVessel has just had the 50th anniversary of its founding and while the Dorfs are swimming in gold, there's still so much more to dig out, the same with silver.

Water helps.

Yeah, there's a convenient cavern full of it a few z-levels up. Just gotta make some pumps and channels in a creative way

Adamantine has been hit. I deem only a few blocks safe to excavate... :(

Looks like we're going to be relying on steel.

We've also struck magma just beneath the third layer of the cavern.

Smelting has been set up down there, full time, processing gold and limonite, then later making steel.

A child foolishly blundered into the snow to pick up clothing, and was swallowed up by infernal ash. Three kobold thieves showed up. Two were killed instantly by a passing ranger, and the third knocked out, then kicked to death by a crippled axedwarf.

Alcohol and food supplies have stabilised. A dwarf finally managed to haul the second forgotten beast's carcass to the butchers - a giant cockroach with noxious secretions. It produced 333 meat, chitin, and roughly 100 tallow. (And eight prepared brains?)

I'm sitting here with a big grin, watching my off-duty military training as fast as if they were on duty but without all the bad thoughts...

going to smash all the bone crafts. Let's see if I can get a dwarf to tantrum

Just had an artifact made; a mica crown.

It has probably the most bad ass imagery I've ever seen in my own games on it:

This is a mica crown. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.
On the item is an image of Cog Largelashes the dwarf and Iki Sableconflicts the elf.  Iki Sableconflicts is shooting Coc Largelashes. The artwork relates to the shooting of the dwarf Cog Largelashes by the elf Iki Sableconflicts in the Forests of Extricating in the midspring of 129 during Ulingalathnokzam, "The Crazed Bolts-Battle."
On the item is an image of Amxu Fordedplague the goblin and Rith Gemvirgins the dwarf in mica. Amxu Fordedplague is cringing. Rith Gemvirgins is striking a menacing pose. The artwork relates to the tearing off of the goblin Amxu Fordedplague's right ear by the dwarf Rith Gemvirgins in the late autumn of 139 during Zokun Gorroth, "The Sieges of Disemboweling."

My Nix the Impaler file, things are going well.  Plant and booze is rather plentiful, for one dorf, but I'm almost out of wood, and there are a ton of migrants locked out in the open, slowly starving to death.  I must either get wood from the caverns, or...make copper spikes.

If I don't have wood, what can I use for Metalsmithing fuel?
