In the "dwarves are extinct" world, I breached the cavern layer to see what was down there, and was terribly disappointed.  Bloodthorn trees, sporadically scattered over hard stone floors. No water. Not bushes. No floor fungus. It became immediately clear why dwarves went extinct.

I saved the game, and promptly regenerated the world with 3 cavern layers, on the same world and history seeds, but with civs pushed really really high.  Dwarves survived worldgen for 1050 years. Elves and dwarves are at war. Goblins and dwarves are at war. Humans have managed to become necromancers and build towers.

I embarked on a nice little volcano.  Sadly, it was obscenely high. (52 z levels!)

Rather than waste several days of my life, I decided I wanted some fun this tim around. I whipped out dfhack's liquids, and cast a humongous 52 zlevel obsidian spire to eliminate the volcano's undesirable features.

Dwarves have cleared the first level, and set up shop.  2 years now since embark, things are going well.

It seems that ranged enemies are tougher in this version, I've lost 6 of my legendary candy clad dwarfs to a storm of copper bolts and arrows.

And I have slain many with steel bolts. The circle of Dwarf.

SIR PLEASE! I BEG OF YOU!

well, i had 3 wrestlers in my possetion, i knew not what i was doing. the first thing i saw was 300 added to my U-other list. i was like 'hmm, thats odd' so i viewed where they were all coming from, and it seemed that the candy vain i had discovered hid a pipe leading to the circus. and the clowns. THE CLOWNS! how was i meant to protect myself? throw my 60 hatchling cave crocs at them? or my last remaining cave spider after 2 forgotton beasts attacked me at once, one with poison blood and the other a deadly poisonous bite.

I suggest mercy sir peskyninja.  This is not the first to falter before the power of all three rings of the circus.  Many stare on in blank abject horror.  The fact that this one kept enough sense to find the abandon button in the chaos shows promise.  Although they made a poor choice, it is better than no choice at all.

With the proper training, this one may become a great warrior in the fight against the red suited, fancy hatted menace.

going to smash a LOT of MW roasts, but there should be enough left, and I exported enough that it shouldn't cause a tantrum, right?

edit:
to my slight disappointment, not a twitch. Hello? I just destroyed about 50 masterworks, people!

For some reason, my militia is training striking, kicking, wrestling and... biting? Didn't I give you perfecly fine bought and scavenged lashes?

There seems to be a fight between my CoG, my Chief medical dorf and my semi-conscious very injuried militia commander. My king ordered the Militia commander to be arrested for 101 days because someone forgot to make his precious bucklers, now my CoG keeps draging him out of the hospital and then is interrupted by the CMD who takes the patient back to the hospital.

Another FB, this time a quadruped with poisonous dust. Fortunately the marksdwarves were able to kill it from a distance.
Also more goblins. Like, a lot more. That's three sieges in a single season now.

The dwarven caravan finally arrived. It's not that I would need much from them (bismuth would be nice, though), but I have a metric fuck ton of «xsockx»s to foist upon them. Not having found the delicious magma yet, getting rid of all this crap is kind of a chore.
On a related note, starting exploaratory digs below the nobles' quartier (that, in turn, is under cavern layer #2) to locate the hot red stuff.

Also, stockpiling steel, tin and copper (to be made into bismuth bronze as soon as I get me some bismuth) for armoring purposes. Sure, the gob-gobs dropped a ton of copper and iron loot, but that stuff is for pansies. Steel mail shirts and bismuth bronze breastplates for everybody! \o/

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

My dwarves have been dropping babies like it's going out of style, and my brewer has been slacking miserably.

I have been solving the problem of a large number of extremely useless mouths to feed by letting the goblins have somewhat free rein over my daycare. Normally I would not consider a goblin as the best candidate for nursemaid, but astonishingly enough I can now produce more food than the little bastards can eat.

Couple of fey moods, couple of possessions... Nothing spectacular yet. Working on more housing for the stupidly large number of dwarves... Thinking of just building late dorms.

What's wrong with using magma? That's almost always the easiest method.
I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.
Check out my RtD!
