An elven caravan has arrived after I killed off the troglytes. Currently offloading their blood-stained goods into the stockpiles.

I freaking love elven caravans! They give you free stuff and train your military in the process!

the instant I get off the fort, I go to check out a rather interesting character that was in my fort, a spinner.  Turns out he has an arch-rival minotaur, he's gotten 96 kills, and hes killed a named giant tiger.  He arrived with no weapons, and he has beaten two unicorns to death with his fists while he was here.

Embarked on a site that's 75% haunted where it rains heinous goo. I will have a prosperous fort on this site even if I must reclaim it 100 times. And I will find a way to survive until I can sell all the dead's belongings. The incredible destructive and defensive power of the goo must be harnessed.

I thought I embarked on haunted terrain, but it is apparently 'just' terrifying. No undead yet but it is raining dwarven blood.
Being out of practice several dwarves have committed suicide (I guess we're in the second year without booze or food now) but I finally made my first barrel of Dwarven Wine.
Aside from doing everything wrong and banging my head on table trying to get military working (still no way to sort lists alphabetically ?) fort is going well.
If no zombies show up I will start again though...

FYI the only difference between haunted and terrifying biomes is terrifying are high savagery and haunted are medium, that would make terrifying usually the harder of the two.  :P

I also just had a human diplomat enter from the surface, hold a meeting, then exit the map via hell.... I guess he thinks he's pretty hardass.

Heh, just found out in the wiki. Strange...I've had some giant eagle attacks and seen the 'evil wildlife', but no zombies or anything. Kobold stabbed my captain of the guard to death. Perhaps undead appearance depends on my fortress size (currently abotu 60 dwarves) ? Neh, that can't be right, I remember dying within a month due to zombies...weird.

From what I can work out it seems that the "evilness" of a biome is random, some are alot more evil than others, which is why terrifying biomes are only more challenging MOST of the time.
It's possible yours just isn't quite evil enough for undead to appear, that's rare with terrifying, but it's happened to me before.

That goo... THAT GOO IS EVIL!
I adventured and the main human civ was smack dab in a haunted zone, with that goo. EVERY TIME I WAS KILLED BY ANIMATED CORPSES! NOT ZOMBIES, BUT DEAD ROTTING CORPSES! It didn't say it was a zombie, so I always assumed that the goo was controlling them, using thier bodies as vehicles to kill and assimlite the humans!

BunnyBunches the Rabbit-Hut

10) Planning - The Megaproject to Save the Future !!
11) Beards grow tired, Bunnies grow restless

So last time I decided I need a megaproject to expand my surface dwelling as much as possible.
A GFGHOC hit a foul vapor cloud and now I think it won't ever leave the map.

Well, apparently I'm wrong. It does leave the map.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Apparently, when an un-living thing becomes a husk, it will eventually flee the map and grant peace. At least mine did.
Could be a bug, as now I have 2 separate groups of wildlife on the map, which hasn't happened to me before.

I'm happy that I don't have perma-undead on my map, it makes this megaproject easier.
Except, the undead chinchilla men think my unfinished construction site is a play-thing.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

While the chinchilla corpse play on the jungle gym, one of the undead kia corpses steals the silver dagger left by the slain kobold thief.
Does scattered loot trigger Kias to spawn ???

And eventually these wildlife also leave the map. That is expected.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's about time. Those things scrapped several of my construction attempts.
I had to open/close the entrance gate multiple times because they kept circling back to the dwarves.

One dwarf is finally able to lead the construction-charge.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When she goes out, the others get hope too.
And the first round of adding ceiling to the surface world is a success !!
6 pieces of roof added to the expanded Rabbit Hut.

...

Meanwhile, the inside dwarves continue their work.
Some are doing individual combat stuff, some are building wood furnaces/farmers shops/jewlers shops/leatherworkers in my workshop area.
And the miners are carving out a garbage chute that will serve its dual purpose soon.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

The Mason Team (topside dwarves) are very busy.
A living skunk is my only frenemy on the topside, so everyone is working doubletime.
Some dwarves are so busy that they start wandering across the whole map while I am watching.
Do you have a deathwish ??
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It turns out I have some unforbidden stone in the external migrant-tubes in map-corners.
They are trying to grab the stone that is far away and across the map, so I forbid all the unwanted stone and cancel construction.
They head back to safety. Let's try again.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Much better.

It seems my stonecrafter is the person to lay-down the last ceiling, however second inspection shows that I missed two tiles.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My armorer fits the last ceiling, and everyone hauls the bunnies to their new home.

Round one of the megaproject is complete !

one of my bonecarvers was saved, by a snail man!

No shells at all on the map so when the bonecarver started raving about shells. The fishers turned up empty handed, but then they spotted snail men. The marksdwarfs turned a few of them into pincushions and the man was saved from insanity.

I am suddenly happy that while I disabled most animal people I kept the snailmen. I could just imagine their best defence being to curl up and hide in a shell.

Another dwarf made a slate bed.... I'm going to make him sleep in it...

New fort! Had a nice small fort coming along with a population of about 20 when a migrant wave of about 34 dwarves burst in >.>

Many babies and bedrooms later all is well, however I forgot how to construct a military so I need to refresh my memory on that before I continue!

80% of my dwarfs got infected with a fever, they all are living in a tomb underground that keeps getting rained on by neausating filth and vultures, strangely the weather does not bother them somehow

once you explain to me how an underground tomb is affected by the weather I might be able to answer that
