Tried building a sniper-tower outside my front gate, with an underground tunnel leading to the main barracks. A siege arrived, and I sent out my marksdwarf squad. They got in position OK and even started firing off a few bolts, but the Goblin leader was an Master Marksman himself and quickly pincushioned at least two of them, up one level and through fortifications. So I called the survivors back inside and broke the siege hand-to-hand.

And in unrelated news, a dwarf gave birth to triplets. Didn't know that could happen.

triplets are very rare.

secondly, thats why you check your enemy before deciding on a strategy

I'm wondering if starting a forest fire will hurt invaders... remembering that wildlife was unaffected, i'm pretty sure the answer is no

I'm willing to bet that the birth of triplets is significantly higher than the rate in humans... Twins is roughly 1/90, I believe triplets is 1/8100. I think. I could be wrong.

Dwarves seem to have triplets roughly once every 50 births, I think.

Well, just as I solved the food problem with more fishing, some migrants turned up

At least my hunter's back in action with ammo now

But I am expecting some kind of hostile action soon, as it's almost been a year, but my fortress has at least 40 dwarves

Zalisiden fell. The last able adult was killed and eaten by a voracious cave crawler... a Legendary Miner who broke the siege alone. The remaining two adults died shortly afterward.

EDIT: 6 squads of bowkobolds injured 15 soldiers. !!fun!!

my militia (10 marks, +-skill 10, hammer at side +-6 and 7 axe with +-10 skill, 6 mace with +- 8skill, 8 spear with NO skill and a lasher with 10 skill) took out a freaking FB beast dragonfly with a protective shell which (could have) used noxious fumes, and only 6 engaged and just didnt give it any chance, or quarter. I'm like, wow, the only injured is a pet cavy boar

After my strength was broken, I started a new fortress, Beardhandle.  My plan is to make it a big agricultural community, focused on farming and food production.  I just got there, and there's snow.   ::)  Oh well, we'll be underground eventually anyway.

Got appointed Mountainhome, but the king had already died, so "just" got a handful of expert soldiers to add to my military. Still, too bad, I even had throne room and everything ready for him.

So much garbage and miasma had piled up in my trap-corridor that I installed my first-ever atom-smasher.

My fort's name makes more sense in dwarvish than english-
dwarven- Shamebled (awww yea!)
English- Handleracks  (What?!?)

Anyway, Shamebled has some pretty good marksmen and a decent melee squad. Might have a good military this time.

Ironically, I'm drowning in fish.

Wanted to make a Human-style (or at least Human-looking, from aboveground) castle, with central keep, towers, and multiple curtain walls enclosing vast amounts of pastureland. Embarked on a perfectly flat plain and . . . is there no escape from the Murky Pools?

Currently in Phase 1 of digging the entire map down 1 z-level.
