Upon arriving at the conclusion that they are the last dwarfs in their civilization, my dwarfs have decided to take a group vow of chastity.

Excellent embark site too. Just no trees. Hope some tree loving hippies come along soon, at least before the goblins come back. 19 dorfs... Better grow quick or I'll have to wall off from the world or get some really skilled Mechanics.

Bugger it. When I opened the east gate so the caravan could leave, an ambush snuck inside. Who did they happen to kill first? Only the Pharaoh himself! No heirs, and the pyramid is nowhere near finished yet. Well that puts an end to this experiment.

Shouldn't the Pharoh been burrowed inside a solid-gold room having masterful-roasts and legendary booze dropped off by his many, many servants?

You would think so. Actually I ran out of booze and they were going up to the well I had to build next to the river. I normally play with a low population cap, so I'm out of practice when it comes to supplying dozens of slaves dwarves.

We're approaching the end of our second year in Athelumril, in much better condition than we were last year at this time. Last year my weaver went berserk due to a failed mood and ran amok killing several of the local residents, including the outpost liaison. We were a little extra generous this year, to make up for it. I've got some traps laid out, and the start of an iron industry until I can dig down further to wherever the flux stone on this map is supposed to be. I am guessing there will be marble below. So far I've run into some coal and magnetite. I'm working with some industries this time around I've been pretty much ignoring. Including pottery. My problem there is that though our soil layers have clay, I can't seem to get a clay gathering zone created. I can make a zone using , I just can't get it designated as being for clay gathering.  So I buy the bits of clay that the merchants bring.

So far there hasn't been even so much as a child snatcher. Not that I'm complaining, I have a long way to go before I will have a decent military ready, complete with steel gear

You need a kiln before you can gather clay.

Fuck me. A FB got in through the well in the hospital, and it had paralyzing poisonous vapors! My military managed to kill it, but every single military dorf suffocated not long after. Seriously considering abandoning since I JUST traded about a metric fuckton of gold and silver crafts, so the goblins be coming!

Edit: Decided to continue. One thing I'd really like to do though, is assign my militia commander a tomb posthumously, since he was the last dorf standing, and he managed to strike down the FB(and save the fort) with his last breath. Seriously, that was actually awesome!

Double edit: DAMNATION! Second FB arrived, and I don't have the military to stop him. You want this fort so badly? Then take it, it's yours!

This fort really does sit on the event horizon of madness and catastrophe
No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I found a way I could clean out the fort by assigning the stones to trade, while this will take some of the stone works take more time, the fortress will look cleaner, and the non-soil level stockpiles can perfectly go with all of their space without having a craftsdwarf shop nearby

I find a more trade friendly way is to make lots of stone crafts and store them in bins. Not only does it make your floors look prettier, but it also makes them much easier to transport to the depot.

As well, I currently am doing just that method of stone management. Working on my second legendary stone crafter.

6th year of Adelaathira (year 56).

Of course I picked a sweet spot.  River, somewhat warm woodland, wildlife moderate.

Things are going well.  Picked a high hilltop, removed all the ramps.  Built two bridges per entrance that retract.  Built a catwalk leading to the bridges, put up repeating spikes hooked up to some water repeaters.  If they somehow get beyond the bridges (which are also repeating, now laced with spikes below), there cage traps for them which are set up my barracks for "training" sessions once the creatures inside are pitted.  Mwuhahahah.

At first things were going great, until I realized floodgate water repeaters destroy water, I was in mid siege and I had to stop one bridge/spike trap from repeating.  I killed off the enemy with the other entrance.

Afterwards I thought, I'll just route some water to my resoviour that powers the water for my repeaters.  Next siege, I kicked ass, yet... I ended up draining all those sources and still 2 years later, they are bone dry.

Luckily, I had a better long term plan to route water from the river.  Which was on the other side of the map.  I built a 1 tile width water source all the way to my fortress, walled off.  Had to use water pumps.

Then some bastard trolls showed up and broke one of my water pumps.  But I had plenty of water, made quick work of them and killed off the rest with the spikes.  Built walls to block off the path to the screw pumps.

And now I'm in the golden age of my fortress.

I'm working on looking for a magma source to build some forges.  So I'm working on a bridge/repeating spikes in the caverns.

Btw, iron spikes.
