I just now got a legendary dodger in a migrant wave (not running this fort) He's also an expert marksman so he's now the captain of the ranger/marksdwarf squad. Who just made his first kill; a cyclops thief he spotted.

And now he's found an orcish thief. What a turkey shoot today's been!

Well... He's set as a hunter currently so he just dropped all that gear to bumrush it. Not fast enough to catch up.

Soo apparently my fortress has caverns which had floating islands in it during world gen. Or a roof just collapsed on my dwarf's heads. I'm not sure.

This may have to do with my embarking on a biome which had both aquifer and volcano, but meh.

EDIT: NEVER ENDING CAVEINS

I'm currently trudging through at 2 fps because I have successfully opened up a magma spire to drain into off-map fortifications. It was incredibly tricky as even with all the proper safety precautions, my miners seemed to have a 20% chance of instant death (The spire is about 200 z-levels tall, so the pressure was severe). I'm really hoping that once the lava settles down to the open level, the fps will pick up a little. Of coarse, having a diverted river doesn't help my fps, but that at least can be managed because I don't need to divert it full time: only when the obsidian farm is needed.

If the fps does even out once the lava is locked to the open level, I plan on building an epic suspended rock garden in the drained volcano. If it doesn't...well I guess I'll be forced to attempt cave-ins to seal up the breach and let the lava re-fill the spire. But not before setting up a sealed hermit fort in there!

All the wounded dwarves have made it out of the hospital, except Rith. Rith has healed all his wounds but for two: a fractured foot and a fractured hip. The wounded have been taken off military duties. I'm hurriedly crafting a traction bench to immobilize him... but my mechanic is lazy.

Think about it. If you ever have a cheese industry, just think of the value.

Found the volcano in my aquifer/volcano biome fort. Now lava is flooding the map. Fried dwarf, anyone?

But will he make better cheese, or just make it faster? I didn't think that there was quality in cheese....

My floating volcano fortress is going well. I've set up an impromptu militia squad titled, "The Hammers of Dawn(ing)". I suspect that a hammer insignia on the floor in front of the fort is not out of the question.

Damnit! I stole a tamed dragon form the elves, then chained her up and accidentally dropped the roof on her head. I also lost a miner and her baby daughter in the collapse.

Oh well, high master weaponsmith, married to a glassmaker, in this new migrant wave. And another married couple, with military skills... I couldn't permit married dorfs to work in the military. Perhaps the guard squad, in case of emergencies. I'll just have to set up a good prison in the event of criminal generation.

:o Warkittens? well that probably won't work very well. :P you should have made  8)"War Pigeons" if a single untrained pigeon can keep the forces of hell at bay a TRAINED pigeon should be able to defeat them. some testing may be required.

I just discovered my current fortress' civilization has one of the most epic deities that I have ever encountered in this game.

Tholtig Belalostar, aka Tholtig Fameburials, is a deity of The Mountain of Yor. Tholtig most often takes the form of a skeletal male bat and is associated with blight, death, war, fortresses, caverns and mountains.

The temple of Tholtig shall soon begin construction. Ideas?

When I was reorganizing my inventory to fit all by books on life and death into various bags and things, I looked at my inventory and saw that I was multigrasping a necromancer slab.  It was pretty hilarious.
I think that would be an excellent way to impart the critical lessons of life and death to the ignorant masses.

Morul crept through the caverns, silently. She was skilled with a crossbow and was tasked with hunting animals for food. A step, and hiss, and a rumble came from near her. Morul had found her target.

Then, she realised her mistake. A gigantic blue worm with a revolving maw of teeth for a head erupted out of the ground. Morul gave a cry of fear and jumped backwards, bruising her leg. She hurriedly loaded up a bolt into her crossbow and fired- the bolt did little more than anger the creature. It moved at lightning speed toward her, and Morul scrambled as fast as she could.

But she wasn't fast enough. The creature caught her by the foot, and ripped and tore at it. Morul was no weakling, but this pain was unlike anything she'd ever felt before. It flung her away and she landed heavily with her foot missing and pumping blood.

Grunting with pain, Morul loaded another bolt. She fired, and missed. The creature lunged again and Morul knew it was the end... She braced herself for death, that she might be taken into the paws of Sarvesh Canyongorge, the Hoary Marmot God of Volcanos and Mountains. With a sickening crunch, the creature bit Morul's entire left leg off, up to the hip. Morul was swiftly tiring, and she knew that she had one shot left. She loaded her lucky *<<*rhesus macaque bone bolt*>>* into the crossbow. She took aim and fired... The bolt flew true- into the head of the beast and out the other side. With a great scream, it crashed to the ground with a sound that shook the cavern floor.
Morul's last sight before she fainted from blood loss was her dear friend Litast Shemkol, Miner seeing her and carrying her to safety.
"...I did it, Litast...!" she managed to get out.
Litast, with her standard stoicism merely grunted and patted Morul on her back. "Rest easy, dear heart."

Aaaaand Morul has survived! The cave crawler must've bit her leg off so cleanly that it healed! She was 'Very slow to heal' but all she needed in the hospital was a clean and a crutch, and she's up and about again! Wow.
