Windmirrors Year 11 - THE CAT CAME BACK  :o

Woodcutting expedition went out in the 1st Cavern.  Got a couple dozen trees and some plants; but failed to notice that a cat went out with the group to vermin hunt and did not get back in when the doors were locked and gates were shut.

The Forgotten Beast Esp Asteustru appears - giant lime colored scorpion with three stingers - beware his poisonous sting!

I eventually get a notice that he has broken down a stone door.  No problem, that's just him breaking into the tree farm.  He'll next break into the trap complex, and then he'll go into a side cell after another door - at which point I shut the drawbridge to seal the cell and give him a nice ride on the installed spike traps.  An experience already enjoyed by eleven other FBs.

So I scan down to check and he is not pounding on the second door.  He's chasing some dwarf's pet cat back out into the cavern.  He eventually stings the cat (knocking it about three squares with the force of the blow) and then leaves to go back to the fine sport of door smashing.  Things don't quite work out as planned, but the scorpion in currently resting sealed in a cell with some spike wounds to think about.   :)

While this was going on the cat was lying out in the cavern with a broken paw, broken pancreas (from the sting), and some cuts.  I was checking her status periodically to see if I could get an idea what the injected FB extract did.

I have no idea.   ???  It's definitely not the same as giant desert scorpion venom, that's for sure.

The cat recovered consciousness, got up, and walked back into the fort proper under its own power once the way was clear to get back in.  It's in isolation to see if there is a delayed effect, and has been gotten to go through a waterfall to wash the blood off as well.

Alright, goblin siege.  And they are mounted good, they are more challenging when they come mounted on...

...That's a...war cave basilisk....I forgot goblins could grab stuff from cavern layers....

So the goblins showed up mounted on creatures I modded into the game to make caverns much more dangerous, that are only supposed to show up one or two at a time.  Big as a cave crocodile, lethal paralytic poison bite(giant cave spider venom on steroids with a 10% chance of insta brain rot. "Basilisk petrification") and 2x vanilla thickness scales harder than IRON....and they are all the war trained variety.

My own fortress has only 4 of the surface mountain biome species of basilisk.  Much smaller, weaker scales, and a weaker venom, two of them are hatchlings.

Whelp, this fort is toast.

EDIT: Got lucky, the squad leaders were on jabberers instead of basilisks.  While the bolts were all glancing away from basilisk hide the jabberers got turned into pincushions.  Despite the fitness and completely 'taking dozens of bolts without a scratch' -ness of the rest of the army, the commanders called the retreat once their mounts started passing out from bolt wounds.  Goblin casualties were 2 jabberers a giant olm, and 2 swordsgobs who somehow fell off of their poison lizard tanks.  Lowest casualty numbers I ever saw goblins retreat to.  I think the biggest wound to a basilisk was a chipped scale from a masterwork iron bolt.  Time to invest in some steel ammo instead of just making them out of leftovers.

I have dwarves partying all the time in the dinging room, a giant blob made of fire along with 2 other forgotten beasts and my dwarves are replacing the wooden training spears in the execution chamber with goblinite weapons and iron menacing spikes so a pretty ordinary day.

Dammit, these Goblin Ambushes are really getting on my nerves. They seem to come in 3-5 groups of 6 goblins. Way too many for just cage traps and my small militia to handle. And they ALWAYS show themselves when one of my Legendary Craftsdwarfs is outside (WTF is he doing outside anyway?). I'm running out of animals to put at the front gate to spot them (maybe I should just chain up my Legendary Armorer and Weaponsmith instead, see as how the current trend is going), and my militia has been reduced to mass recruiting peasants armed with copper chain mail, a copper cap, and a copper spear.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm trying to improve my defenses with weapon traps, but they aren't giving me any chance to set them up. And so far, I lost a Legendary Carpenter, 2 Legendary Stonecrafters(the first one was the Dorf who was single-handedly responsible for 80% of my fort's wealth), and all my very well-trained soldiers.

But, on the bright side, at least now I can make exporting blood pools and splatter into a thriving industry.

!!UPDATE!!
One of my peasants decide to save the day after seeing a hundred other peasant mercilessly slaughtered when I sent them out to deal with the gobbos armed with the bare minimum.
He created this:

Loaded with 10 masterwork silver hammers, this thing turned the next gobbo ambush into chunky salsa.

Accidentally borked the save of the pony fort when trying to put in the Phoebus tileset.  After about 30min of fiddling, finally got the tileset installed.  Time for pony fort, take two.

Some human women murdered a mushroom man child who got locked outside the fort. And a third peasant jumped into a river in pursuit of another, killing it but having drowned himself.

Now why the hell were there mushroom man children of all things wandering around out there along the river?

Also, FLIIIIEEES!!

Most underwhelming goblin siege I've ever seen, at just one squad of 10-12 speargoblins.  I sealed the gate, stationed my marksdwarves atop the walls, and watched them rain death at machine-gun speeds on their heads.  At the same time, a felisian (modded cat-people race) maceman caravan guard was running around smashing their knees in with a crowbar, after I'd accidentally sealed him outside with them.  I laughed pretty hard at the combat reports.

Everything was destroyed.

Playing the defense mod,
I got double sieged by Tiger Men and Dark Strangler Wrestlers, which had a total headcount of about 80. They killed my whole army and then died at the traps.
I gave up and mined out the top of a volcano to melt everything. It ended up killing 10 siegers that were still hacking away at one of my dwarves on the hills.
The lava hit my water source which built up so much pressure that everyone in the party room were killed as the well suddenly bursted upwards with water.
Lava spilled into the fortress and a goblin ambush made in from the back door simultaneously.
Finally there was only one insane dwarf left, locked in a room, and then ultimate evil attacked from the caves beneath and there was one more siege.
They all died in the lava.

Total chaos, but funny as hell.

In traditional dwarven taste, I'm making an "Angry-Badger-Pit-Of-Doom 2000 (patent pending) to kill the first scumbag that dares to enter the fortress.

WoundTrumpet's entire militia has been wiped out by Elves riding giant moose and their retinue of grizzly bears. Around 40 deaths.

The remaining 25 dwarves struggle daily to keep from going insane as they churn out coffin after coffin in which to store their dearly departed brethren.

Are you sure that the poison was "injected on the cat blood"?
