Nearly lost a dorf because a tunneltube grew in the tunnel behind her, sealing her in. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on.

Don't worry, having it grow in behind her just means the tunnel tube likes her. :P

My fortress was going well until a tribe of dragon men took a tour and set everything on the surface on fire.

Hm.  I guess "acid rain" still happens.  Lost all my livestock.
But on the bright side, my tame Giant Eagle survived.

I'm designing a dwarven Atomium made out of gold.  Golden spheres arrayed in a face-centered cubic shape, balanced on one vertex.  The molecular bonds will be represented by lead struts.  Not sure if I should make rooms in the spheres or fill them with magma.   I was hoping I could do both, but the struts can't be made wide enough to accommodate both dwarves and magma conduits.  What say you?  Should it be a magma-filled monument to gold or a ridiculously opulent living space for my smiths?

Make it an exclusive living space, submerged in magma, the magma can represent the ambient heat of non-absolute-zero. Bonus points for clear glass walls  'windows' that let the smiths watch the magma flow by.

Crap, it turns out that my embark only goes up 15 z-levels. I'd have to dig down at least 24 levels.  And I've got aquifer to deal with.  Can I drill a 50x50 hole through (at least) 2 levels of aquifer without flooding my fortress?  Probably, as I've got a fair bit of soil above to work with...

I'm most bummed about not being able to have a towering 41 z-level gold molecule standing free on the beach.  What's the fun of a ridiculous half-buried gold molecule?

Should I build it in a cavern instead?

Spoiler:  Could've gone better (click to show/hide)

My controlled cave-in didn't work out.
Meh. At least no-one had adopted the thing.

EDIT: WARNING! Extreme stupitity ahead!
I did it again and this time:

Yeah. Um. Sorry, I guess.

EDIT 2: What? Somehow, the miner who was injured (broken leg and broken arm) is running around and mining again, with few side effects. Yet.

I just realized that my dwarves have spent two years at a leisurely pace making nearly half of a 14x9x9 solid obsidian block on the surface of the embark.  This includes a stone "form" to cast the obsidian in, and a steadily grow pair of pump stacks to facilitate the casting process.  And no purpose for this work has been decided upon.   :-\

Not to mention what to do with the cladding and pump stacks once the block is completed.   :(

Make goblin fortress. As in, smoothed obsidian tower with rooms and cross-ended tunnels.

Got my first FB today, and boy I almost had a disaster as my gate to the caverns was open for my weaver(Did I mention this is a Deadly Dust monster?). He barely got back in time for me to close the bridge in the jackass's face. Whew!

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Dammit, these Goblin Ambushes are really getting on my nerves. They seem to come in 3-5 groups of 6 goblins. Way too many for just cage traps and my small militia to handle. And they ALWAYS show themselves when one of my Legendary Craftsdwarfs is outside (WTF is he doing outside anyway?). I'm running out of animals to put at the front gate to spot them (maybe I should just chain up my Legendary Armorer and Weaponsmith instead, see as how the current trend is going), and my militia has been reduced to mass recruiting peasants armed with copper chain mail, a copper cap, and a copper spear.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm trying to improve my defenses with weapon traps, but they aren't giving me any chance to set them up. And so far, I lost a Legendary Carpenter, 2 Legendary Stonecrafters(the first one was the Dorf who was single-handedly responsible for 80% of my fort's wealth), and all my very well-trained soldiers.

But, on the bright side, at least now I can make exporting blood pools and splatter into a thriving industry.

Currently cleaning out my whole "pet problem". You know... having them. With motivation from another thread, I found that it's not really that difficult to encourage dwarves to drop them off towers in mass. Apparently my tower isn't tall enough for instant death though, so I have to reassign them a few times. Shame I can't use them for medical training.

Hey... that's not a bad idea this time. I have plenty of useless dwarves I can train my medical dwarves with!

Oh, I'm also the capital now, but the king hasn't come. After nearly a year of no actual king (just his entourage), I've re-delegated his throne room to my baron. He's happy. I figure it's not worth actually making any items for him though, so I've increased my jail size. 8 simultaneous dwarves can be punished at a time, soone to be upgraded to 16. They have beds, food, and golden wells, so they shouldn't ever die of negligence.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Goblins ambush periodically with quite a few squads. About 3 Khorne beserkers charge out to a fanfair of flying limbs and the (imagined) bellowing of two juggernauts. Meanwhile the scrawny members of the fortress are trying to erect the rest of the wooden forts defensive walls as well as the main drinking hall. Much ale and blood shall be spilt in the making of a most unholy temple, situated above a river waterfall.
