I'm thinking of modding some new mushrooms in for my dorfs to farm. I'd have to start a new world for them, I suppose. Hmmm.

That's the first year of my new fortress, Inkyears, down.  I'm currently in possession of both a broker (For trading, of course) and a bookkeeper that I gave a full-fledged Throne Room.  The dwarven caravan left happy, with some beer and an anvil sold, and they walked away with some stones that I didn't want.
Year one totals
Fortress population: 16
Wealth: 29935 DwarfBucks
Main Export: Cut gems
Food stores: 228
Military: 0, but put in an order for some supplies with the caravan.

Wish me luck, because I'm going to be working with some magma soon to smelt some stuff.  Did I mention I embarked next to a volcano?  And I built my higher-living suites right next to the pipe.  "Fun".

So the whole fort is flooded, top to bottom, berserkers are rampaging all over the fortress and most of the military is dead. In other news, the militia commander loved that waterfall cascading down the food storage stairs.

Quite a bit of fun there, eh?

I've got a fey mood on my hands. One of my ranger squad, a bowyer, who has collected 3 logs, a platinum bar, an iron bar, a tin bar, and 2 cut light yellow diamonds. Here's to hoping she makes a crossbow. Her only item preference is shields, but I can rule that out quite quickly.

I had to step up tanning and bone crafting to meet the enormous influx of skins and bone materials. Producing bolts. Not sure what the leather will go into. Perhaps giraffe leather quivers patterned with giraffe hair.

Gah. The latest round of butchery wasn't cleaned up either. It's all beginning to rot in the shops.

Edit: The bowyer made a blowgun. Not much to do with it besides stuff it in an artifact vault, whenever I get the chance. Worth an impressive 139,200db.
A willow blowgun decorated with willow, encircled with bands of acacia, platinum, light yellow diamond and tin. Menaces with spikes of fungiwood and light yellow diamond, and features an image of a carda pod (a plant) in iron.
Not actually all that impressive just from the description.

In other news, we caught a wild honey badger in a cage trap. Time to get badgery!

Sounds like quite a fun time.  I must ask: How did you flood it?

Yep. I also learned that "he doesn't really care anymore" is insanely overpowered. While most dwarves were going insane and snapping each others necks, Sazkul the Militia Commander and two of his subordinates just chilled in their hall of nothing but a display case with a named sword, despite being hungry and thirsty, were still content. Though to be honest, Sazkul didn't have many friends...

I struck the river which was right next to my farm plot, which in turn was above the whole fortress. Then I dug out a nearby wall into a mine, which also had stairs that also led to the fortress.

Not much aside from having my militia squad going around caves and the land killing stuff, the occational fey mood, building projects...

And a Fucking dwarf GHOST!  :o

the reason I somehow now have this ghost is because a recruit had somehow fallen into a pond and drowned. I didn't bury the body because... well, I didn't see the worth in removing the lake just to get a corpse.

a year or two later, and I'm going through my unit list to see what animals to kill, and I find 'undead'.

Investigating this anomoly by looking to the left, I see: "Kib Stizashdumat, Ghostly Recruit"

Wtf? So I go to the location, and it's the guy that drowned in the lake.

I am now attempting to spill the lake so I can alow the ghost to exit, to bury what's left of his body, and loot the rest.

You could just engrave a memorial.

Your idea sounds more dwarfy though.

Windmirrors has started its second decade.   8)

The militia continues training and has a nice core of well-equipped legendary warriors who get turned loose on the goblins - and a patrol finds the occasional goblin thief skulking about.  The body is left as a warning for other goblins.  The rest of the fortress population has been split between low activity and high activity reserves.  The latter having a semi-active training schedule in order to work them up towards master level where they can be directly added to the "regulars" to fill out squads.

One magma pit was drained and cleaned of iron objects that have accumulated there.  The one in the other access tunnel will get the same treatment in the next year or so.  Keeps the armorer and smelters busy with adding steel kit to the armory.

A giant lobster emitting boiling extract appeared in the lowermost cavern.  It was lured into a room, sealed in, and spiked.  The 12th FB to be imprisoned and/or killed.

And it has been discovered that a candy spire extends through the 3rd cavern and all the way up to the level immediately beneath the 2nd cavern.  More blue stuff for the armorer and weapon smith to work with.

The main project underway right now is a somewhat leisurely construction of scaffolding and a matched set of pump stacks in order to cast a large obsidian block between the West Keep and the Depot Keep.  Which will be carved into the Central Keep and built up a number of additional levels.

Second caverns had a nice little colony of cave swallows - hostile, but not bothering me.

Then a FB composed entirely of flame runs into the second caverns, setting fire to everything, and runs through the cave swallows hangout.  They manage to kill it, but there's only one survivor, who's upper body fat is all gone, and he's just sitting there surrounded by ash and the bodies of his cooked, rotting family...

He'd make a great criminal mastermind to oppose batman, but that's probably not going to happen.

Im mining off of a huge spire of candy. crossing my fingers and so far ive managed to mine out 16 layers of it and not punch into the circus. mined out exploratory tunnels into it and it looks like the next 10 layers are clear of holes as well. maybe...

I thought about doing something similar by causing a loyalty cascade, ensuring the anti-civs win, and creating a whole civilization of skeletal dwarves.
