Fairly quiet period in Windmirrors.

Mainly project work setting things up.  All three cavern levels have a set of trap chambers set-up, or almost complete.  FB are invited in to pick on tasty doors, then sealed in a pounded with spikes.  Depending on edibility and monster capabilities the cells might eventually be unsealed and dwarves sent in.  There's a shower between the galleries and the fortress in any case to prevent bad things from being tracked in.

A surface area is being walled in for obsidian casting.  We have a West Keep, and an East (Depot) Keep, and it's time to build something taller in the middle.  Work on this was interrupted by a buzzard assault - which discovered the hard way that the unlocked roof door in the West Keep leads right into the West Barracks where half the regulars train.

A goblin ambush team did turn up.  Five archers poking around an access tunnel.  One stayed topside as a lookout while the rest went below.  Of the four in the tunnel one dodged a trap into a convenient pit of MAGMA and another loitered on a drawbridge and got atomized when it suddenly raised.  The other two were surprised when four axe dwarves descended upon them from behind via the topside tunnel entrance.  (They had emerged from another tunnel, formed up, bull rushed the lookout and chopped him down, then went below to ambush the rest of the goblins.  :D

Clean up detail tossed everything but the copper and iron into the magma and things looked like nothing had happened at all.

I just ran DF Prospector on Fightbronze.

Sphalerite is apparently the only usable ore on the map. (I got a circus tent instead of cotton candy)

Zinc everything.

ZINC EVERYTHING. >_>

*prepares to trade for iron, flux, steel, copper, tin, bismuth, and bronze LIKE A BOSS*

ETA: Defeated a FB by spamming DF Liquid whenever it breathed fire because... uh. Dorfs. Fire. Fightbronze wasn't ready for that kind of FUN.

Kuroltunom "The Embraced Mortal"

This is a gold war hammer. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  it is encircled with bands of honey badger leather, prase, and microcline.  On the item is an image of Endok Paddlereleased the dwarf in gold.  On the item is an image of the Seal of Speechlessness the perfect black zircon in black zircon.

Add this to the artifact silver shield my armourer made, and my militia captain is ready to seriously mess some goblins UP. My first artifact weapon -squee-

My game play is still a mess and I'm still sacrificing fortresses here and there to learn different aspects of the game that I stumble into.

My latest fortress finally has a working well running, but it's only a matter of time before a careless designation will flood it over again. So many fortresses are abandoned or conquered on this world that I don't even remember the names of them all.

Once I feel comfortable enough to finally get serious with a well planned fortress (I always say that to myself when I want to start a new one), I'll keep all the names in mind. Armok help me!

Ah, I remember how I was like this a year ago. My first fort died because could not move between z levels. The most I got was hollowing out a small hill before everyone died. The wiki helped.

That was one lucky-ass dwarf. He was the only dwarf to survive a siege- twice- but the second time the goblins got him before migrants came. Still.

Fresh embark, as I love knitting I'm taking only sheep and a handful of seeds to get a textile powerhouse going. Very cold climate, can't rely on the stream providing water, need to dig down and see what the caverns will be like. I hope my sheepies like cavemoss, pigtail farms, silk and sheep all on a single layer would be nice :)

My Goose Breeding program has succeeded in producing 7 goslings, along with my peahens and turkeys I have more eggs than my dwarfs can eat (1100+). Considering making Goose the only animal available.

I forbade my stacks of Hill Titan tallow being cooked - Hill Titan Soap for all!

Recently performed a migrant rush to save a dying hero who had singlehandedly held off (read: distracted by being beaten by) a goblin siege for months in a small tunnel. After sustaining heavy, but not trantrum spiral inducing losses and winning the battle everyone was heading home, somber yet proud, when lo and behold Mr. deadly dust antennae tick comes up behind them all and decides to ruin their day. Well the 5 people left afterward were all going insane and, even though human caravan guards killed the heavily wounded beast with a lucky spear to the brain, I figured it was all over. So I sat back and planned my next fortress while waiting for the tantrumers/crazies to starve in our now goblin free, beast free wonderland of a fortress.

"A wave of migrants has arrived!"

Looks like I'm going to be toughing it out a little bit longer *sigh*

You know you play too much when you get unhappy when your fort actually survives.

Currently working on the fortress Chancemined,  where my last two artifacts have been barrels, the first steel, the second copper, with an image of the first one on it in rubicelle. Okay guys, I get it, y'all like barrels. Can I get something different next time? Maybe a left glove to go with the artifact right glove y'all made a little while ago?

Happy with this place though, mountains and volcano with a lush little valley to one side, and beautiful snowfall in winter.

When I was reorganizing my inventory to fit all by books on life and death into various bags and things, I looked at my inventory and saw that I was multigrasping a necromancer slab.  It was pretty hilarious.
I think that would be an excellent way to impart the critical lessons of life and death to the ignorant masses.

After a little accident because I forgot a few things about gravity and logic, the first layer of caverns collapsed on the second layer of caverns (I meant to do it eventually, but it happened too soon). There was 11 dwarves in the first layer, six in the second. No survivor. Three of the dead were legendary. I'll be more careful with the third layer.

I found a pretty good embark that I started playing on. It has lots of trees, hematite, marble, and magma in the first cave layer. I'm only on the second year, and a giantess had already arrived!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I have a squad who made short work of her though :).
