i've got my first baby but because the mother took it with her to work in the deepest winter, a goblin kidnapper came and stole it.. my militia wasn't fast enough to catch that bastard. :(
and then i found a weird underground cavern full of colorful fungis which are now growing everywhere in my fortress - looks so nasty.
i'm now flooding the entire cave (takes a long time 'cuz it's 3 or 4 z-levels big) to drown whatever is living in that cavern. though, i have to rescue two of my dwarves...

You can't flood the caverns without walling off the edges.

As for your fungus problem, yeah, I know what you're on about. What I do is cover every soil tile in my fort that isn't an underground pasture of farm space with a floor. Have your masons crank out stone blocks for a few months, and then get to buildin'.

There's currently a shit-ton of white tigermen chilling in my cage-trap hallway. There's still a ton of cage traps that haven't captured anything, but they refuse to move forward, and my marksdorfs can't shoot 'em where they are right now.

On the plus side, I now have a shitload of copper weapons to sell, and some training dummies for my axedwarves.

After finishing the bedrooms, We finally managed to dig around the aquafier under the fortress. At first it seemed like we had finally hit a crapload of gems, then as I dug further it turned out that the vein was primarily composed of.....

This is gonna be a fun fortress.

The world has passed into the Age of Legends for Lullgilt's world! Finally took down a bronze titan that left behind a statue of a cow. The thing decimated my military. What was about 40 (including captain of the guard's unit) is now 17, with many still in the hospital. One axelord suvived after a good ten minute or so real time battle with the titan. She's now commander of the army. Still stuck with a mayor when I should at least be a barony. I think it's the side effect of keeping everyone so busy the diplomat has no time to do the chitchat. The mayor switched over, which is nice as instead of plat I need to worry about pewter. Not that big of a deal since I actually have pewter. Just need more coal. Otherwise, babies were born aplenty, but not sure how many have survived. Either way, it is now time to rebuild and become stronger.

A GCS appeared and attacked a swordsdwarf (not far from where a speardwarf was murdered by Troglodytes which were subsequently culled). It was soon swarmed by copper-clad bearded maniacs but alas, Ineth the recruit (with a morningstart because he liked them) was bitten and died of the paralysation. Died just a moment before a woodcutter came to pick him up. Irony of ironies; Ineth liked giant cave spider silk. :(

Oh well, at least my game didn't crash due to gcs-death, it's done that before.

I'm now in year embark+6, and haven't had a single siege.  Just ambushes and snatchers, so far.

You'd think with 24,000+ goblins in this world (and all of them belonging to a single 'nation') they would step up their war-game a bit...

I didn't build the Grand Goblin Melter for ambushes and snatchers!  Siege me, dammit!

Started a new fort, on a volcano. Set up a nice and easily isolated magma smelting/forge room, and dug right down to breach the caverns right away so I could get started early with interior farming and grazing. The volcano comes up off center, so the mountain housing it has a "peak" upon which I am engraving things, putting a statue on, and installing the End of All Things lever on.

First strange mood in Fightbronze; secretive armorsmith! Hacked down a couple of trees for charcoal and tapped the caves for ore (sphalerite), and was rewarded!

This is a zinc shield. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of zinc. This object meaces with spikes of kaolinite.

On the item is an image of humans and goblins in shale. The humans are fighting with the goblins. The artwork relates to the attack by The Confederacy of Assault on The Torment of Limping in The Plain of Heat in the early summer of 99 during Noloc Iskak, "The Battle of Horns".

HELL YEAH. Artifact shield, epic description, legendary armorsmith! Someone get me some damn bronze and let's boogie!

End of year 7 at Windmirrors and the goblins have put in an appearance.   :D

Five infantry squads (mace, mace, axe, xbow, xbow) and three squads of trolls.  They hit all three access tunnels with a troll squad and one or two infantry squads.

The north tunnel gets all the crossbow goblins.  Their leaders dodge the flimsy training weapons in the traps - and discover the joy of magma swimming.  Most of the trolls join them - or are killed by the more lethal traps that lie within the tunnel.  This leaves about twenty crossbow goblins milling around the exit of the tunnel.

They get hit by a dozen well-armored melee dwarves coming through an opened drawbridge.  The goblins get off a ragged salvo of bolts before being engaged by a mix of axe, sword, spear, and hammer dwarves.  A few goblins manage to flee while the rest are hacked down without mercy.

The south tunnel attack is much the same - leaders dodge into magma along with the trolls.  And the few that go further get chopped up by serrated discs.  The buzzard attack that materializes at this time flies over the magma but gets decimated by the weapon traps.  A bunch of melee goblins are milling around here as well.

However, at this point the Axe Squad appears, along with a Swordmaster from another squad.  The exit to the South Tunnel gets a fresh coat of goblin blood as the four dwarves obliterate the goblins there.  The sole casualty is the squad commander getting kicked in the eye and suffering some vision impairment.

The East Tunnel assault hits traps that mangle goblins and trolls. The squad then breaks and runs.

Estimated goblin casualties are sixty to seventy along with twenty-four trolls killed.  Dwarf injuries were a bruised eye (already healed) and a bruised lung (being diagnosed).

[Addition: During the clean-up I suddenly note dwarves unwilling to go near a tunnel exit.  I'd already cleaned out a goblin straggler there in a ditch, so it must be something else.  And on top of a constructed wall (an incomplete watchtower) I find a goblin bodypart and an intact troll.  Who somehow teleported up there and is now scaring the civilians.   The marksdwarf squad is sent for and the troll becomes target practice.  And then the civilians go back to hauling work.]

Well, there goes another two legendary miners, at least for a year or two. Stupid channeling, you are sooo annoying and manage to somehow drop two miners, along with my broker and a few masons down a hole. Luckily since there was a mason who actually did work instead of drinking dirty cave lake water like the rest of you, you were all able to make it to the new hospital on time. You'll have to sleep on the floor however, we got a new shipment of troglodytes and they seem to be breaking your militia's bones down in the dining room... Oh and please stop hitting the cave floaters!

I am now equipped to fully meet any noble's needs!  Even the pickiest and mandatiest of nobles will simply adore the wonderful iron furniture I have artistically arranged in his/her room.  Even the bed is made of ironwood, to give it that true industrious feel.  Plus, everything is completely fireproof (except the bed, until I get some nether-cap)!  Don't think that the cold iron will detract from the warmth of the room, though.  The room is linked to the volcano for a fully heated atmosphere.  Of course, it simply wouldn't do to have the common folk enjoying the luxury of dwarven central heating, which is why I made sure they can be kept out with an elaborate system of doors and floodgates.  It has the added advantage of keeping all the magma contained for the noble's sole enjoyment.  When he/she grows tired of the heated floor, the magma can easily be drained into a reservoir for disposal.

Hammerdwarf/Axedwarf pair that will act as the founders of the fortress military are now equipped with superior/exceptional (and a few masterwork) armor. Gotta love metalsmiths that like steel.

Also, apparently I forgot to specify axe on the axedwarf and he just used a shield while sparring, he's now ridiculously skilled in shield user. I'm going to try this with the hammerdwarf, now...

Still haven't seen any hostile goblin, beside that one child snatcher. We're apparently at peace with them. Huh, right.
Also, more horrid mining accidents involving magma, water, and more magma. Seriously, the only unrelated deaths were that recruit stabbed in the head by said snatcher, and a failed mood.
