Oh and I learned that you have to assign boots twice in the custom uniform menu to get your soldiers to actually wear a boot on each foot. But this rule does not apply to gauntlets or socks.
Remember kids! Learning is half the battle, the other half is violence!

Dear Residents of Zalisiden:

Naked Mole Dogs may look freakish, but they're harmless. We've already captured three. Stop sooking because they're sitting quietly vaguely near where you're walking.

They smell your fear.

AND IT SMELLS GOOD.

Yours in faith, TO ARMOK

Note to Urist Thread.
Also, I finished my platninum defensive walls :D.

Embarked on half-mountain, half-savannah, and I got me a sedimentary mountain. There's massive cliff faces of dolomite, magnetite, and some veins of hematite in the mountain, but I'm digging into a dirt section to start.

I dug a 3x25 entry hall, a 5x5 room at the end of that for my trade depot, 4 tiles inner hallway, and a 7x7 meeting area at the end of that inner hall, with a well on the side.

To the west of my trading depot, I have a 15x15 general purpose stockpile for most things this fortress will deal with. Next to THAT room is what will be a 15x15 dining hall.

Connected to the east of my trading room is my farming hallway of 7 tiles long. 2 rooms on either side, with my plump helmet farm at the end. One will be a pigtail farm, another for various plants, and two solely for producing quarry bushes to make meals.

Outside in front of the entry hall, I will have a defensive wall built up, encasing constructed barracks built over channeled surface farms.

Other than digging out bedrooms and making beds and that well, nothing interesting is going on.

Reached the caverns, and the whole thing is flooded. Lots of Ore though. The easy solution is to build bridges between the many pillars of stone, which means I'll be draining the entire thing into the cavern below it.

I'm channelling out the area in front of my entry hall to make into something of which I'll think later.

I need to work on my workshop level, and dig deeper for more stone. And mine out those valuable cliffs for iron and steel. And make the coal I brought into coke (I always bring some extra fossil-fuel stone in case I don't find any).

MAJOR UPDATE!!!: I used the 'R' command, and GUESS WHAT!!! I got the upright masterwork Adamant weapon down there!!! It's a two-handed sword. Now all I need is to dig down that far without chickening out about the demons (and FBs) and bring an adventurer to that site. Hoo boy, this is gonna be one stinging!

Of course, I'd also need to make a bunch of Adamant armor and other weapons and steel bolts and maybe a silver hammer or two from what I dig out.

Lucky, I've never gotten an upright adamantine weapon. EVER.
Breached/found HFS once, but my military weren't up to the job and were swiftly ripped to shreds, only the four strongest surviving...

In Zalisiden, we've been working on exploring the caverns with the aid of the useless Captain of the Guard. Mayor's mandated Crystal Glass. Which is not going to be good. There's a bug in 31.25 that prevents production of crystal glass- i've got pearlash but no rock crystal anyway. :/

Gonna hurriedly build a jail.
I've also finally gotten enough ores and flux to last me a life time, our armour/weapons industry is now trundling along - an entire floor is devoted to the smelting of things now.

Had a crundle incursion, yet another mole dog incursion, both of which were swiftly dealt with.

A lone giant cave swallow is looking more like a cactus as three hunters triple-teamed it until they ran out of bolts. Cruel. :P

Since DF2010 came out, I've only played vanilla DF, or no DF at all.  Yesterday I came back after a few months break and decided to try one of the new mods, picking Legends of Forlorn Realms.  Decided to try out SoundSense as well for the first time.  Mmmm.  Between the stuff I forgot during my time away, the new to me mod and its many easter eggs, and the new to me sounds, I actually dont care what happens in my fort, as almost everything is a bit different and surprising now.  Carry on, little dwarves - carry me deeper into whatever story that flows and happens!

My dwarves just stomped a bronze colosus. My Axe Lord who landed the killing blow has been awarded the colosus' statue in her tomb.

Now there is a giant, flying, firebreathing tick -somewhere- in my caverns. It keeps flying out of sight. I'm just hoping it doesn't fly up my well, it is far too close to dwarf party central.

EDIT: The tick finally made an appearance after loitering in the caverns for a couple of seasons. Thankfully he didn't come from the well, I was worried about my food stockpiles. It did manage to burn two farmers to death before I noticed what was going on though.

I wish I had a fire breathing tick. I've got deadly vapor and dust trying to crawl up my well.

On the 19th of Granite 'arcangelsd' said to me; "I'm f$#%@* drowning you dumbass, save me!"

But it turns out his little dip in the ocean earned him the only swimming experience of anyone in the 9 residents of the fort. Too bad he can't actually escape.

Failcannon is fun, but I'm still hoping Cignus wakes up from his 4-month slumber to take his turn because it's gonna be slow for me with school and family to worry about.

Farming.  Lots and lots of farming.  We now have over 1200 plants and 350 booze.  I also forbid the door outside so only 9 are inside.  So far around 30 dwarves have died and I am also struggling to keep up with the memorial slabs.  I plan to set the population cap to 10 then and develop my fortress for a while.

The death of Hallhealer's leader has produced madness....fighting in the streets and a great purge as the justice system kicks in after 49 years of neglect.  Dear God...Stalinism in Dwarf Fortress.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

I mined candy, I have at least three nice spires of the stuff and a good portion was surrounded by rock so I didn't even have to savescum my way around them as I could predict where the Hell Hole probably starts. I lost a miner to a pocket of magma though.
