Then again, at least I can just floor over the water. Can't really do much about buzzards when they just fly in everywhere...
Design a defensive magma curtain using a pump stack linked to a Midgar like roof construction that quickly and evenly distributes lava in all directions creating a near solid wall of impenetrable magma.

It is the obvious solution.

That sounds incredibly and overly complex.
It's very dorfy.

Seven ogres are in the lowest levels of my fortress, killing dwarves. There's 40 dwarves in that section of the fortress (well, 33 now). I can't send my military since they are currently destroying an enemy siege. I have no idea how they got there. I suspect a gremlin (all the ogres were linked to the same lever, and I did'nt pull any lever since a few months now). If a gremlin is running freely in the fort, he might come across the 'Plan B' lever and flood all the lower levels in magma.

...I guess the siege can wait.

A Vile Force of Darness Has Arrived...

...on the other side of a river-canyon whose only way over is a bauxite bridge...which I just retracted.

I've been neglecting a military in my current fort for about 2 years now, since I haven't found anything but gold. Goblin ambush. They cut down three before I drove them off with a mass rush of wrestlers. Now I have to get a crypt... and a hospital.

Dear Residents of Zalisiden:

Naked Mole Dogs may look freakish, but they're harmless. We've already captured three. Stop sooking because they're sitting quietly vaguely near where you're walking.

They smell your fear.

AND IT SMELLS GOOD.

I've devised and demonstrated a simple way to kill a Clown Car breach and now I'm in the Circus walling it up around the map edge to make it safe to build a new place for my dwarves to live and store their stuff.

Something terrible.

Goblin crossbowman killed four of my dwarves working on the wall.  Somehow dwarves are dying of thirst even though I have multiple types of booze (like eight) AND a well.

Too many died.  Time to dig out a cistirn for water and create some dwarven plumbing and toss wells up around the fort.

It's probably worth mentioning that AnimaRytak is the only ecstatic dwarf in the entire fort.
Quick, check him for rum! The bastard's probably spirited some off to his lair office, to act as pleasant refreshment as his evil scheme unfolds!

I had the parts queued up, but it seems a squad of their friends decided to show up on the right side of the river. >:I

KindgomEarth has just finished establishing its multi level streets with underground canals. I've basically designed it so there are multiple levels of multi level streets with glass fronted "shops" and houses. The rooms are divided into complexes and front onto various wide streets. The way in descends through a large entrance hall down into a complex of barricaded areas designed to be easily defensible in times of war. The surface is all but abandoned unlike my last fort. My ultimate plan is to make the underground city 100% self sufficient.

A Hill Titan came, bit was a bit flimsy, my shiny blue axe-warrior squad sorted it out.
Then almost straight after a Siege with Trolls, Bowman, Hammermen and some others, my snaking cooridoor of traps sorted most of them out but then the stragglers just milled about outside so i let my squads off the leash and finished them off.
Unfortunatly a few dwarves got caught outside when the ambush appeard and I had some losses.
A couple of corpses will have to be morialised or dug out of the moat when it freezes over.

I just learned that I can specify my marksdwarves to carry ammo and use bone/wood bolts for practice! I can't believe I've gone through like 5+ mature forts without learning this...this...REVOLUTION!  Also I just learned about pitting creatures into lava (bye-bye captured gnomes and trolls!) and how to make dumping work for me.
Er...some of the gnomes escaped, anyone know some tricks on how to spread gnomeblight?
