My mechanisms have been imprinted with images of legendary short swords - how nice. My favorite is a masterful cage I made of electrum, encircled with superior bismuth and masterfully worked brass. it also has a superiorly designed image of Yawnscrapped the steel short sword in rose gold. It's the only cage in my fort. I'm very happy.

As I spread my weapon traps along the surface (I plan to cover the entire surface with alternating trap/ground/trap), well as I spread them i am randomly greeted with dead goblins. They don't give battle reports, they're just... dead on my traps.

Oh, elephant meat is freaking awesome by the way. I have an elephant meat roast of value 27935 dwarf bucks. It's 151 units in size. Holy mother of elephant roasts batman.

Water wheels and bridges, and pumps and hatches and doors and magma. Very soon.

I don't know if you need other ideas when you have magma.

Possible Bug Report: I built and fired a magma-based weapon which somehow failed to hideously backfire.

To be fair, it wasn't a weapon so much as a set of floodgates that poured the contents of a volcano down my staircase to the caverns. I killed a Forgotten Beast (a flying, skinless alligator) with zero collateral damage. Not a single dwarf died, not counting my expedition leader who was killed during its construction.

Perhaps the shaft that pours magma out onto the front lawn will be more Fun.

Make sure to leave the front door open so your dwarves can bask in the radiance of magma.

Dear Unnamed Fire Imp,
Get the fuck out of my magma vent. You've already killed one swordsdwarf as he jumped into the volcano to attack you and burned to death hundreds of Urists below.

Hm.  The magma tube I found goes down at least to level 52... I wonder how deep exactly it goes.  Someone recommended using water to try to create an obsidian tunnel down into it, might try that eventually.

Yeah but it isn't as easy as it sounds, at least without causing cave-in spam.

Building my new project which I've dubbed the Dwarven Checkerboard.  If it works, it'll be an efficient and reusable way of dealing with a Clown Car breach.

A ghost scared someone to death (never had that happen before) and someone was crushed under a drawbridge (happens all the time)

As much as I enjoy a maintanence-light, trap protected fort, they really aren't effective at all at stopping forgotten beasts. A sky-blue flying snail with deadly spittle flew into my fort from below, and proceeded to kill my all the goats. Oh yeah, they killed my dwarves too.

I'm thinking of restarting my clan of cloaked swords for the sole sake of kililng forgotten beasts.

Cloudytowers still has a backlog for coffins while rebuilding. Military is coming along nicely so far. The main issue is a strange food for a bowyer and having no logs. Or someone who will go cut the wood.

While digging an access shaft to discovered Adamantine in the magma sea, we ended up cutting across upper levels of the vein!  This is an unexpected boon, but we weren't supposed to mine anything out until his Majesty arrives.  One miner claimed that our digging designation crossing the vein wasn't worth noting because we'd already 'struck' that same vein, while another said he couldn't tell the difference between the Adamantine and the Microcline surrounding it.  Idiots.  Well, the damage has been done, so I've ordered it extracted, and smelted -- hopefully one of our forge boys will get the bright idea to make something nice for our liege before he arrives, and it'll cheer him up.

The access shaft to the other vein went without incident: it doesn't appear to extend as high as our magma industries, like the first one did.

I'm sitting here, entranced my my utterly massive moat of lava. The associated network of pumpstacks, waterwheels, and axles I used to bring it to the surface are just beautiful. Now if someone would just siege me.

Apparently, not letting merchants into my fort and leaving them to goblin ambushes angered the humans.  They decided to attack me at the same time the goblins did.  The little bastards have become best friends and decided to test their mettle.

Two full sieges vs my army of 17 dwarves.

Results?
No dwarven deaths or injures.
No human survivors.
Less than a dozen goblin survivors.

It's probably worth mentioning that AnimaRytak is the only ecstatic dwarf in the entire fort.
Quick, check him for rum! The bastard's probably spirited some off to his lair office, to act as pleasant refreshment as his evil scheme unfolds!

A hair-covered giant earthworm appeared (FB), so I sent my entire military to deal with it. It immediately barfed fire, setting the underground caverns ablaze, killing my entire militaryalong with itself. The only surviving dwarf was the militia captain who was found fast asleep halfway to the underground caves.

Saved by narcolepsy.
