Either I gave each of them just enough room by killing a few, or all this fighting is actually competition between males.
I think it's the extra room. Because I know for a fact that a yak cow of mine once kicked a yak calf in the middle spine nervous tissue. And most my tame adult Draltha are female as well but they still fight.

I just completely explored Cavern Level 3 without encountering any monsters.  But I DID encounter the top of a magma tube that goes down at least fourty levels.  Obsidian and easy (albeit unsafe until the walls are built) access to magma?

Holy Dwarfus!
I just got rid of another Forgotten beast, this one pretty dangerous due to its syndromes and particular vicious blood.
My squad thanks to the Master Crossbowdorfs where able to kill the creature without having to get too close.

Some time later I check on my  Hospital and find my Chief Medical officer and the main Diagnoser resting with their whole body covered in vomit.
Apparently some peasant had dragged the body of the FB and gotten a few others infected with either the vomit or blood on them.
Seems however that most of the sick people are just rotting... Will be fun to see how many of my fort survives this one.

Windmirrors is in its fourth year of being fortress in the desert.

Triggered a goblin ambush while cleaning a goblin thief out of a weapon trap (his head is sitting about 11 squares away) at the fort entrance.  An axe goblin and six sword goblins jump from hiding to pick off a few haulers... Unluckily for them my two dwarf axe squad just arrived for guard duty.

The haulers run and the first axe dwarf duels the goblin leader... for about 20 seconds.  Dwarf dodges three times, and then lays the goblin open including a decapitating coup de grace shot.  The second axe dwarf comes up and the six sword goblins decide that running for it is the better part of valor.  Two of them get chased down and dispatched while the other four make it off the edge.  During the chase the two axe dwarves discover a goblin snatcher in the open and chop him into goblin filet as well.

The elven merchants in the Trade Depot got a first class show.  And they brought more large cats (jaguar, lion, and a cheetah).

Down below the magma pump stack nears completion along with the secondary magma reservoir and pump stack to be used for a little work with the aquifer and making surface magma traps.

The residence halls and dining room are functional and at this point getting extra decoration.  And since we have a legendary armorer now the goblinite will go towards better armor for the melee squads.  So it's lots of workshop work and militia training.  Plus dealing with the large number of turkeys running around.

And the heavily trapped access tunnels are starting to come on line.  Looks like just in time since I prefer them to the current entrance scheme.

The mayor so far is tractable - only mandating a few things.  Just have to work out who might be a good baron.

Fey mood weaponsmith! Large gold dagger (the steppes of swimming!(!), don't know the dorf-name anymore).

That's my fourth artifact. Third golden one. Third fey mood. Fey mood gold anvil, fey mood gold low boot, possessed (IIRC) wooden toy boat, fey mood dagger! Suh-weet.

I successfully added 807 million to the value of my fortress by creating ~1000 serrated adamantine discs and putting them into weapon traps with masterwork native gold mechanisms.

I hope this encourages the goblins, trolls, and ogres, to come investigate.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've managed to create a protective wall around my fort, giving me unlimited access to wood to fuel my hungry iron and glass industries.  For now, my effort is focused on creating a 117 z-level magma pump stack in order to fuel my forges.  Once that is finished, I'll see about re-purposing it for obsidian mining.

It's probably worth mentioning that AnimaRytak is the only ecstatic dwarf in the entire fort.
Quick, check him for rum! The bastard's probably spirited some off to his lair office, to act as pleasant refreshment as his evil scheme unfolds!

My custom race embarked in a desert terrain. We've dug out a little spot to store our food, and built cage traps to catch camels to butcher into food and leather. Not a lot of stone around though, so I'm a bit nervous about goblins, bugbears or hobgoblins showing up. To make it worse, my only pick was lost when my miner got trapped in the underground chasm and died of thirst. Hopefully we can buy/make a new pick in short order.

Apparently, killing pets doesn't earn creatures a name. So now I have a nameless Voracious Cave Crawler locked in a room full of pet chunks.

Perhaps I shall introduce him to the Elves...

EDIT: Well, the Elves came. I forgot to check the wiki as to whether or not Cave Crawlers will attack Elves, due to the whole "Friends of nature" thing. The Elves and the Cave Crawler are just hanging out in there.

Orc general showed up, with an army of 80.  Got to the fighting a little late with his squad, saw the red smear and bolt filled barely alive abominations of elemental pain that the other squads had become, turned and marched off the map.

Afterwards checking the civ screen I saw that he was no longer the general of the orc civ.  I guess he decided he wasn't getting paid enough for that crap.

I had a beserk engraver kill my last militia dwarf (really should reform the squad, but I'm a little busy trying to organise mass coffin construction) and now the nutter's out roaming the hills around Swordthunders attacking roaming dwarves like some kind of crazed dwarven ninja

Production on the water clock is progressing slowly but steadily, and stone for the edifice is stockpiling. I wish there was enough variety to mine it all out myself, but with only gray and white stones on this embark I have to trade for all the nice colorful blocks I need. The miners have started clearing the tree farm as well, so outside contact will soon be minimal.

In Oiledmoons, I was just beseiged by the goblin general and about 20-25ish other goblins. Unbeknownst to them however, since their last visit, I had installed a 7-weapon weapon trap a bit in front of my base. Now the attack came, and of course no one could pull the lever in time, so there was heavy fighting around the gates. My guys eventually chased them off, maybe 15 goblins less, with 5 casualties on my side. After the battle, when I checked the combat reports, it turns out the only goblin killed by my über weapon trap was the goblin general, one shot pike thrust to the throat. I laughed heartily at that.

My last fortress had a reservoir that was about 14x14x2 in size.  When fully pressurized, discharging it out to anywhere ended in fatal flooding (there was a "pressure release" floorhatch as it was always filling from a cavern lake).  My new fortress has one that's a little bigger.

It's 45x51x7 and inside a hill instead of deep underground.  Why so large?  A: Why Not? B: Those goblins are going swimming and C: I'm betting i can send said goblins flying off the map with the surge of water that'll come their way.  It's going to fill off of an aquifer below it with a pumpstack or two.

As it turns out, one of the dead goblin's names was Iceincest.
Please someone explain to me how that would work.
