I've resumed my original megaproject - flooding an entire cavern with magma.  Knifemurders is, sadly, in it's twilight.  The dwarven civ shows no notable dwarves, so I assume it's died out, especially as there's no migrants or liason anymore, and there's only 65 dwarves left in a fort that once held over 200.  Once the cavern is filled, the dwarves of Knifemurders will not go quietly.  They will all take up arms and train.  Train as the Last Brigade of Knifemurders and venture into the Circus to make sure they aren't forgotten.  Should they fall, they'll be legends.  If they survive, they'll make hell their home for the remainder of their days and bring dwarven violence to anything down there

I am up to my eyeballs in monkeys.  They are breeding faster than I can slaughter them.

Also overloaded with giraffe and elephant larvae.  And holy CRAP I cannot believe the fertility of cave crocs.

Lost my gem cutter to a failed mood.  About half my fort is busy hauling bonobo eyeballs and elephant intestines around.

It looks like Bootboat will be dealing exclusively in totem exports.

ETA: and perhaps roasts.  Up to 4,200+ meat.

Pointpost! Of dwarves that grow up quickly, [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] being tossed out the window, cats no longer adopting owners, and various ethics changes to make for more dorfy fun. I also made elves have a diplomat so I can actually get them to siege me.

ALSO: Pointpost is a 2x2 fort, which I completely forgot about until I loaded it up and suddenly the whole z-level can fit on my screen. Well, almost all of it. But holy craaaaaaaaap.

I'm going to hollow out this first hill to put my dwarves in and level my miners while my woodcutter makes the elves cry.

EDIT: Oh god, badger conga line. Just normal badgers, but a 2x2 embark...

OH GOD THEY'RE IN MY FORT

... aaaand now the dogs (which I trained into hunting dogs so I could assign them to dwarves while being able to butcher them later if necessary) are tearing them a few dozen new ones. Having a dog:dwarf of 1:1 is damn useful at the start. YEAH! TEAR OFF THEIR PAWS AND EAT THEM!

One of my rangers thinks he´s Aragorn or something, he won't sleep in beds (even when plenty are avaliable) and he prefers to be sleeping in the fortress corridors or at the outdoors.

Actually that's behaviour of every ranger in DF :P

The poor child who got her throat torn open by a rhesus macaque died, naturally, but she took a surprisingly long time to do it. Enough time, even, for my fey carpenter to finish his mood, unveil his artifact, which was a heavily decorated maple casket, and still construct it and designate it as the kid's tomb before she died. :o
Seriously, what a twist of fate, the carpenter making an artifact casket right when tragedy was happening. :P Kinda softens the blow a bit, not that the parents seemed bothered anyway, what with having two other kids and awesome dining rooms. ::)

And so Kneadwildness goes on...
Interestingly the casket was named The Weak Town, which, with me having no leaders or anvils, is pretty damned apt.

Edit: Just got a migrant wave, looking over our new citizens I see this joker named Ado Wavesurprise, claiming to have novice skills in every single farming-related profession, as well as crutch-walking and proficient furnace operating. He is also, somewhat unsurprisingly, a 'talented comedian'. ::)

My militia commander was boosted up in happiness level from killing Rhesus Macaques.

FFFFFFFFFFFFF***ING MONKEYS!!

FFFFFFFFFFFFF***ING MONKEYS!!, indeed.

I never thought I would be grateful to have a mood produce a frickin' tanner...  but a single elephant skin clutters up the workshop like crazy, and they've been rotting faster than the plebe-dorfs can cure the hides.

Running out of stockpile space for the meat.  FPS down to the very low twenties.  Damn this antique PC.

There are pink and red purple and white lowercases alphas all over the damn place.  I hope the elves bring a lot of sturdy pack animals so I can get some of this crap hauled off the map.

Hey, didn't you read all those stories about elven pack animals going berserk and crushing fortresses beneath their hooves? :P
The horror, man... The horror.

Elves bringing anything sturdy?  What?

Hell, if they can haul gigantic pandas and grizzly bears and giant cabybaras and other useful animals THINGS THAT ARE NOT MONKEYS in, they should be able to cart off forty dozen bonobos.

Pity my cages are still all wood...

G'damned hippies.

A third-wave and by now quite skilled mason managed to be near the gem setter when he croaked.  So now she's witnessed death, been annoyed by flies, AND accosted by terrible vermin.  Dammit.  Why does she get a double-whammy for hating flies?  Jury-rigged her a nice bedroom, so now she's just very unhappy instead of miserable.  I'd give her a pet turkey, but I seem to have killed off all the poults.

Maybe she'd settle for a cave croc hatchling instead.  It could probably cripple her when she goes berserk...

Pointpost

Oh, hello migrant waves! What's that? You're going to boost my population up to 20, because you're hardcoded and so the popcap of 7 doesn't affect you?

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Also, more badgers. One of them tore up a puppy that I didn't manage to stuff into a cage in time, but considering I have 6 female dogs another quickly filled the gap. Also I put grinding out stone mugs off until autumn started, so I only had two bins of low-quality stuff to give to the dwarves. Eh, I have all winter and most of spring to grind out stuff to appease the elves...

Anyway, yeah, now I have 20 dwarves so I'mma have to deal with artifacts. (Yes, I know, you can turn those off, but I only wanted to put them off until I had hit pop 20 via babies.)

FAKEDIT: OMG my expedition leader just chopped a badger's head open when it got between him and the tree he was going to chop down <3
