Last survivor is struck by melancholy... I hope he survives until migrants arrive.

He still has 66 days in the slammer. Another member of the guard is listed as the arresting officer and i haven't noticed any more job cancelation from him, so we will just let him fulfill his sentence.

Due to dwarf stupidity, there was a cave in. Combat report, excluding the impact damage, included:
The clothier is caught in a burst of white sand!
The clothier is caught in a burst of conglomerate!
The clothier is caught in a cloud of boiling magma!
The clothier is caught in a burst of conglomerate!
The clothier is caught in a cloud of boiling magma!
The clothier is caught in a burst of conglomerate!
The clothier is caught in a cloud of boiling magma!
The clothier gives in to pain!
The clothier slams into an obstacle!

Checking out the clothier's thoughts and preferences, I see that she has been quite content lately and most of the left side of her body is broken.

Looking around where the cave in occurred, I don't see any magma. She fell through a fire clay bridge into white sand with conglomerate pebbles. Is fire clay filled with boiling magma?

I'm no expert, but I've had the same thing happen, when I was miles from magma. Might be a bug generated by the dust or something?

Yea cave in dust counts as a gas.  If that cave in dust is some kind of stone it uses the stone's gas state name to describe it.  Thus, boiling magma.

anyway, current fort just fought off it's first and rather disappointing siege. They lost three goblins and we lost no-one.

I suppose I should screw some metal heads on my ballista bolts, though it's pretty much a fucking tree flying so I'm not sure why that's particularly necessary. :P

Was visited by my first ever named enemy! Avum Lutematched the Domination of Quests, an Ettin!

I had just finished danger rooming the crap out of my army, but unfortunately they still didn't really have any decent armor, so I was rather worried when he showed up. I burrowed all my civs and when he approached my fortress he was instantly set upon by 5 war dogs and my hunter. Then I sent my army over there to finish him off. The only injury sustained was a war dog with his upper body torn and his liver bruised, hopefully he will make it.

huh... I have a ghost. Apparently a miner died and wasn't buried. When did that happen? Anyways, he's not the dangerous type so I'm not too worried about him.

I'm up to 4 master sword dwarves with one in training. Dodok Utterstake the Contested Flare (nicknamed Law) is leveling his teaching skill in particular, which is up to Great. He has one-to-one sessions with whoever is green at the time. I'm currently training Catten, who is probably the most properly named dwarf in the place.

Our weaponsmith is pumping out tons of artifact steel swords too. I re-melt all non-mastwork swords so 3/5 of my fighters have masterwork swords. 4/5 of their swords are named as well, so it's just good all around. I still have no real use for armor, so the excess steel comes in handy.

The only other thing that's going on in my fort is a heavy wind-down of food production. I can last 5 years on this food supply easiliy. I need more barrels, but don't we always? I'll make some copper ones soon to compensate, and use my metalcrafter to do so. if that ever becomes a problem, we do have a deep well to draw from too, so it's not exactly a high priority.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

My crummy human fort (no leaders, nobles or anvils) just had an unfortunate child torn apart by a badger. I checked on the family, expecting a tantrum or seven, but no, both the parents were still escatic. The least happy of his friends was still quite content, and only his baby brother was really unhappy at all about the whole thing.
Mainly because he can't get a good enough view of the finely-made furniture from his Mother's arms, no doubt.
Kinda sad. :(

Other than that, stuff's going well; almost everyone's escatic and partying. One forgotten beast walled off in the caverns, but I'm just waiting for a goblin squad or just about any above-ground monster to come wreck my defenceless fort. -\

New fort, first mood. Fey, HM blacksmith. (just arrived, along with a HM mason, a HM armorer and a HM metalcrafter. 2nd wave, excluding the starting seven.)

Fellow trots over the magma forge (volcano), grabs a copper bar. I forbid it. He grabs a gold bar. Approved! I slaughter a donkey, wait ages for its skin to tan and bam, construction starts.

Thubilbakust, the Nasty Urges. A GOLD ANVIL. Oh hell yes! Now the big question is: can I use it in a magma forge? It's not magmaproof IIRC and I don't want to have this baby turned into a yellow-ish puddle.

I don't think artifacts can be degraded... you can set a wooden artifact on fire and it'll burn forever.

Might want to get a second opinion on that, though.

A damn ghost has decided to sit right where I'm trying to build a screw pump and won't budge.  I'm going to memorialize him so hard he'll come back to life just to appreciate the craftsmanship.

Currently starting up a militia and training them so that I can prepare for digging down to find magma...

I have to be prepared to have lots of fun after all.

One word: Badgerfort.

Caught a handful of the beasts early on so decided to mod the raws and make them trainable. Once I get up a nice sizeable army of them and dorfs (using defense mod, had a couple of setbacks, aka: lost about half the population twice) going to round out the badger theme proper. My elite crew of warriors are going to have badger cloaks and hoods, decorated with badger teeth and bone, and they will charge into battle with their ferocious friends by their sides, berserking together for the greater good of Erushlek.
Also I live next to a volcano.
