I think I just observed acquaintance decay... I've locked my queen and one of her entourage in a small room to try to make some heirs (after a year, they're still friends though...), and sometime in the past season their long list of passing acquaintances completely vanished.

One of them formed a passing acquintanceship with a laborer who came in to change a door, but that vanished over the next couple days.

Has anyone else observed this sort of thing?


On an unrelated note, half my fort thinks it's awesome to periodically start oozing pus and fall unconscious from the pain. I think maybe one of the deadly blood forgotten beasts is getting its revenge, but I can't find blood lying around ANYWHERE. Maybe it happens when one of the military dwarves that killed it walks outside and gets rained on.

Unless it's possible that syndromes can be spread from the pus of infected dwarves. *shudder*

Actually, I, uh... I found a pool of water, in my food stockpile area, on a staircase that one has to climb to get to most of the food and booze in the fort. And the pool of water is mixed with a couple pages of different bloods. Including the ONE blood I did not want to see there. Sigh... time to build a construction over that tile.
Casualties: A lot of job cancellations, and one miner who fell unconscious on the weapon trap containing the artifact giant axe blade.

Tower Divine had a busy autumn.

Got the obsidian caster back on-line, and while running it was not paying attention elsewhere.  One of my founding dwarves (a miner) hit the wrong wall down deep and got magma-ed.  I did not realize it until he bled out from the burns (and was probably not rescue-able anyways.)  Another memorial slab goes in the catacomb.

And then all at once a dwarf withdraws from society, a dwarf caravan arrives, and a vile force of darkness arrives right after the caravan.  The last was a four infantry squad, two troll squad attack - with one of the troll squads close to the caravan.  So I sent a squad of regulars out to escort the caravan into the tunnel.  I wasn't interested in a grand melee with the goblins due to their squad of lashers led by an elite archer.  Things went well until I was withdrawing the spear squad back down the tunnel.  One of the spear lords decided instead to go topside and confront the squad of trolls by himself.

That part of the adventure went well for him.  He wounded three and had essentially routed them when the lasher squad came up.  He kept stabbing the troll he was working on, counter-striking, and dodging quite well.  And then a silver whip strike crushed his skull through a masterpiece adamantine helm.  Nice one-shot kill for some nameless goblin.  The trolls, lashers, and a spear squad then traipsed down into the tunnel and were eaten by the weapon traps.  The other part of the assault was two more infantry squads of goblins with a set of trolls going towards the East Tunnel.  One goblin squad chickened out and ran before they got there.  The second came down the tunnel, lost a scout to a weapon trap and opted to head out another branch of the tunnel.  So I squashed the squad leader with a drawbridge.  While his squad milled around on both sides of the raised bridge the trolls broke down a few doors and killed a watch-cat.

Which was about when eleven dwarves in adamantine and steel turned up.  They chopped up the trolls, charged and obliterated the goblins in the tunnel, and then waited a few moments for the drawbridge to lower before going berserk on the remaining goblins on the far side.  As this point I need to go check who the new kill leader in the fortress is since two or three more dwarves have extended names from notable kills.  And the axe dwarves went wild in that attack - I was finding goblins missing parts or all of all four limbs.

In the middle of all this the mayor/broker traded a heap load of old goblin clothes to the caravan, and promised that more would be available soon.  And the dwarf who got the mood created a natural gold armor stand.  An ideal item for the duke who loves gold.  But it's going to go into one of the barracks for now since keeping the militia happy while training is always important.  Now time to go work them harder since I need to replace a Level 12 spear lord.

Year 12 is going eventfully for Rampartroots. Earlier this year, I hopefully pissed off the elves by weaponizing them; this was accomplished by letting them get murdered in such a fashion that the goblins died too. Now, I am digging a massive hole in the ground right by/under the river; I plan on making an artificial lake. Just, y'know. Just in case I need water? Mostly because it'll look cool. As soon as the river freezes this winter I'm building a dam while I finish the lake; afterwards, the river will be allowed to flow and fill the lakebed.

Uh-oh... Building a human temple sort-of thing for my retired adventurer to live in, caravan arrives and gets attacked by the (previously peaceful) giant badgers. Now they're really riled up, and  paused the game just as an engraged giant badger is charging, one tile away from my unconscious, injured mason.
...And I just made a traction bench for him, too. :'(

Well it's been a wild month in Lord Cage. The charming folks of the Dutiful Plague decided we Green guilders were too big for our boots and decided to seige us. Unfortunately our yearly trade wagon had just appeared as our scouts heard the goblin heralds. I sent a band of fresh migrants to the surface to provide bait, with.... interesting results.

One survived.

Against 40 goblins and their mounts, even deadly lashers and all. I was surprised at the courage of this young farmer and so drafted him into my longterm military. He now has defended the fortress 3 times against the green skins, and he's become a role model for the younger chaps.

He's even managed to swoon my Countess, and is her dutiful lover. I expect wedding bells soon for my dear hero.

trap-lined spiral staircase with a 25 z-level drop killed off the invaders, and killed one unfortunate dorf who dodged a berserk smith.

News from Dangermouse: I've just made the most stupid mistake I've ever made in this game.

I decided to put some idle dwarves to work smoothing the newer areas of the fortress. I hit the keys, dragged the box over the z-level, and turned my attention to other things. It turns out I'd hit 'a' instead of 's' and set them all carving fortifications instead. Oh yes, and my fortress was dug around a volcano shaft.

It didn't take long for the inevitable to happen. The only places they were able to carve were the older parts right by the shaft, so they went straight to it. At least I've finally earned my magma-fail badge. I don't play around with it too often so I've been looking forward to this.

The fortress of Lushmines has successfully defeated it's first FB that didn't wander back into the caverns. A flying glob of steam. Beware its deadly dust! Only lost four untrained militiadwarfs so I would call it a success.

Just had one of the strangest things I think I've ever seen happen. I stole an entire caravan by deconstructing the depot under their feet, I do it a lot, especially in the early part of a fort, as I'm usually too busy to do trading, or make crafts for that matter. So I deconstruct the depot under them and rebuild it a few layers below. When the empty caravan leaves, they come down to the old depot and steal one of the blocks I'd used to build it, destroying the depot. That's the only thing of theirs they took back, but damnit they wanted that block!!!

There are numerous wild yak cows roaming my rather expansive halls in a relatively harmless fashion.
I should just use runesmith to force them into being tame pets.

Ok... Next oddity i'm experiencing is the numerous undead deer, cave whales, turkeys, troglodytes, and rock crabs (I thought I made these CANNOT_UNDEAD... hmm...) appearing in runesmith, on top of the numerous clowns. There isn't any adamantine-sword-surprise in the stocks screen... and I'm in a neutral mountain bordering a good-aligned lake. What the hell is going on here? Is there an evil circus holiday going on or something? I thought only undead sentient animal men attended such events...? Never heard of this happening before...

Until I find them and slaughter them I can't safely retire my fortress.

Just captured my first goblins from my third ambush. The buggers got caught in some cage traps with a turkey, so I brought them back to my barracks. One I pitted against an inexperienced wrestler, but the goblin ran out the door, which fortunately led to my barracks. The other two I set up as target practice behind a fortification. Two of my marksdwarves were scare of the fortifications or something, so only one dwarf shot at the gobbos. After killing one with at least twenty bolts in him, the other was heavily wounded, at which point I thought it'd be funny to let it run. This one also ran right for my barracks. It was immediately decapitated.

A roc showed up, pathed through my open-air garbage dump, and got creamed by my legendary military.

I now have a half-million-dwarfbuck stack of 695 roc meat roast, made from its brains, intestines, lungs, and tasty tasty meats.
