Cheers to your fort's victory over the dark stranglers!  How many & what type of soldiers does Bellhills have for defense?

Sadly.. None.. We were attacked by a Titan; my military fought bravely but ultimately were all brought down.  There is one critically injured dwarf who will starve to death before long I'm sure.  They harmed the creature considerably, but it won the day.  It stands across my entryway as its fire spreads across my lands..

It has now breached my inner fort and is blasting apart my creations.. Blasted creature!

A toast then to your brave dwarves for fighting to the last!  On a related note, I hope in the campaign arc we get the chance to also attack Titan shrines.  It would be nice to take the fight to them!

I'd prefer to be able to go worship at the titan's shrines. Could you imagine rival cults in your fort each contesting that their "god" was the mightiest? It might even result in a Visitation by one or both to prove their might. They could even duke it out in/around your fortress, Rampage style.

If they are anything like the one I came into contact with just now they'd prefer to spit blasts of flame all over everything and burn the fortress to the ground.

I have founded the civilization of Helmgod, far north of where we met with the destruction from the Titan and hopefully out of its reach.  We will build a powerful fortress in this fridged climate.

The year is 250 and we have broke ground and are preparing to breach the aquifer (hopefully there is only one layer), we are going to dig out storage and move supplies and ourselves inside before the cold sets in.  We have seen some badger boars (thankfully not giant) but no other life so far. 

(all rules from my previous attempt apply)

Just had a huge seige.  This was my first one with a civ leader in the fray, and he was the special kind.  Flying mounts had been pissing me off royally in previous seiges, so I cast caution to the wind and sent my Alpha Squad out on a sortie to deal with him immediately.  Of course when they get there, the one axedwarf in the whole team decides to solo Mr. Badass while the guys with swords and maces and spears all poke and bludgeon his escort to death as slowly as superdwarvenly possible.  The combat report had about a hundred entries like "Urist McAxedwarf slashes Mr. Badass, but is deflected by his masterwork Olm leather robe."  Urist eventually figures out that biting is more effective, and mostly went with that, bruising approximately a dwarven ton of evil muscle.  Fortunately, Urist, like all of Alpha Squadron, is a graduate of Danger University.  Mr. Badass didn't land a single hit while all the gobbos were being stabbed.

Meanwhile, the other four squads converge on my front gate, trip a bunch of traps, then start milling around in my antecourtyard.  Which happens to be paved with drawbridges.  I burrow everyone deep inside the fort, and start a wall in case they get ambitious.  Alpha squad returns in time, but is strung out a bit with one guy way out in front.  I flip the "bridge flippy" switch with plenty of time --I think-- to disrupt just the goblins and cover his approach, but Urist McLeverpuller only gets around to yanking on it just barely in time.  About three game-steps before Urist McSpeedy steps on the bridge, it raises, sending stunned goblins flying everywhere.  McSpeedy stops to butcher, giving the rest of the team time to join the battle while the goblins are recovering.*

I check to see after the battle who got the kill on Mr. Badass.  Turns out, it was the newbie on Alpha Squad.  Urist McProtagonist's very first kill was a civ leader.  I have high hopes for the lad.

The seige came in mid-winter.  The treehugger caravan just arrived, and I'm still cleaning up the corpsy mess.

(I'm figuring out why some people think danger rooms are exploitive.)

* Didn't want to atom smash them because I don't have iron ore, and need the precious goblinite.

btw, cheating in a game u can't win is ok, don't give me the ruining experience crap.

i edited rocs to be available as pets, and i started a booming meat industry with a legendary cook
recently burried my stonelady (my personaly chosen ingame avatar), who fell to her death in a mining accident
Grimnir welcome her in his halls (u gotta know warhammer to get this)
anyhow, i got a volcano with the only use of fueling my forges, don't need obsidianfarm, cuz it's all obsidian here, which limits the use of my forges, as there's precious few metal to be found :/
I HATE BADGERS!!!!
caravans really gotta take more expensive stuff, i'm always giving away tons of valuable items cuz their value goes way over the value of the entire caravan -_-
*sigh* what to do with all that obsidian, any ideas what to build on the surface? alrdy got an aquaduct powering some magmapumps and refilling my well, original stonemade ideas r most welcome :D :D :D

I once used danger rooms, too, but casualties and tough scrapes make me appreciate each win more.  That said, we all play the game differently, so as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters :).  Kudos to your newbie recruit for getting that kill!

Cheating in a single player game is meaningless, the only one it impacts is the player, so I personally don't care if people use Danger rooms or not.. That said they are by definition an exploit (they make use of an error in the mechanics of the game to give yourself a huge advantage that was not intended).  I use the term 'exploit' not as a dig at others but just because in my eyes its an accurate term, I don't know in what world it wouldn't be considered an exploit.

I don't use them for two reasons, one I don't prefer to make use of exploits and two is I prefer the feeling of accomplishment I get when I overcome the odds without the assistance of such options that make overcoming odds easier (in the same vein I also don't use certain traps, wall myself in, etc).

That said, I am not judging those who use danger rooms, or wall themselves in, or do whatever else.  I prefer to set high challenges for myself knowing that my odds of overcoming them are almost zero (heck I just fought a titan with a population of fifteen dwarves and no metal industry) cause I like the challenge.

I'm currently being swarmed by badger-men (and badger-women).  I'm trying to work out whether I can lay down a bunch of cage traps, capture them, tame them (I've removed PET_EXOTICs) and then breed/war-train them.  No idea (from the RAWs) whether this is even possible, but I'm going to give it a shot!  :)

Why do you think it is hard? It is actually very simple, if you are starving or dehydrated, "On break" job is never generated for this dorf. This is enough.

Wrestlers die. Dogs die. Decent weapon and armour is must. Otherwise it will end badly. Military screen is from hell (most obtuse, horrible UI that I ever seen in any game) and you must consult wiki to do anything sensible. And pray you will not see "Soldier (cannot follow order)". In 50+% cases it means "I will not do anything just because". Or, more precisely, bug. A lot of them, by the way. Set seasonal autosave and good luck.

I just found a squad of dark dwarves (might be Genesis stuff) in my caverns and decided to use them to train my militia. After a surprisingly tough fight I killed them and looted their belongings. Among them was a mail shirt of the following description:

Helmgod: Sandstone, 251-

Construction=
We have built up our 'soil level' infrastructure.  We have a farm setup, we have storage and some rooms for us to wait until we breach the aquifer.. Unfortunately there in lies the problem.  We have breached two levels and are onto the third, this is useing up valuable time that we could use to build walls and manufacture weapons..

Production=
Nearly none, outside of food stuffs.

Combat=
None thankfully save for a few badgers.
