Goblins appeared.

Lost two dwarves - one crushed under a drawbridge - and most of my dogs. Trapped two goblins inside. My militia attempted to kill them. Only one of the four is still fit for duty - the commander has a damaged head, another has a broken foot, and one is simply dead. But on the plus side, the goblins are also dead.

A mining incident just killed one of my three legendary miners, plus the metalcrafter I'd just ordered to help them. Damn.

Accidentally dug ramps underneath a tree. Not a good idea.

EDIT: Appears I also broke both legs and one arm of another dwarf. Time to rapidly build a hospital!
it won't help, he's a gonner.
...
that is, UNTIL the NEW df with BUGFIXES comes out (toady says he did the crutch bug yay!)

Mmm, so much cotton candy! I went reckless and pierced right into the middle of a pillar. As luck would have it, it was solid. :D

Very much so, but it was totally worth it. :P
I'm having second thoughts about digging through the floor where it meets the semi-molten rock though, hidden fun stuff might be hiding below it. Or are those fun all the way to the top?

Main metalworker had a fey mood. He made another artifact iron warhammer.

Now I am happy, because I have both legendary weaponsmith and armorsmith !

That makes me feel very lucky and very paranoid at the same time. Good thing they can't handle pickaxes themselves. =P

The giant shrimp buggered off back into the caves where it resumed creeping about like the rotting time bomb that it is. I put up some cage traps. The waiting tactic got one of my wounded dwarves infected and killed him, but it's better than a whole squad.

Well, there was a goblin ambush.

Roughly 20 goblins in full.

They slaughter the Elven caravan, some of them get caught by my cage traps, and then I have no more defenses apart from my military. Seeing how half of them are marksgoblins, I say "gonna be harder than expected"

I call my squad to attack, then decide that charging blindly into a marksgoblin squad might be a bad idea.

Then I see my expedition leader, a lady without a weapon, inside the pack of goblins.

I call my squad to charge and save her.

Well, "save her", no sell ! No damsel in distress at all !

With as only military equipment only a bronze breastplate, bismuth bronze shield, iron cap and bismuth bronze greaves, she fought for her colony.

She fought all day long, one against sixteen.

She killed seven goblins this day, every single dead one getting it's head caved by her mighty shield, and the others fled.

The rest of the squad did not arrived in time.

And there she stood.

She parried and dodged all bolts. No damage at all.

This is the most awesome thing I have ever seen in DF since long. She's getting a quality room ASAP.

Be damned all blue metal spires submerged in magma! Damned, I say!

In other news, gonna try the following:
-draining the subterranean water into the magma sea and see what happens, besides FPS rape
-finish a magma pump stack to the surface; I haven't planned yet how to stop it once I start it up, which is not a big issue, as I've always wanted to flood part of the map in magma. First time I'm gonna play with magma, too!

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

The top layer of adamantine is always safe. Every other layer is a gamble unless you already know that it's safe below that point.

Handy knowledge, that. Also, in a moment of sheer curiousity i decided to save (naughty me) and dig down. Turns out, the fun was a mere 4 layers further down. Now my fortress is SWARMING WITH AMPERSANDS OH GOD HELP

Edit: Aaaaaaand it's over. I now see why it is labelled as dangerously large amounts of fun.

I've just had a murderer break out of his chains in prison. Billon, while plentiful, is not particularly secure. The sentence has been upgraded from imprisonment to a solid paddling administered by a small man dressed in leather. Fortress management has responded by setting up cameras in the jail.

edit/update: Rejailed perpetrator, who insisted on causing trouble. In a fit, the miserable sod killed two dogs. Guards were summoned. The captain of the guard suffered multiple fractures and was hospitalized. 110 pages of wooden weapons deflected by a damaged pig tail hood ends when Urist McGuard shatters the prisoner's skull with one solid kick. Urist is rewarded with private chambers, which he shares with his wife, and the prisoner is buried somewhere deep underground.

edit: The mayor persists in demanding items made of exotic metals.
