They are rare in experienced forts, but they can happen.  If kobolds manage to take off with a good amount of loot over time they'll consider you an easy mark and start sending ambushes.

4 pig tail threads/ropes. This is with genesis mod though, so it could be something to do with that.

Huh. I might have to start leaving stockpiles of goodies outside to lure in kobold ambushes. Need more bodies for the training arena.

Standardelbow, a dwarven fortress with sand, fire clay, marble, tetrahedrite laced through the caverns and cobaltite down deep. STRIKE THE EARTH!

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

Ramring, Winter year 1. A wave of ducks claimed my nest boxes, but the cage traps took care of them. Then the alligators showed up. Now cageless, it was up to the plucky guard dogs to hold them off until the axedwarves got there. I now have a tail-less dog, and a militia commander clad only in alligator blood and two copper gauntlets.

My first Caravan HAS NO BOOZE!

Firely Ichor, Oriole blood, and a couple other yicky things yet. Booze no.

This is worse then the time the gateway to hell caved in right as I embarked. At least those guys died happy.

First invasion today. Centaurs attacked, I holed up, built an extra bridge inside my fortress which I thought would act as a wall so I could just sit them on the bridge and drop them into the river. No such luck. I killed about ten or so by dropping them into the drink, but it really wasn't enough, the remaining six or so attacked my young fledgling fort and there was a lot of blood.
We managed to kill all but one, at a cost of thirty dwarves.

We also managed to Separate the men from the boys.. or women. Rith the wrestler slew four of them and received only a glancing head wound. She pretty much saved the fort. The last one ran away, the survivors and the wounded headed to the hospital at which point my clothier decided to go on a murderous rampage and kill every patient in there. Rith was included.

We killed the clothier and now we start to rebuild with only ten dwarves.

How fun.

I've learnt valuable lessons and information from this experience.

There's so many things you can build with the ash it drops. Buckets of lye... for soap, I guess. Clear glass I guess? Or glaze a bunch of pots.

Or you could build a workshop with it. Or a well. Or a bridge.

Ash is so versatile!

My beekeeping industry is under assault by waves of rhesus macaques and buzzards. On the plus side, I now have 28 ducklings running around.
