I'm thinking adding living quarters for a pet dragon to my dragon statue megaproject.

For some reason a well-tanned human diplomat arrived shortly after with a caravan of adept mechanics and promised to help with the project, free of charge. Figures.

Seriously? I didn't know they could do that. And you should definately have a pet dragon or two. Even better, train them to be war dragons and have fly out of the eyes.

No! No! I will not massacre my children. Instead, I'll make them corpulent on crappy mass-produced quarry bush biscuits and questionably grown mushroom alcohol, and then send them into the military when they turn 12...

Got ambushed by Goblins, only had a weak military and i forgot to get traps set up, so all i could do was send Dwarves and Animals out to delay them while i got some mining and engraving done. The Goblins eventually left, but i'd lost over 2/3s of the fortress population by then and i couldn't be bothered trying to salvage the situation :P. Oh well, i'll remember to put traps when i reclaim the fort.

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

That's very funny game.

Not really. Some people have gotten over seven in a single year.

If your parent civ is dead then no more will come. Kids will be born though.

So I suggest you wall in. No caravans from dwarves, no dwarven liason. If you can keep your fort self-sustained (and especially if you can flood the world outside remotely) then you don't need caravans.

Good luck. Yours might be the last for that civ.

How did I manage without efficient marksdwarfs before? Thanks to them, there's only one casualty in my fort despite a big siege!
... the muskox that ran wild inside did more damage (one dead, one severely beaten-up dorf).  :-\

It's amazing isnt it? What people usually bash and claim as ineffective turning out to be the best option (most of the time, that is)

Actually, in my own experience, I've had a lot of trouble last time with my marksdwarfs. They were vastly ineffectual and some leveled their hammerdwarf skill faster than their crossbow-related ones. In my new fortress, for some reason, they are actually competent, and hunters play quite the important part in the community. They're so useful I can do for now without weapon traps (not enough ressources to waste on weapons that won't be wielded by my military).
So huh in conclusion, marksdorfs' AI is a crapshoot. But when it works, man, does it work.
