Hi!

Thanks to the delay in the release of the next version, my dwarves have made quite some progress in the digging out of the big project (but because of the layout of the lowest level, it can actually not be really partially finished (^_^;; ).

On the front of pets, I have made a lot of progress: From around 150 pets, I am down to 21 (until I get some new kittens) by slaughtering foals and bear cubs in two butchery shops and caging and trading away all the unnamed kittens (the named cats, whose owner had committed suicide, have a special right to stay until their natural death). That has not done much for my frame rate, of course. Given that I now have tons and tons of stone ( 30,086 at the last count, to be exact), there is more than enough to eat up my frame rate - and the animal theory is probably a myth anyway.

So, let's see if I can actually get at least the western part finished after all (^_^;;

It sure isn't. Animal pathing (outside of their cages) definitely hits framerate, but that stone will do it in faster.

My fort now has to contend with a Leechbeast in the bottom of the well. It seems Fortifications are even more useless as filtration devices. I should have just built bars. then grates, but I thought maybe a fortification would stop buildingdestroyers. It appears it not only did not stop them, it didn't do anything.

Cue the tantrum spiral.

Buzzards above, Beasts below, and madness inbetween.

Hah, turns out this 3rd siege I am having is not exactly what I thougt it is.

Right now outside my fortress are the following siegers:

7 giant olms
7 cave crocodiles
18 Trolls
- 2 animal trainers
- 3 hunters
- 1 animal dissector
- 1 metalsmith
- 2 weaponsmiths
- 2 gem setters
- 1 woodcrafter
- 2 fish cleaners
- 2 farmers
- 1 clerk
- 1 surgeon
- 3 normal trolls
2 Goblin hammerlords
15 swordgoblins
15 macegoblins
1 goblin macelord
28 goblin lashers (2 squads, 13 of them ridding giant olms and crocodiles while 1 olm seems alone)

It is not a siege. It is a migration wave.
Just look at this trolls.

I guess the Goblins and Trolls are planning to evict you from your fortress and replace it with sentient trolls capable of handling a fortress by themselves.

Hilariousness is going on in my fort. I decided to go ahead and kill the fortress (the dwarven diplomat/liaison/whatever is dead, and I wanted to get nobles and all) so I'm digging deep and killing everything that enters the map. at the moment, I have thirty dwarves with the job "Kill elves". Sadly enough, they don't seem to be attacking them. And I've hit the semi-molten rock, so it'll take some time before I actually dig too deep.

a. Dwarves won't kill friendlies due to ethics.

Due to some sort of a brain fart I appointed fortress guard, even with many mayors bug still in effect. Result? Jailed grand master weaponsmith just as I was preparing to forge adamantine weapons. Another brain fart hit when I deconstructed the jail BEFORE disbanding the murderous law enforcers. The weaponsmith ran free, then ran into captain out to dole out the justice by beating. With his masterwork steel mace. I am surprised poor Stodir (the weaponmsmith) survived. He was plopped in the bed and diagnosed with broken arms, leg, shoulder, hip, and rot in the skin over most of his upper body.

I sighed with resignation and went on to fill my forges with weapon making jobs to level up my other smith, only on professional level.

Imagine my surprise when not long after I saw Studir at a forge. Working. Churning out masterwork steel weapons at an insane pace. Surrounded by a huge miasma cloud gushing from his rotten skin, barely standing on his shattered leg, grasping the hammer with broken fingers.

Axelords who will wield his masterwork adamantine battle axes will smell them and remember how they were made.

They were made with pure, unbreakable dwarven spirit.

Elven traders just gt here.  before they could take a single step from the edge of the map to the trade depot 20 squares away,  10 goblin ambush squads jumped on them.

Before one's mule died, he made it 3 tiles from the edge.  That's the best they got.
