Wow Deathworks, your project looks...ambitious.   :D
Also, is the a story behind why there are only 12 dwarfs in 7 years old fortress?

Hi!

Thank you for your kind words, Sinistar.

As I hinted at, that project was actually something that should have taken place much later with many more dwarves. But given that things have not worked out and with the new release approaching, I just sent the dwarves on a crazy charge.

As for the numbers, I first need to correct a little bit of information - that fortress started in 1051 (world gen using the default 1050), so it is 17 years old, not 7 (it is only 7 years after the previous upload I made of that fortress).

The number of dwarves is not that surprising, in a way, even though it bears testimony to my failure. My fortresses are usually no-immigration fortresses with a low population cap. Of course, I can't stop the migrant waves during the first year, so I ended up with 13 dwarves instead of just 7. But me being too good at giving the dwarves a lot of work (even without that project), no one ever married, so I got no children. After about 12 years, I gave up on the breeding, as I simply couldn't reduce the workload enough, and had them go at the big project instead.

This also meant that I doomed my cat-loving dwarf, a fact that I was already aware of. You see, now, with me pushing them really beyond reason, they never converse with friends, thus, do not get many positive thoughts. And 12 years into the fortress, the cats begin to die of old age ......

Fortunately, the dwarf turned to melancholy and simply refused to drink until he died. Had he gone berserk, I wouldn't have 12 dwarves left - he was one of my woodcutters, after all.

So, not really anything exciting about that fortress - another small, failed fortress, that is all.

Just started my first fort by the sea... so far I'm puzzled by the driftwood and other trinkets washing ashore, as I cant seem to claim them :/
This will also be my first fort with some modding, making my dorfs go insanely fast and never sleep :D
Planning to see if I can build part of the fort above the sea, maybe kill a whale or summing...

Everybody died of thirst.... no more seaside forts for me :) I thought the isolated pools would have fresh water in them :/

My fort is oceanside. I used brewery and plants for initial booze supply and then used underground lake (first oceanside fort had problems with fresh water too, had to abandon).

Well, 3/4ths of my stockpile are full of units of one seed. For some reason, they refuse to put them in barrels, even if its allowed in the stockpile settings and there are dozens of empty barrels. Dwarves are starting to starve.

Your post got me a bit worried, Deathworks.
You see, I have 5 years old fortress. And hateing idless workers, there is ALWAYS something to keep me dwarfs occupied.
I do have total population of 130 or so, being nice to immigrants.
But only 7 children and I do not remember any official marriages in my fort.

Hmmm, on the second thought, maybe I am not as much worried as excited to see how will population (probably) decline in the next 10 DF years.  :D

Rex_Nex: BAGS would be the answer, lad. This problems happens to me from time to time to, but just make 10 or so bags. Seeds go to bags, bags to barrels and suddenly a lot of space in ye food stockpile!  ;)

Does "bless you" mean "forgive you for your sins?"

You are right, Urist Imiknorris. May Armok forgive me.

Sinistar: "Father...I have sinned."

Sinistar: "Today I...I suggested a complete stranger how to manage food stockpiles better...I...I saved...54 dwarfs from starving to death."
Urist Imiknorris: "..."
Urist Imiknorris: "Your sin is grave, my child. But there is still hope for you."
Urist Imiknorris: "You see that lever on your left?"

I went with military. All I had up until now was my woodcutter.

Aand... Another deep pit. This means that all of my cavern layers (with the possible exception of the magma sea) are interlinked ON MY MAP. I'm just so lucky aren't I? I just hope for a lack of flying forgotten beasts.

Mmmhhh, you realize that the natural life span of dwarves is somewhere around 130 or so, I think? Given that dwarves start at your fortress at 50 to 90, 15 years of fortress may not be enough to see much effect - at least by natural causes (^_^;;

New fort started after my ocean disaster, this time trying to go with ramps instead of up/down stairs as I read it should help my fps.. so far so good, only need stairs to get down to the magma. Also, got my dungeon master modded so I get him straight from embark and managed to set up a sweet little war-leopard army to guard my depot/water-trap.
I'm not sure how or why, but I seem to have a tame elephant cub/kid? walking around the fort.
