I've gotten a good amount of animals by tying up a kitten in the caverns and surrounding it with cage traps.

I just realised I have a legendary diagnoser from a migrant wave.
Now I just want a mystery illness to affect a cat or something :D

Now spring of year 3, Abbeywhite was ambushed again by Goblins. 3 squads of archers, for the love of Armok! Death toll now stands at 27 dwarves to 7 gobbos, with more casualties possible from infection if my medical team doesn't get its act together...

Down in the caverns, Deler and Lokum have stockpiled food, and are walling off a secure area, protected to the East by a large pool, beyond which roam Trolls and all manner of other beasties...

A moody dwarf just produced a blue shield, encrusted with black diamond and a depiction of a bronze colossus having a scuffle with an elf, in which the former emerged victorios.

I'm currently pondering how somebody can build a floodgate from a single gem.

I just went mad with boredom and nothing to fight in a 15fps fort, gathered up all my masterpiece furniture and decked it out with the accumulated heap of gems found after four years of mining.
Wealth bumped from 7 to 10 million, thinking I should fixup my fortress entrance/defenses for the inevitable attacks
175 dwarves, spring yr5
450 animals (50 loose)

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

You probably have the same problem I had in my best fort. No goblin civ access. That one was my best fort too.

Edit :
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I got too greedy in my quest for adamintine. It's like that all the way down. Also, my choice to make my origanol dwarves all masons saved me there. Plus the fact the miner decided not to go dump stone. Yay for good choices saving legendary miners. And dangerous terrain job cancels! And no, I didn't see the magma there as it was an unexplored part of the magma sea. The amount of "You've struck (insert rock here)" might have made me not notice the mamga if I wasn't so lucky.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I currently have two dwars walking back and forth between a masterpiece breastplate and the baracks, seemingly unable to put it on. It's pissing me off to no end really.

Did you just reclaim a fortress that was taken by goblins?
If so, the goblins will be friendly to newcomers... so you can just slaughter them at will and chuck the bodies outside.

Otherwise, chances are some goblin will come along looking for trade or something, which you can then brutalize and hang from a spike out front as a declaration of your taste in humanoids.
