You could also make a stock of platinum crutches in case of accidents, and sell all the wooden crutches off so the dorfs don't get them by mistake. Platinum crutches really make excellent bludgeoning weapons.

Your dwarves will feel like real pimps while they walk around with their platinum crutches.

all these suggestions are real stark reminders of how empty the game actually is

Just trying to survive in a haunted reanimating biome. Trying to draw all the undead out of cavern layer 1 so I can get some use out of it. Currently 36 trapped out of 119 😅

Made an interesting, but ultimately useless discovery. If a murky pond freezes over, and you dig it out, you can smooth the ice ground below it. This creates "level ice". Useless because it thawed shortly thereafter and became normal murky pond again.

I just found an actual reason to trade : I'm going to sell my infinite gold goblets, food, and trash clothes in exchange for the written works of other civilizations, as these are the only items I can't replicate in my fort

I had to cut down some apple trees to increase morale.

Why? A combination of using pastures for foraging, and live combat training nearby.  :)
Or more precisely:
  • Squads are training in the courtyard to avoid cave adaption.
  • The same courtyard has a large pasture + foraging area.
  • There are lots of fruit trees, so dwarves are using stepladders.
  • Random caged animals are released for the training squads to kill.
  • The fighting makes the penned animals flee, - at times up the stepladders.
  • Fruit collecting dwarves move the stepladder.
  • Cows and sheep die of hunger up in the branches.
  • Dwarves visiting my statue garden also had the view of rotting cow carcasses in the apple trees.
I LOVE THIS GAME.

careful, that screenshot has gained over $100k in value, then subsequently lost $98k, since you posted it.

You've got yourself the eighth wonder of the world right there, you should capture it and put it on display in the fortress, I'm sure nothing will go wrong.

My fortress Torchsyrup draws in many foreign visitors, mostly there to visit our famous tavern, the Trustworthy Ram-Room.  Some come for the library or the temples.

I recently got into a war with another Dwarven civilization.  Their king wound up being killed by one of my squads on a Raze mission.  Before my squad returned, it was announced that one of the bards in the Ram-Room had become the new Queen of that civ (after polite discussion with local rivals).  She's still listed as one of my citizens.  My own civilization's Queen is also present, so now there are two Queens in my fortress.

Some ideas I'm considering:
* Frame the foreign queen for a crime and chain her up somewhere interesting.
* Build her palace right next to my Queen's, so that it's like my fortress is the capital of two unified empires.
* Try to get her to marry the Queen's son, so that their child might inherit both Kingdoms.
* I have the means to make my Queen a necromancer (and she desires immortality), so maybe the other queen could become some sort of undead servant

Always open to suggestions!

If someone dies and is brought back to life, they still lose their positions. So you couldn't keep her as an undead servant. I'd be interested in seeing if you could marry queen #2 to queen #1's son.
