Tantrum spiral. Reason: Ambushes.

Oh god even the chief medical dwarf, who is supposed to be helping the wounded, not making things worse, is tantruming along with the Captain of the guard.

Oh, and to top it all off: New forgotten beast.

It could have suffocated after one of those dwarves landed a good punch on its cephalothorax or abdomen or something. Recently someone had a little girl own a GCS in a single punch, so they seem to be a lot more fragile this time around.

OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD ANOTHER FORGOTTEN BEAST!

Urgh, as if the tantrum spiral wasn't enough.

The Circumstantial Omen of Doom, my new fort, just had a cave-in that injured my 4 miners, one with a broken hand, one with a broken spine, another with a broken skull, and the last with both legs broken.

This happened in one collapse. Here's hoping the medical dwarf/carpenter can fix things before we run out of food.

Whelp, my fortress was doomed, so I decided rather than wait for the forgotten beasts/tantrum spiral to slowly do their dirty deed, I decided to go the quick way and open up DFhack. I then dumped magma and then water over my fort. My fort is now completely covered in obsidian and water, while the internals are filled in magma.

Well, hope my next fort goes a little better than that. :P

Since I've only been able to make Iron armour my small military force got heavily damaged taking out two ambushes. Fortunately my Legendary Dining Room seems to have stopped any bad mood.

However, as another Dwarf Caravan came into sight, a siege occured made up of about 15 Goblin Bowmen and a Jabberer, who then killed most of the Caravan, though I luckily didn't need anything.

A Giant then appeared who I hoped would hurt the Goblins, but they just used him as target practice and he died.

On a nice note, I have a new gold bed with a lovely engraving of a crossbowman killing a Goblin.

There was a goblin ambush composed of a single maceman squad. 5 of the 7 were caught in cage traps, the remaining two ran headlong into my 2-man militia before they were actually in position. The first soldier, a novice swordsdwarf in full armor was brutally beaten for a minute or so until he died. Next my militia commander, also a novice swordsman, adequate fighter and shield user, and fully decked out in steel platemail, with 7 kills to her name (in the training arena of course), charged in and took a mace to the face and died on the spot, a one-hit kill. 4-5 more troops arrived behind him and the actual fight began. One of the two recruits died, the other was badly injured with many broken bones, nobody else was harmed. They killed one goblin and the other retreated into the cage traps. That's 3;7, with my militia victorious only because there were cage traps to save their scrawny asses. If 3 goblins had made it through the traps, they probably would have been able to slaughter all 10 of my men.

What's the average skill level of invaders and caravan guards anyway? clearly it must be miles above novice.

First (40d) fort on a glacier, so of course I'm reacting to shimmying along the catastrophe curve by going "screw that" to basic survival, and instead aiming for the most redundant thing ever: central heating! Mostly, it's just to test my understanding of pumps, but channels have been looped through all bedrooms and common areas and are currently being paved over with magma safe materials. It'll probably turn out to be less "pleasantly warm floors" and more "dwarf crisped by skillet-like floor", but whatever. Oh for the ability to heat water.

Messing around with magma for the first time.  Still haven't produced a !!dorf!!, but I've discovered the wonders of not having to worry about fuel, i.e. SMELT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.  HEY URIST, BRING ME THAT KITTEN, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN SMELT THAT TOO.

I'm establishing an outdoor farm setup with some farmers designated to only work outside except under a Defcon 2 when all Dwarves are ordered inside. Meanwhile on the inside I'm clearing out all the dirt walls and floors and establishing some very nice stone walls and floors to make my dwarves happier and make it easier on my eyes. Also trying to figure out how to build my meeting hall with a well..

Working with 40d--currently digging a moat around my entrance.  I am also building bridges across the moat, with workshops and storage in the middle, surrounded by living quarters.  The dwarfs will have to commute across the bridges to work.  I think I might need a few covered bridges so dwarfs can get to and from work during sieges.

I have one possessed dwarf screaming for shells (don't have any).  One goblin ambush was easily repelled.  One Snatcher was hurled across the moat into the fortress by my elite wrestlers.

The clearcutting of the forests continues apace.

Hope to get the moat to the bottom Z-level soon.  Then I can fill it with spikes.

Lucky me, another siege! 48 Goblins, 7 Trolls and 48 Jabberers.

Fortunately they can't get in and I have plenty of resources. I think.
