Just suffered through a siege of Hellfire Imps that, again, prevented me from meeting up with the autumn caravan.

In related news, 4 crossbow dwarves in 2 archery towers outside of the gates are a very effective defence.

That's exactly what I did! They're there specifically to die in their wooden homes before the invaders get to the stone walls of the fortress and my military.

Sometimes I send a squad out to heroically defend the citizens, sometimes not. Depends on how "unfortunate" I want the siege to be.

I'm trying to do this properly, with an actual perimeter wall, archer towers, a little patches of farmland by the houses, inn, small chapel, etc. All human soldiers who want to join my fort will be on detail there.

Playing with the Fortress Defence mod, and I was just besieged by White Tigermen. At almost the same time I discovered an ambush of Frog Demons. The Frogs and Tigers saw each other, and promptly killed each other all with only one of my marksdwarves having fired any shots off.

...

Yay! Free weapons to melt down, since all I've been able to produce on my own is copper!

I love it when two enemies kill each other off.

I had one fort where a web-spitting FB got in and killed everyone except one miner I locked in the butcher's shop. Then a poison gas FB got in too. They fought, the web-spitting beast barely emerging triumphant. Then it suffocated from the other beast's gas. Let me tell you, that felt amazing.

After a Naga invasion, and seeing the entire area in front of my fort get laid waste to my marksdwarves picking the snake-men off one by one, I have a questions for you all.

What's the best way to clean up this bloody outdoor battlefield?

Best way is magma.

Easiest way is paved roads. (Not sure if dirt roads work.)

Construction of the new wind farm is finished, so theirs now enough power for the magma pump stack. Construction of the pump stack itself is going nicely, if a bit slowly. I've walled all my wind-farms off, so they won't be burned down again. I was attacked by a very small siege of just 5 crossbow-goblins, my military killed them without a scracth. And so it seems things have finally settled back down in my fortress, but for how much longer?

My metalsmith just got a mood and made an artifact bronze anvil.

Well done, metalsmith. Well done. You made me an anvil that I cannot use...

You know I did not actually check simply because it was made of bronze and not iron or steel.

Forge Yes, Magma Forge No.

Double check this, because artifact items are indestructible.

My tavern keeper was just found dead of dehydration in the middle of the tavern. Unsurprisingly for a tavern, the place is full of booze. I'm totally mystified.

The booze is all unforbidden and accessible, (everyone else is drinking it) he wasn't standing in a blocked location either. He just decided to drop dead right in front of everyone, what an attention seeker

EDIT: Might need some help here. Let's say there's a forgotten beast made of diamond with "noxious secretions" that cause instant necrosis swimming in my only water source. Is the water still safe to drink? My well is down there...

But the anvil is still not tagged as magma safe? I would assume the building component requirements are not overridden when making the check, but maybe they are.

Wiki has this to say:

Quote
Note that the anvil used to build a magma forge does need to be magma-safe—normally anvils can only be made from magma-safe materials, but strange moods can create artifact anvils which cannot be used at a magma forge (or, in the case of metals like zinc, at any forge).
