Bembul is now the champion of Steeldrinkers. I now imagine training sessions may go something like this:

A dead bone carver turned into a ghost so I inscribed a slab for him. It said he was killed by a pig tail shoe.
I checked the game log, it appeared he was fighting a hungry head when dumping tattered clothes, both dropped into the magma pit and were hit by various junks before melting away.

Speaking of permanent residents - what do you guys do with mercenaries who have been wounded in combat to the point where they are no longer combat effective?

Long story short, a human bowman mercenary who is a permanent resident at my fort had an illfated encounter with a minotaur. It gored him in both eyes, broke his legs and scratched his hand off. So he is a one-handed, blind vet with two gimpy legs. As you can imagine he is not exactly in mint condition anymore, but he still practices in the barracks with the fresh recruits as a sort of super-gnarly drill sargeant. His bandages aren't even off yet.

I need some ideas for what to do with this guy. For now I let him train and leave him out of the selection when the squad is sent out, but it takes some micromanagement. I can't put him to work in the civilian sector since he is a merc.

A lot of people keep separate "training squads" made up of wounded veterans and green recruits, so that when they lose an active-duty soldier they have skilled replacements on hand.

My goal is to make a lot of coffins.

I knew it was going to be an unforgettable fight.

I like it. He is now in charge of scaring the rookies straight.

On a further note, I purchased a codex called "First Clusterstruck, then the world!" from the human caravan. I got a bit of a giggle out of the title and the unfortunately named hamlet, so I went into the legends to find that it had been written by a human abductee who later became a ranger for the local goblin civilization, then gave it all up to become a dancer.

Then he met what I can only assume is a goblin Steven Segal called Etar Laborspattered the Organized March of Adoring. He has 84 confirmed named kills of which the aspiring dancer was the latest. A copy of his book made it to my fort somehow. It will be diligently copied down by scribes and enjoyed by generations of dwarves, barring some kind of fun incident.

Started an evil fort. Was attacked by raven corpses, but fought them off. A cloud of dust, which caused death by paralysis, killed a pack of hippos. Then they got back up. One chased a cat into the fort. The dwarves all died or ran... right into the dust cloud.

Damn it.

Meanwhile in Kobold Kamp...having discovered WHY I wasn't getting any migrants, I'm gonna hope and pray I can get some soldiers before the goblins decided to say hello.

EDIT 20th of early autumn. At last, migrants.

The human diplomat showed up...
Wait, he's a serpent man.

I checked his inventory and it appeared all are master work except some human bone accessories.

A large white snake with the arms and torso of a man. These creatures are evil and live far underground.

Edit*

Out of curiosity, I checked him using gm-editor and found he was also a vampire.
Interesting, never seen an animal people vampire before.

Edit*2

I killed him.
His two body guards didn't have a problem with that. Good.

In my (haukyngr) fort, my chieftan (mayor) made a ban on exportation of amulets, and I also crushed a dude and a she-wolf with my atom smasher. ...It was an accident, I swear.

Some random fruit picker went missing, presumed fallen in the volcano based on how the master-work ladder he was carrying ended up destroyed.  I open up legends mode, and a Dragon is credited with destroying the ladder. Confused, I conduct an experiment. A plant gathering zone is set up on the volcano brim, and a bunch of peons are sent to pick there. Sure enough, one falls in and reaches the bottom layer of the magma sea. As soon as he touches the "lava flow" level, his master-work clothing is destroyed, causing a notification. Again, legends mode states the same dragon is responsible for burning the clothing.

How... odd. Anyone else encountered this?

Most people find this from merchants trading masterworks. I hadn't realized ALL masterwork destruction was bugged in this way though.
