Stormford - Called simple Vedr otherwise. Surrounded on all sides by all manner of brutish races - beastmen, frog demons, and worse - set upon a river in the shadow of a cave. This is a rare find for me, and always one I like to have since it gives me a way through aquifers.

As they unpack, the norsemen look up and see hellspawn in their midsts upon the cave, greenskinned frogs that walk as men do, and tower over them. This could not be allowed. With haste, they set up a smelter and forge, that the three warriors among them - Hersir Darradr with Warriors Obel and Sax - Could give to them death from harsh steel edged blades.

We travel south to seek challengers, and so we find them.

EDIT: With steel blades and iron mail, the warriors armed themselves. The cave above housed the creatures, and several bore arms of copper. Already they felled one with an axe-blow, but an unarmed creature makes for poor sport.

To Victory, or To the Hall, they march to face these foul things.

Related to previous post: what's the best method for cleaning a reanimating biome of the previous settlers? One or two militiadwarves don't seem to be enough to fight more than one zombie at a time. (Shoutout to the giant lorikeet corpses for showing up in flocks of five to seven.)

The warriors assault, and the last of the unarmed demons is slain, its head severed after having both legs disabled. Upon reaching the cave summit, all of the armed frogmen lashed out, cutting Obel's hand (thankfully not disarming her,) and broke the ribs and arm of the Hersir, who despite the wounds fought on and fatally ran through the offending greenskinned monster, her steel gotland sword ripping its upper spinal tissue to shreds, and amid its biting, she soon sent its head rolling away. Sax was nowhere to be found until the frogs lay slain, Obel and the Hersir claiming thier third kills each.

Also, my queen just invented cave blob rugby

Holy. My queen is frigging steven seagall. Some nice aikido moves there. Also the first time ever I saw a wrestling move (grab) be cyan instead of purple.

Having a long peaceful period because an echidna can't leave the map. It will roll into a ball when dwarves are near. Unfortunately, it's near the tavern.
Two dwarves actually have high stree value (21k and 22k), I guess this is quite rare in currently version.

Nope, not some kind of modded decapitating monsters. Just 10 giant black mambas.

Are they displaying the flashing red arrow of doom yet? Because that sounds like WAY beyond the point where it should show up.

I was refraining from building temples, libraries and taverns, having much other interesting  things to do. But when the zombies came, I turtled up and decided to give them a chance (locations, not zombies), building traps in meantime - and my pacifistic dwarves have to do something. Then a visitor come, and a king consort no less. I learned some things this way:
1. Siege of 49 zombies (mix of goblins and elves), including 48 armed to teeth, is no deterrent to visitors.
2. No way of access is also no deterrent.
3. Dwarves are stupid enough to allow gay kings to marry their own sex, which is against the whole idea of feudalism (at least with such rules of breeding as in DF).

The king's husband of course ended as he would have ended anyway, that is under an axe. Except executioners are usually more professional than that zombie, and aim for the neck instead of cleaving the head.

Somehow I suspect only the most blackout-drunk of dwarves would make that objection within earshot of the king. Especially if he's got the balls to visit a zombie-infested hellhole. o3o

Of course. To hear out a constructive criticism you need to be a SMART ruler, monarch, boss, CEO, leader etc. Dwarf king would request a hangman during the first sentence.

Are you sure the ruler/your King Consort's spouse is a dude? I ask because I've noticed that the Legends Viewer labels the ruler a "king" without regard to their gender.

Gender isn't taken into account when determining inheritance in DF, so "King Consort" is also the title given to the husband of a ruling Queen.

I just had a migrant wave come in along with the monarch!  I was expecting the queen to be a goblin, since my civ has been ruled by goblins for the past couple of centuries, but, as it turned out, the queen was indeed a dwarf, probably some long lost heir to the throne or something like that.

In addition one of the migrants had as a pet a kobold child!  It appears to be friendly, but it doesn't show up under the animals tab in the stocks menu.  It did have the option to toggle butcher on or off when I [v]iewed it, so I'm not quite sure what is going on.  Either way, we will probably be eating some tasty kobold roasts in a little while.  :D

I was gonna say, just in case double-check the actual gender of the consot. King consort is generally male, queen consort is generally female. Essentially the consort is used like an adjective. :V

My tundra fort's surroundings seem quite, too quite. The embark screen said "ere the giant wolves get hungry" but the only savage creature I've seen was an osprey woman. The animals that come by are ospreys, ravens, white storks, and a single stoat jill. (I knda wan't those damn keas.) I haven't put any carnivore bait out to see if there are any, but there are better things to do. Since there are no trees on the surface, all my wood supplies are going to come from underground. (The minimum cavern water is 1 so plants will always grow.)

Magma is not an issue, I settled next to a volcano for a reason. I will cover the top with (constructed) wood floors with some grates so the smelters don't have to worry about fire imp attacks. And talking about fire imps, they should be easy to farm with a volcano but what to do with 'em once I catch dozens. Live training?

3. Dwarves are stupid enough to allow gay kings to marry their own sex, which is against the whole idea of feudalism (at least with such rules of breeding as in DF).

At least he isn't executing anyone for being gay and having to hide in the armored closet for their entire lives like real life. Not like there are any consequences for royalty if they found to be gay.....

EDIT: I take back the no giant carnivores since a giant snowy 0wl appeared not too long after the (only) caravan arrived for the first time.

Yes they are.
One of them was a baby several days ago.
I didn't know it was possible for a baby to be stressed.

"Magama...I want booze"

Edit*

Oops, I traded all food for armors and cats and now they are all hunting for vermins!
I quickly slaughtered some cats and let the cook roast some seeds.
