Next elven caravan brought me another female gigantic panda. Good. I can assign it to another dwarf to give it a structural happy to have given food thought.

I was messing around with the Temple system, and i accidentally designated my wagon meeting area as a worship center. Now my dwarves are singing songs to the 13 yer old wagon. Ive decided to "roll" with it (Ny'yuck!)

This latest forgotten is taking so long to path into my fortress that a miner has entered a strange mood and made an artifact obsidian millstone (time to reconfigure the windmill), while this FB still hasn't found the staircase yet. In fact, I don't even think I can say he is pathing into the fortress, he's just wandering the cavern randomly. Boy am I ever in trouble when he does find the staircase though.....

Just met the Circus.
I was digging a non-hollow candy bar, and I received the news the Circus was in town. I thought my settlement was doomed. I decided to close the digging tunnel, thinking that leaving candy to the demons was a fair enough price for salvation.
Then I discovered that I "simply" had dug over a deep pit in the Circus, so the HFS was not aroused in the direction of my miners.
I then decided to block the bottom level of the candy shaft, by replacing the up/down stairs with a built Up Stairs (it should block the HFS, right?). Three Steam Demons then flew in the level while the miner was destroying the stair and begun to harass him. They didn't harm him, though, leaving me time to send the milita down to kill them. I didn't suffer one casualty, while the demons were slain. Two by my Militia Captain, the third I will need to slab him in order to discover the killer.
Now the Circus is closed, and I know the location of the two Hollow Candies.

That's remarkably lucky they were made of steam, stuff made out inorganic gaseous/liquid properties tends to just fall apart, if they were made out of flesh i think you would have been in real settlement ending trouble.

The beast made it's way into the fort, but I'll tell that tragic story later when I have more time.

My old nemesis the crundle has returned....say, wild animals count as "notable kills" if they've killed livestock, right? If so, I have a plan for giving all my military dwarfs cool epithets....

The elves just sold me two moghoppers. If I can extract from them, this'll be the first time my dwarves will have mog juice since 2006. I think I remember capturing moghoppers with animal traps back in the 2d version, either over the underground river or over the chasm, forgot which.

EDIT: nope, no mog juice. I guess it doesn't work on tame moghoppers

Also, does this forum require the Java plugin or something? The formatting and image attachment buttons aren't doing anything... I'm using Edge, so maybe that's it.

Formatting buttons use Javascript to insert markup into the textarea, but not Java.  You can also just type the BBcode markup segments yourself, instead of clicking the buttons.

I was thinking of using pigs actually, but cats would be cheaper, quicker and more efficient now that you mention it. However, I should mention that I don't want to BREED any crundles for this purpose; I just want to use captured wild ones.

But enough of that. Photobucket isn't working yet, but I don't need it to tell you all the details of the monster that killed 10 of my dwarfs. Oxut was a huge feathered dimetrodon with spindly antennae, a bloated body and fiery breath. He wandered around the caverns for quite some time, slaying a poor innocent wild cave crocodile as he did so. It wasn't until I mined and channeled out a route to a staircase for him that he reached any of the staircases. Once that happened, of course, he killed 8 civilians, including a prospective scholar (I really need to get those guys into their militia phase) and my favorite animal trainer, earning the title "Oxut Crevicemines the Hollow Burial of Shadow".

Now, I'd given the order to have my militia attack the beast as soon as it had arrived, but it had been in the lake and thus inaccessible to begin with. My militia took time off to pray, and so it was my militia commander Thob ended up facing the beast alone save for a helpful hunter taking shots at the beast. A legendary warrior in every way, decked out with steel masterworks, wielding a masterwork steel battleaxe, he let not the beast nor its fiery breath strike him as he hacked at its right rear foot, upper torso and twice his lower torso! However, he still melted for some reason.....perhaps because he was standing on burning moss that set his clothing afire. Though gushing blood, Oxut caused my Thob and the hunter horrible deaths.

And then comes along the wrestler (though he soon became an axelord) Astesh Painttrade. He is a father of 3, and his dead wife was one of my spearmasters from way back before I gave everyone armor (killed by goblins, no doubt). He has trained long and is just as legendary as any of my other veteran axedwarfs, but his only kills before this had been a giant dingo and a kingsnake. This was his trial by fire.

His first attack?

He fractured Oxut's skull with a mere pommel strike.

He dealt another impressive blow to his head soon after, that time with the proper sharp bit of the battle axe, ripping the muscle open, fracturing the skull again, tearing a tendon and opening an artery. He crushed his left eye with a slap from his axe, fractured the upper spine's bone with a mere punch, cut off his right front and left rear feet, fractured its left false and right true ribs and just made a bloody mess of its torso and limbs before decapitating the beast. That's dwarven vengeance for you.

Orbpolish was made militia commander, and a new recruit was drafted in.

Come to think of it, using cats might not work. It depends if their [AT_PEACE_WITH_WILDLIFE] tag applies to crundles or not
