Hmmmm, just had two human Lady Consorts in the latest goblin siege. What's up with that? One had a human name and the other a goblin name. I captured the one with the gobbo name. I'm curious about how this happened. I didn't record the other one's name so I don't know if it's worth opening up the legends mode.

Open legends (even in fortress mode with Ctrl-Shift-L using DFHack). If the other human died on the battlefield, you should be able to find his body using the stocks menu (human body parts, etc). Select it, and then you can use DFHack command deathcause to find out how he died, which should tell you his name IIRC.

The one with the goblin name was probably the descendant of a captive.

A Human Lady is not an equivalent of a king, but of a noble (baron/duke/count/etc). The human king is called a lawgiver. So having more than one Lady Consort is not out of the ordinary, unless they both come from the same human town.

I think that's not the link you intended to link. You linked the post to itself.

EDIT: ah good you fixed it. Good link there. What a coincidence, raven corpses sure seem to love Christmas

Starting a 42.03 fort (Wasn't ecstatic about the aquifer location I had in my 42.02 fort).
Embarked with aquifer.  Forgot to bring stone.  And despite the embark including 3 intersecting biomes, there isn't a path around the aquifer.

Lost one dwarf prospecting for paths around the aquifer, migrants brought 2 adults and 3 kids.

Waited for the dwarven traders to come by, and they brought 2 bars of metal and 0 stone, so I'm buying up metal goods I can to smelt down into bars and make some mechanisms from.  Don't know if glass works for mechanisms, but I bought that up too.  Was planning to cheat my steel supply (its a slow process to get rolling, so if I don't find the right ores in good supply I don't really mind cheating it)

My fort is going to get some bad rep back in the homeland, as the triumvir consort to one of the nation's three leaders was sent as the inspector (liaison), and was succinctly killed by a giant undead rattlesnake. It then proceeded to slaughter the entire caravan's guards, and a couple merchants.

On the bright side, we have wind! So I'm going to make a windmill in the middle of this desolate evil wasteland, because it'll be cool and we'll finally start producing paper.

Just have to find a viable opening in the zombie patrols for the fort's two most important workers to safely construct the thing.

EDIT: THREE performance troupes showed up on our doorstep and asked to live here. Absolutely absurd. I accepted in a heartbeat.

My current embark is right on the edge of a tropical swamp, so I get a lot of king snakes and have had a few war dogs die to them.  However, when I saw that a war dog had been found dead and read the combat report I got a bit more concerned.  Apparently a black mamba finished off the poor creature with a single venomous bite right before a clothier with no combat experience comes along and caves in the snake's head with a single blow. :o

Now that is gutsy.

My fort got another 250+ siege , similary to the other ones i defeated them all in battle with my 40 defenders at my entrance bridge with a couple of dead on my side.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But the cleaning will take so much time again, last siege i got several months of dwarves taking all the items to the dump zone in my atom smasher room.
I miss so much dfhack autodump command.

so spider cafe fort before the update had lack of a good meat resource and all the spiders were getting hungry up until we cage trapped a goat.
to celebrate the cafe replaced the wounded spider who got lock up in the center of the cafe with a dwarf.
then a giant cave spider wander in.

I sent my latest formed squad, with only miners with picks , and full leather armored to test what it is worth in 42.x and found out the hard way that leather armor is as useless as in the past when there's something serious around.

warning , not for the faint hearted
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
let's say the scene wasn't pretty at all, good that after 13 years my dwarves are all hardened against such thing.

of course the poor bugger died, but he was sadly unlucky because only a few seconds later another miner proved picks are still worthy weapons
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

conclusion, picks are still awesome but leather armor is still worthless.

I checked the identity of the Forgotten Beast slayer and it is Deler Konoszas
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Put like that it does not say much to you, but Deler Konoszas is the dwarven superhero of my fort !

Makes complete sense that he was the one destroying that Forgotten Beast :D

So, my fortress is currently saved about a day before a goblin siege. Unfortunately, the method I use to get my dwarves inside in time seems to crash my game, so... Dammit.  Basically, forcing them inside using a burrow, then deleting the burrow after sealing the world off seems to cause a massive, game-freezing lag spike.

are you adding civilians into burrows with the military Alert system or are you adding manually the civilians into the burrow from the burrow panel itself ?

Military alert. I don't really understand the system, so I use it as little and as simply as possible.

That's how i use it,

An example if i want all my civilians to get into my fortress, i have a burrow that is covering my fortress shape.
http://i.imgur.com/8RdSmmR.gif

And create my "Red Alert" in the military panel and only assign my specific burrow to that alert.
http://i.imgur.com/NgkUwIG.gif

This way i just switch the alert level from the default "Inactive" to my custom "Red Alert" when i need everyone inside.
Then i do not have to delete the burrow after that, once i close the entrance gate, i can simply give back the "Inactive" alert.

Give this a try, i have never had a crash with doing things that way.
