There are goblins hanging out in a murky pool. Even Goblins need their bath time I guess

According to the billion coins I minted to offer to the home caravan for lulz, my dwarves hail from the magical mountain nation known as New Zealand. Why? Because my dorfs' country has  a pair of Kiwi for thier symbol.

Humans came and went, and amidst the extra brew, I managed to secure a partisan for a migrant who dreams of becoming a legendary warrior. He must be a big son of a bitch, because he was able to use the thing one-handed.

Wait what? What size is a partisan in your mod? I'd assume it would be the size of a pike, that would indicate that the can vs can't wield bug has been fixed. Is this the case?

[TWO_HANDED:50000]
[MINIMUM_SIZE:30000]

Given that soldiers all seem to properly arrive with or without a shield depending on the weapon (I've stopped seeing idiot humans armed with greatswords trying to use them one-handed for example,) it might have been fixed. It says the dwarf is average in size, but I find it hard to believe.

Dwarves can't make the things on thier own and I was fully expecting him to not be able to take a shield. I was pleasantly surprised, but it may be due to mis-sizing on Stal's part.

Wasn't the vampire status supposed to be a secret ?

That's a bit ridiculous.

edit : and there's worse in case you didn't even paid attention to the list, even the tile of that diplomate clearly show he's a vampire !

And the stupid human bodyguards do not even react, and neither my dwarves military reacted ! that's so broken there, i had to manually set one of my squads to kill that unholy beast.

Every squad will be set up as so: One swordsman as the leader, two hammermen, two axemen, two spearmen, and a crossbowdwarf. Each member will have at least one dog to accompany them, the leaders having two and another war animal on top of that. Squads for smiths with full armour and two shields will be set up, with two dogs each and a single axedwarf and a crossbowdwarf for protection.
Prepare for fun of mixing melee and ranged units.

Haha... you just murdered a diplomat from the human civ  :)  Let the FUN begin  :)

Vampires usually end up as high nobles or leaders of various civilizations, since their social skills constantly improve over the centuries and they don't die.  Same for goblins.  This is why you will often see that the leader of dwarven civilizations is either a goblin, a necromancer, or a vampire.  Not dying is apparently good for career development... who knew?

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

I remember my dwarf king was a necromancer once. Nothing exciting happened, until he walked by my corpse filled ditch/short moat.... So many corpses in the moat... Luckily, it had fortifications for walls. I loved dropping things in the corpse moat.

In other news: Mixed dwarf squads worked perfectly. Crossbowdwarf shot fine, only he had ammo, everyone else did their job while he shot the kobold thief in the face from ten squares away.

Well, I then stand corrected! Still won't be employing mixed ranged and melee, just because the melee dudes get the job done with less fuss, but still. Awesome!  :D

well fun, i wouldn't call it that fun, on my world the human entity is nearly broken, they will only be able to bring few troops, and with all my shock troops being legendary-level and my marksdwarves close, those humans trying to avenge their unholy monster will lead them to share the beast fate.

Would be deserved for them as they sold themselves to that vampire and allowed him to claim innocent lives, perfectly knowing he was one :D

During a siege, a baby got stranded outside and mauled almost to death by goblins, barely hanging on and constantly falling unconscious and waking back up. But now that it's going to die for certain, the 20ish goblins who ganged up on it are... leaving it alone. Instead of mercifully putting this poor baby out of its misery, they're flocking around it waiting for it to die like some special event. Goblins are harsh.
