As protection, it's terrible. But if you give it yo a dwarf who likes dressing up, he'll enjoy it immensely.

A Giant Cave Spider showed up and found some fisherdwarf who was collecting webs

The Fisherdwarf died; but the first I knew of this was when I saw an 'S' on the map. A dead 'S'.

A Fisherdwarf battled a Giant Cave Spider to death with it's bare hands; punching through to it's brain with it's last breath. Admittedly it looks like there were a couple of pals helping; but it was clearly the fisherdwarf who killed it; since this is the spider's log.

Remember when I was trying to trap elves into an arena pit, and they would just avoid the great trap by climbing along the sidewall?

Well, after a few improvements to the trap, my dreams have finally been realised:

Hahahaha! The elves stood no chance!

The animals were more lucky however, and fled with great haste when the drawbridges were opened. But with the military waiting in ambush, it was to no use:

The werebeast strikes fast and ruthlessly, elves perish in mere seconds! Without the aid of scientific preparations, the werebeast is too strong for the elves to make werebeasts out of them. Only the animals are able to endure quite a number of attacks from the beast, but they can't transform into werebeasts themselves, can they?

An engraver is, "exasperated when caught in the rain", "annoyed when choking on dust underground", and, "confused after being knocked out in a cave-in."

Was the confusion from the concussion or his weakening grasp of reality?

The Baron just got killed by a werebear. He bravely took one for the team when it showed up while he was outside.

Not even an "Unfortunate Acident". A real genuine accident. He was ok - he just used to mandate production of Gauntlets.

Conventional wisdom would suggest no. Really, it isn't any more ridiculous for a guinea pig to transform into an elephant than for a dwarf to transform into an elephant.


And in my Fort, there are days where everything goes well, then there are days when a hairy crocodile that breaths fire emerges from the depths to burn dwarves. RIP C. Dishmab, you put up one hell of a fight, when you really should've aimed for a quick flight. Still, Dishmab did manage to wound its lungs with a bolt before perishing to the magma. A good Dwarf was lost, and it took her horrifically long to succumb to her burn wounds. To add salt to the wounds, a masterwork flask made by the long dead Urdim was also lost to the magma sea. And I can't even bury Dishmab, or even slab Dishmab, no one else knows she even died.

Riddledfences recently endured its first siege: ten goblins with various weapons. Our four strongest military dwarves tore through them like butter with only one minor wound.

Unfortunately, it seems like most of my dwarves are complete and total pansies when it comes to seeing dead sentient creatures. They keep breaking down while trying to retrieve the dead goblins' gear. Even the four dwarves who did the deed are totally horrified.

To cap it off, one of my recent recruits, who still has a child with her, is depressed because I made her stand out in the rain to guard the depot from Giant Keas. (Armok damn them to the abyss.) How long do dwarves continue to remain depressed as of 0.40? What can I do to help? I already took her squad off of training... she keeps going to the mayor (my legendary speardwarf) to complain.

What would it be like to live in a world that was copy/pasted? Would we even notice? If not, how many times have we switched celestial harddrives or whatever?

My first fort in a while, Steamplains, turns out to be built in a world with extinct goblins, and at peace with everything else but some kobolds.  I'm still early on, and not large enough to attract megabeasts yet, so I figured I had all the time in the world to set up defenses against anything but a few random animals. 

My defense entirely consists of a few marksdwarves in leather and some war dogs.  I had a quicky archery tower set up near my main entrance, and my main entrance has a few stonefalls and cage traps set up. 

My "serious defenses" consist of walls with passages with cage traps in them, more aimed at capturing some of the savage wildlife than fighting off sieges that aren't likely coming, but since I figure I have time, I have only covered half my map with these.  After all, my main threat will be titans, and I've really got to focus on getting my magma forges and metal industry running, plus capturing some GCS before I really worry about things like those.  I'm only at 40 dwarves. 

In fact, I partially tore down my marksdwarf tower to rebuild it all in stone, rather than its initial wood.

Well, with Earthdwellings, got a bunch of migrants (two more peasants being made into miners!), and am starting to plan out how I'm going to get the wonderfully lightweight, yet deadly metal near the magma sea.  (Let's just say my figurative "testing stick" is an engraver and leave it at that.)

Also, the elves arrived, and supplied me with some giant animals, namely a giant dingo, a breeding pair of giant flying squirrels, and a female giant sparrow.  (If only I could name stray animals...)
