AxeRim is approaching its Tenth Anniversary, and all is well.  Work on the flooding entrance trap is nearing completion - all that remains is to remove the excess stone and to place the last four floodgates, linkages, and fortifications.  Our leader, Id, who previously referred to himself as "Merchant Prospector" (whatever the devil that means), has chosen the new title "Director" in honor of the occasion.  He's organized a party in the MillRoom to celebrate.  (The MillRoom being our legendary dining room featuring an artifact millstone.)   It is widely accepted that his "helpers" are waiting for their children to reach adulthood so they can vote the egomaniac out of office.

The human merchants recently filed a complaint about the "Walk of Heroes," the statue-lined and engraved road leading to the Trade Depot.  The five mile long work of art was created to honor and remember the 1350+ victims of our local Titan, most of whom were consumed by the beast's body of flame.  The humans felt the number of statues of human victims being burned and mutilated was disproportionately large when compared to representation of the other races.  They took special exception to one statue by the Trade Depot, claiming the depiction of the victim having his brain boiled away was too graphic for any memorial.  And they kindly asked our dwarfs to put on some clothes, even offering some scraps of their own.  The militia took a break from sparring to escort them from AxeRim.

One of our weaponsmiths has become rather cryptic, just standing by the Well Chamber demanding "A Workshop!"  It's a bit befuddling as we have at least one of every workshop our craftsdwarfs know how to produce, even non-Magma versions of the Magma shops.  The "Director" is attempting to discern exactly what "A Workshop" really means, so that another can be built in hopes of winning the weaponsmith's favour.  At least he doesn't want turtle shells.

Speaking of the Well Chamber, our masons have begun work on the remainder of the statues needed to complete all ten levels of it.  They've promised to carve fewer renditions of Id "devouring a cheese" and Id "admiring a flute," and include more variety, such as Id "weeping" and "being rejected by the dwarfs."

The next year looks to be very momentous for AxeRim.  New bedrooms are being constructed and it's expected that the Imperial Migration Control Department of "The Molten Tomes" will allow more dwarfs to relocate to AxeRim.  Our militia is increasing in strength and skill (Four Legendary AxeDwarfs!) and is expected to double in size to sixteen.  Four more recruits are already in training.  There's a mayoral election approaching that has the entire fort buzzing.  And apparently we need new clothing for the existing populace... it appears their immodesty is a bit unsettling to the outsiders.

I love massive sieges

That's corpses of goblins, orcs, giant rats, cave crawlers, giant olms, giant bats, trolls, an unfortunate kobold that emerged from ambush at the wrong time, 1 goblinized dwarf, and 1 demon civ leader. (and unfortunately 2 of my own dracon military) All but about 15 of them from a single season of sieging.

Maybe I should add a 3rd or 4th sieging civ so I get even more hostiles on map at once.

Huh, yea looks like some of it is clay loam.  I forgot the map is clay loam, despite building the stockpiles into the stuff.  It is all blood around the bodies though.  3 full pages of blood of various critters on every tile of the bridge alone.  Let alone what blends in with the clay elsewhere.

I wasn't feeling too great about Clashworks.  Everyone was starving and thirsty, my first miner had trapped himself underground and died, my industry and farms still weren't started, the dwarves were being harassed by Zombie One-Humped Camels, and the yellow sand was really ugly.  But then somebody got a mood, made a lead mace, and became a legendary weaponsmith.  This cheered me up, and I'm feeling much better about the Somber Labors now.

Just lost a fort literally 5 minutes away from my drowning pool being finished. Bloody elves didn't bring ONE SINGLE GUARD with them in their caravan.

I'm still playing 40d because 31.08 won't run at anything above a crawl on my main computer.

I started a new game yesterday modded with CivForge and using MayDay's graphic pack. Apparently the two packs don't get along some how because except for carps all the fish in my rivers look like drumsticks.

I got a pretty good embark location; right at the joining point of two rivers, so anything that wants to attack (that can't fly) me can only come from one direction. I've also carved out a channel between the two rivers to make an island surrounded by three rivers, so the only way onto the island is to cross my bridge. It's pretty self-sufficient, there's plenty of bushes and trees on the surface and two layers of soil/sand below ground. I've haven't got much metal yet but I have found a small cache of Native Aluminum.

I still haven't finished my first year, so I've only had one caravan but one thing the dwarves had was a chicken (actually a rooster). Once I get my rooster a mate, I'm going to build a coop up top and let them start breeding.

That dwarf should be the leader of the military.

He's the only one with 'stones'.

My fortress now holds 8 artifacts. The most recent two are both giant cave spider silk turbans. How unlikely is that?

Pictures in spoilers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As you can see, my dorfs are rather fond of menacing spikes. So much so that I have an artifact TOY miniforge that menaces with spikes of native platinum. And fiber.

A Forgotten Beast just arrived through the caverns.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Its name translates to "silty sin-crevice of thieves". I should beware its "spittle". I hope the dorfs didn't catch anything while butchering the thing.

I accidentally let my game unpaused. Not good.

Apparently a troll came up from the caverns - I didn't even know I had dug down there yet. It killed my doctor.

I've been working on a new fort for a couple weeks. It's mostly in a "good" biome with some overlap into neutral. What can I say, my ears are just slightly pointed resulting in a disinclination towards Fun.

So anyway, two seasons in, I get the message:

Quote
The hill titan Ayilo Elifaotira Fidaleņemeni has come!  A gigantic one-eyed mockingbird.  It has two broad horns and it moves about carelessly.  Its periwinkle feathers are long and broad.  Beware its webs!

Uh oh.

This is the first time I've ever had a megabeast arrive at a fort, and the only time I've EVER seen a titan in any game mode but Legends.

Also, I recognize the name immediately: this is the "deity" worshipped by my (retired) adventurer. The humans have a temple to it!

So long story short, after sealing up the fort for a long time, watching this beast fly around the mountain tops doing nothing, recalling reading that titans won't necessarily attack in good biomes, and opening the gates only to have my legendary gem cutter (immigrated that way) maimed (he still passes out from pain every time he tries to take a drink, some 2 years later) and war dog killed, I decide the game is pretty much done and it's either time to abandon, or time for Fun.

So I assign every last dwarf to a squad and send them out after Ayilo (who is waiting for the jeweler to die so it can devour him? who knows.) I immediately reconsider this, and order the squads to form up at the trade depot first, before going on the attack.  When everybody is in position, I go to order the attack, and Ayilo is not on the kill list. I'm confused. I can't find the monster either. Did it leave? I pull up the (u)nits screen, and it's ... Deceased? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

So I save the game and take a peek at gamelog.txt:

Quote
The Marksdwarf strikes The Hill Titan in the head from behind with his (copper pick), tearing the muscle, shattering the skull and bruising the brain!

And thus was the climactic end of the terrible reign of Ayilo, razer of hovels, destroyer of towns, embodiment of Nature.

Side note 1: This was year 113 (I tend to generate very young worlds, it appears to improve load times considerably) so Ayilo was probably much less powerful than it might have been in a more mature game. Also my adventurer had killed enough dragons, ettins, hydrae, etc. for the game to advance to Age of Legends, so I don't know if that weakens the Titans or what.
Side note 2: I built a coffin for my wardog, but by the time my dweeps got around to emplacing it, my militia commander (the owner) somehow managed to fall five Z levels and break his legs. And before anyone got a chance to bury the pup, the owner died of thirst in the hospital (I think it's time for Dwarf Therapist) - and the dog corpse seems to have lost it's "pet" status; my dweeps won't bury it..
