Guess they had too much dwarven beer and went kaboom.  Alas, poor six dwarves.

That would explain the dwarves but not the animals... they died the same way. Looks like one half-melted yak cow might survive after all; its bleeding has stopped and it's now grazing skinless and fatless outside the entrance. Maybe it'll scare the wicked vapor husks away.

I guess I know where I'm embarking...

EDIT: The best part is, this forest covers the entire map.

YET MORE EDIT: Also, I've yet to find a single map using this param set that actually has humans living in it. Anyone have any ideas?

THERE'S NOT ACTUALLY A LIMIT TO HOW MANY TIMES YOU EDIT: On second thought, the combo Silky Forests/Swamp of Lurching was too good to pass up. Who doesn't love a good terrifying/joyous mix?

NEVER ENOUGH EDITS:

The dwarves of Morningstar, the Last Hope of Nations are obsessed with a forgotten beast named Anu Fateddie the Lurid Waste. Depictions of this monster's rampage have got to represent a good third of the artistic output of the place. Anu Fateddie strikes down Sigun Voicebridged. Anu Fateddie smashes Feb Thundertower's right hand. Anu Fateddie strikes down Sibrek Walktomes. All this happened during the (apparently singular) rampage of Anu Fateddie the Lurid Waste in the year 13. It is now the year 1102, and Anu Fateddie the Lurid Waste is apparently my dwarven culture's equivalent of Godzilla, Mothra, Frankenstein, and The Blob all rolled into one. I expect the dwarven mothers for generations untold have warned their children to mind "or else Anu Fateddie the Lurid Waste will et ya!"

I am just waiting for Anu Fateddie the Lurid Waste to actually show up at the fortress. I'm not sure if my dwarves will fight it or just try to get its autograph.

Fort just got rekt by an almost simultaneous Titan attack and necromancer siege.

I had the titan(emanating an aura of giving and kindness apparently) confined to a small building that was my trade depot before he busted up the depot and all of the nice furniture, and while I was training up some hammerdwarves to kill it, a zombie siege occurred. I decided that maybe the titan could take care of the siege for me, so I let it out of the building, and it killed a couple of zombies before being slaughtered by the horde. I had an expanse of cage traps surrounding my fortress entrance, so I though "what the hell, let's let them in and see if I can catch them all".

I caught maybe 90% of the thirty or so zombies in cage traps throughout my fortress before losing all of my dwarves. Been trying to embark the same spot for awhile, there's just way too much fun around it.

How's the weather been, Stukos?
Needless to say, this is not good.
Could be way worse. It could be thralling clouds or rain that causes blood to pour from every orifice. My last fort had blood rain that caused blistering all over and it was basically harmless.

Fun fact: The third descriptor in a creature's name (ex. dwarven, draconic, mountain-titan, etc.) is the one used to determine the age name.

It's also causing fevers that make my dwarves just kinda sit down and stop doing anything. And we haven't even had our first cloud yet, uh, not looking forward to that.

I was playing a new fort, to try a new attempt at defense.

I had ten dwarves, my first caravan was sitting in the TP, and my defenses were almost ready.  All I needed was FIVE mechanisms to make a lever tied to my two drawbridges, and my fortress would be safe.

And then a wereelk appeared.  Not on the edge of the map.  Not off in the middle of nowhere.

It appeared next to the spot where I was building a mechanics workshop.

I didn't even unpause.  I just retired the fort.  I'll check on them later, to see how they did without me.
