Goblins from "The Torment of Coincidences" conquered some sites and my civ got a new king.
My fort received a small goblin siege, nothing my military couldn't handle.
A butcher became my new baron.

Next year will be a busy one, because I need to make rooms for both the mayor and the baron.

The quadrupedic forgotten beast made of steel was quite durable, but the percussion trap won in the end. Wooden minecarts, filled with gold boulders, dropped on the floor above and cycled around over and over, eventually crushed the upper body. The gabbro door that kept the beast occupied and within the trap was down to XXdoorXX at the end. Of course, the dwarf who was sent to replace the door first wanted to clean blood in the caverns somewhere and soon after tried to spend idle time in the re-activated crushing corridor. Telling him to go fish solved the problem.

Plans to experiment on turning dogs into alcohol have been put on hold. In the meantime, I'm working on a city in the sky by making stone platforms and bridges.
It's been about a year and a half since the embark, and I have 2 houses.

Last year in Bladeanvils, while the dwarven caravan was there, a minotaur showed up. After he murders some of the merchants and guards, one caravan guard fights with and kills him.
Now, in the last migrant wave, I notice an expert hammerdwarf among their ranks. Since I'm starting my military in earnest now, this is a great boon - but I don't think any more of it. Later on I check this dwarf's kills, and lo and behold, it's the same hammerdwarf who slew the minotaur not six months ago, a migrant to the site of her greatest victory! She will be given command of a new squad first thing.

Mine are platinum.

Fikod the Stressed, most unhappy dwarf, has fallen below 80k. It's slow going, but the dining hall is really doing the trick.

Life passes as usual. Masterworks are made, kids grow up, and marksdwarves complain about picking up bolts. Does anyone have a fix for that, by the way?

IIRC the usual fix is to disallow all ammo from the squads having problems for a couple weeks.

The FB's timing suited me; it came right between expeditions to map out the cavern layers. And while exploring the 3rd, I found an open passage up to the 2nd. I've seen those adventuring, even all the way down to a slade floor, but never had an embark with one before. Another connecting 1st and 2nd would've been convenient, but I didn't find it on my tour of the 1st.

And now that I've laid out traps, I'm sure they'll get jammed with useless crap like crundles and flesh balls instead of the jabberer I saw crawling through. Found his skeleton, though.

Is "Drunk" now a legit profession? :D

EDIT:
It seems to be exclusive to goblins for some reason... what about humans and elves? (dwarves are always drunk anyway)

I've seen human drunks in the cities. For dwarves it can't be a profession, it's a way of life. The only way.

My single legendary swordsman, Kadol, with his roc leather cloak studded with sapphires and blue garnets, has cut down two forgotten beasts, one a flying bat with scales and a thirst for warm blood, and one a copper iguana with flaming breath. His steel scimitar, the Edge of Damnations, cut through them both effortlessly. On his way home, however, he got into a strange mood. Sadly, he was possessed.  Since he was a talented armoursmith before his recruitment for his massive strength and agility, he claimed the forge. He made a helmet out of steel, with himself striking down a roc on it. Man, this guy is a huge narcisist. His engravings are 50% himself. He made a helmet with an image of him on it. He sits around in his room often, for no apparent reason, despite not being on break and with it saying he's doing an engraving job. Maybe I should get him a hammerlord buddy.

My most recent fort was supposed to be a "no-pick challenge": Embark without a single pick and try to scrape by like a wretched surface-dweller. The selected location was the desert of Tuskglazed, a barren wilderness with nothing but a measly amount of saguaros here and there:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I brought a pile of bituminous coal to jumpstart my glass industry, and also a few flux stones in the hope of starting a goblinite-based steel industry at some point (and no-one in their right mind would ever embark on a desert without lots and lots of sandbags):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The plan was to acquire more fuel from the caravan, but the wagon bypassed my site for no reason, and the straggling merchants simply dumped their stuff into the depot and stayed moping around nearby (obstructing the construction of a wall >:().
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The following year's caravan also failed to arrive and there have been no migrant waves after the first few hard-coded ones. And now that I've completely run out of anything to feed my furnaces with, the only remaining option is to confiscate that tempting bismuth bronze pick on the depot floor...

The elven diplomat arrived almost the same time as the goblins(spawned on the roof).
While the soldiers were killing gobbos and trolls, the elf was talking about trees...

"You have disrespected the trees in this a..."
"Fine fine, I know, mister elf. Maybe you should talk to the goblins first, they are now here."

The battle was over. I lost two civvies and a llama.
Edit*
Oh, more corpses were found, a dwarven baby and a pet.

While they were burying the dead, a thresher and a clothier married. But they decided to forego any formal celebrations.
