An eagle just flew into my fort and ripped the hand off one of my founding imps, causing him to bleed to death instantly. It isn't even winter yet.

Kinda appropriate really that birds of prey are your biggest threat right now.

It was a modded eagle from Dwarf Chocolate that yielded the same amount of meat as a giant sparrow. Also, I now have cage traps in my entrance, so those golden eagles can suck it now.

There's also a group of Gray Langur men on the map now. They behave the exact same way their predecessors did, except now I just shoot them with marksdwarves.
Seems likes these Gray Langurs are the single biggest threat to my fortress atm.

EDIT: Giant Gray Langurs are a threat to my military, apparently, having killed a macedwarf and an archer. Total deaths are at 7, all of them caused by Giant Gray fucking Langurs. However, I've captured some of the buggers, and am in the process of training them. After a trivial bit of modding they can redeem themselves defending the fortress or be dumped into the volcano.
Also is it sad that in year 2 I'm far closer to having a functional magma cannon than a competent militia, or does a magma cannon's mere existance make me a better player?

I'd say a magma cannon is never a bad thing, and in year two it's pretty damn impressive. You're going to be begging for a better militia, though, if the cannon doesn't solve the problem 100%

how big is the 10k year file, just out of curiosity? I have a 1500 year world with 150mb space. How bad is the lag?

Cheers

virginal world backup is 66mb in size. Used large region, with slightly altered worldgen parameters for X and Y elevation variance, and max number of subregions.
Lag is difficult to place; laptop is an i5.

will try for picture of the uber fun happy site.

Here we go.
Spoiler: Superfun Happy Site (click to show/hide)

Freezing glacier in range of 6 necromancer towers.
Again, not sure I want to embark there....

Can you upload your world backup?

In my fortress dwarves are dying from old age.
Dwarven wine is a little bit like good chicken soup:  solid at room temperature.

In the middle of the tundra is a great big pit,
And its filled with dwarves who are filled with shit,
And the vermin of the world inhabit it,
And they call it MoistenedCloaks !

Just found my fort's hunter, Bomrek F, dead at the dinner table, drained of all blood.  I don't know if his skill level ever got very high (we've only killed one elf caravan, so we must be in year 2 now) but he was loved and respected by the entire fort.  Not only for bringing us delicious meat, but also for acting as a one-man volunteer militia.  He discovered and killed multiple trespassing kobolds, and in one epic battle took it upon himself to shoot down a whole flock of thieving buzzards.  I was going to found a marksdwarf squad and make him its captain, but sadly, he now lies in rest in our underground memorial grotto.

In other news, this is the first time I've ever had a vampire come to the dining hall for a meal like civilized dwarfs.

Which variety of wounds are they?
Scars probably won't cause any trouble, but bruises might.
Either way, it's probably not a bad thing.
