the legendary clothier's pet ewe is going to occupy it once she passes over to the happy grazing grounds.

That's not very dwarfy. You should install the corpse of your most awesome dwarf there when he/she dies.

Dear diary,

If high treason is what we have done, then let us walk as lions among sheep.

Let the endless waves of a nation consumed by greed wash up to our walls. Let them come with shining sword and longllance. If we are to be traitors, then let us be traitors forever immortalized. Dwarves will speak for centuries to come of the handful of traitors who held grand armies at bay.

They say that we are the enemy of the people, that it is we who have blood on our hands. Tell me then, who is it that has spent the last century taxing their people out of house and home? Who is it that employs the corrupt and greedy? Who is it that sits on a golden throne while their people toil in their own filth? We are the revolutionaries, we are the righteous, we are the lions among sheep.

And I would rather live a day as a lion than a lifetime as a sheep.

‼FUN‼

My fortress was visited by a pack of wild mountain wyverns, and suffered the ‼consequences‼ of having a readily accessible front lawn of nice, lush grass.

A 39-year-old mother of two died in the blaze.

I just lost a fortress to a pathing bug. I dig into some blue stuff and a hole opened up into bad stuff. My miner was also a mason so I tried to have him seal it up. And of course he ends up comstructing the wall while standing on it. He would have had jist enough time to finish it if he had not been standing there. Lame...

Aren't coffins broken for pets? I mean sure you can allow pets, but your dwarves will never put the corpses in or something.

FB wandered up the stairwell I thought was sealed, my elite Spearmen killed it, but lost 7 out of 10 of them. Damn, just nicknamed them all and started to get attached to them. :-\

RIP Orcspike, Bluefoot, Orcblade, Firebeard, Ironbeard, Strongsword and my personal favorite, Hammeroath.

Whenever i read the "doesn't care about anything anymore" line, i instantly imagine a dwarf, sitting alone on a swing set. Just slowly rocking back and forth, somberly staring at the ground, and stopping every once in a while to sigh.
It's mildly depressing.

The bug is that the game doesn't check the "is pet/assigned working animal of dwarf <xxx>" but rather the "is allowed for adoption" flag when testing whether a dead tame animal should be buried. If you allow your stray cavies for adoption, they'll get buried, and whether anyone adopts them or not doesn't matter. Similarly, you can make war dogs bury-able by allowing them for adoption before training.

There's nothing you can do about cats, though; just keep the population in check and keep those not needed for vermin-control in cages. And hide or destroy the corpses of cats that got attached to dwarfs.

Things have calmed down considerably.  We have successfully traded with the humans.  We have lots of new cloth for more clothes, our most common export (I'll be damned if I am trading one single copper-worth of our precious metal), and I discovered that we have approximately 1,000 bars of iron.  I shut down the steel industry a while ago following a shortage of iron bars and coke.  Time to restart the smelters.

I finally noticed that one of my bastion towers in front of the entrance is misaligned with the entrance ramp.  I am annoyed--this is going to drive me nuts.  Now that I see it, I can't unsee it, and there is too much work to disassemble and reassemble the entire tower.

I think it is time to prepare for the coming of the king.  I forsee a vast multi-level throne room, with magma rivers and bridges, and gold stockpiles around the edges.  I want a gold hoard the likes that would make Smaug say "Oh, well that REALLY IS somewhat ostentatious."

Time, as well, to set up a other marksdwarf squad.  I have a series of pastures set up under the gaze of fortified towers.  My goal is to be able to bring my population into the fortress in the event of an attack.  The attackers will then take our their aggression on my pastured animals, and be shot to pieces by the cross-bow squads.

I also have a small tunnel leading under the nearby stream.  I noticed that attackers will typically cross the river by the small bridge.  I am hoping that if I demolish the bridge, and fill the tunnel with traps, I can secure my western flank from serious attack.

Also, time to make soap!

The great Dwarfen Philosopher Urist McConfused said it best:  "Light a kitten on fire and it will run screaming into the booze stockpile and catch the whole fort up.  I know, we tested it in twelve different forts and it always happened."

Okay, one of my dwarves got a posessed mood for weaponsmith, the catch is that according to DFhack, he wants gold, the second catch is that he is one of my legendary axedwarves.

*sigh* Normally I'd lock the door and let that mood cancel out, but it's one of my military dwarves.

Hopefully he produces something marginally useful like a hammer, but if his preferences are going to dictate what weapon, I'm gonna end up with a gold spear. At least I can stick it into a spear/spike thing for decoration.

And just as I, in my immense widsom, had predicted, a golden spear! Okay not really immense widsom, just knowledge of how moods work.

How much is that spear worth? It may suck, but it's gold.

A trap with that spear in it would make your dining room Legendary. Especially if the mechanism is an artifact, and you've acquired any other useless artifact weapons (ie: blowguns).

You could use the gold spear for a super-fancy danger room. I don't know if military dwarfs take note of the quality of the spear that's used to poke them, so the value may be wasted. However, it should be really good at hitting and really bad at doing damage. Might help training armour user and dodger.

Chamberivy finished year eleven. The project's slowly becoming recognisable, we should be ready for full operation in this year. A child got a mood, and produced a cat bone pick. I was a cheap bastard and confiscated two of the three bone stacks that were claimed for the artefact, the secluded fort's still painfully low on bones and slaughterable animals. The pick is decorated with platinum and emeralds. 8)

Nah, I don't want to take the chance of accidentially impaling one of my military dwarves.

I already have a danger room anyway.
