I don't mean to brag, but *ahem* yours truly was the one who solved that reaction bug that had been plagueing modders for a long time.

The trick is, having a burrow that covers the workshop and not the materials will cause the reaction to become available, even if the burrow is not active. To fix it, move the materials inside the burrow, or delete it. You can also add the job to the manager, where it will be added to the appropriate workshop. It will then be completed.

Should I attempt a family lineage of my fort? There are some second generation dwarves around, my Count is fort born himself, though the rest of his family is dead.

I know there aren't any third generation dwarves even though it's been what, 70 years since founding because I don't let them mingle enough to get married. The only marriage I had was DECADES ago and that was just my two miners out of the founding seven.

Anyways, it's been a couple of years since the demon diplomat came and since then, the diplomat has been human. I thought the diplomat would be the same each time? I guess the demon just wanted to give it's seal of approval first.

Also, my count had a strange mood and made a black cap bed, not bad. He's a legendary carpenter now.

Hm, yeah, I removed the walls around the edge of the second cavern layer and put floors all around it where I could, even over water, in the hopes that more things will spawn there. However, it's looking like the second cavern is definetly completely dead except for the occasional pond grabber.

Meanwhile, crundles, crundles, and more crundles, lol. Theres so many of them I decided to use DFhack to halve the regional population to give other stuff a chance to spawn.

You can also make a burrow that covers the whole embark site.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Blamelesscloister, Spring 92, 32nd year of the fort

An eventful year. Both elven and human caravan failed to show up, because the goblin charity drive was busy unloading their second-hand clothes into our traps. The big event was the spring siege, which brought us Renane Nemamefife or something like that, the gila monster master of the goblin clans. It had some special effect, but it wasn't blood or extract, so i trusted the minecart grinder to deal with it. And deal with it the minecart grinder did.

The summer siege was all annoying with zero entertainment. Because it was unexpected, trolls got into the works and smashed up the grinder, and repairing it took so long that the siege just left, except for the poor idiots who had their masters caught in cages, who needed some encouragement from our capable military. Unfortunately, those saps left all their teeth and clothes as a gift, as well.

I eventually threw in the towel and disabled invaders for now, so i can collect and export all the garbage. I had intended to try my hand at a freezer trap (quite practical on a glacier with adjacent aquifer-bearing taiga), but that wasn't going to happen when each season added five months' worth of non-stop hauling. The captured goblins were chained up, as per usual (the second 40-gobbo cell block is almost full now), all other captured invaders were dumped into the caverns. One of the local forgotten beasts decided to camp the drop site and turned all the trolls into ‼trolls‼. While amusing, this wasn't the intended effect. No citizens died this year and i've totally lost count of dead invaders. Each siege had more invaders than we have adults (42).

@Lanie

Not bad for an early fort. I do see one MAJOR, MAJOR problem though, wagons will not be able to access your depot. The entrance has to be three tiles wide for the wagons to get to it, and traps make it inaccessable to them.

However, there IS a way to make a safe (against non-fliers) wagon entrance though and is pretty easy to set up once you know how it works.

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Wagon

Go down a bit to wagon only entrance. I'd remove the walls to the side of the ramps on z=0 though as they aren't neccesary and might actually give goblins access.

So, I started to notice tame Bone Golems popping out from nowhere for awhile now. I just discovered why. Somehow, I cannot even fathom the horrifying details, this happened.

I'm so very baffled and confused. Was she born a Lich? Is this in any way connected by the premature death of his father, a boring Jeweler cut down by goblins? Is this a bug, or possibly something really awesome?
I'm not even in an evil biome.

Looks like Masterwork mod.

Nothing to do with biomes or her dead father; in Masterwork you can train dwarves to become mages or priests. Some dwarves can already be born with those powers though, which is probably what happened.

While constructing my walls I encountered some kind of bug with a rock. 1 single piece of limestone was sitting on a spot where I wanted a wall, and for some reason my dwarves would not touch it and even DFhack could not remove it. I tried unforbidding it, autodumping it, creating magma on it and burning it away... The only thing that worked was building a south opening bridge under it and flinging the bastard off my map. I am surprised they even constructed the bridge with the thing in the way, though.

EDIT: Success!

Hamlet Shieldfuture, Summer 508; 44 beards

The mist generator has been activated! To celebrate this achievement, one of the Balancerocks boys organized a party at Alronzokun, the artifact statue made by Zon Craftsdangles.

This is my first mist generator ever, and I have to say it's working quite well. :D I have a dwarven water reactor to thank for the power used to drive the generator!

I noticed my new king was not on the noble list any more. Curious, I go look at his room (he was a vampire so I had him locked up) and there in his place was a forgotten beast. I have no idea how the hell it managed to get in; the room is completely secured. The beast can't even leave it seems, but yet it managed to get in which is irritating.

EDIT: Oh my god no... There was ONE tile in the ceiling that was open. That's how it got in... D:

Apparently the elves are ticked off at me; they ambushed this year, most likely in retaliation for their diplomat (modded back in) walking into a wicked mist cloud of his own accord. Still, more test subjects for the platinum-minecart particle smasher, I suppose...

Around 60 dwarfs now, I made a large moat around my aboveground section with a bridge where my dwarfs idled while my many miners mined out a vast fortress deep beneath the earth.

Some migrants arrived and I assigned one as a bookkeeper. They idled near the border of the map.

Suddenly, a mysterious monster appears and hits my bookkeeper causing him to flee in terror while it continued to chase it. I immediately ordered my dwarfs indoors by means of an meeting area. I also ordered the bridge that was not yet hooked up to mechanics to be walled off.

My other immigrants at the border managed to get over the bridge before it got walled off. A mysterious message appeared just before that happened. The beast has transformed into a human. I did not see a trace of him.

Did he manage to sneak inside before I walled off the bridge? I do not know. My fortress is vast, and deep. I cannot find it. They cannot get out. Death is coming...

BWAHAHAHAHA.

Take THAT Lerdi.  You green glassed FB annoyance that just would NOT DIE.

The FB trap, at least the obsidianizer, now functions properly.  Time to start cleaning out the cavern.
